Last night, I had a date whom I matched with on Tinder 2 weeks ago.
I called her on Sunday night to get it going after we failed to meet last week. She was receptive then, our conversation somewhat flirty.
I got her to meet at the tram stop on the main road my street leads onto. Running a bit as usual, I found her at a bench where I clapped my hands on her shoulders from behind. Our greeting was enthused; clearly, we both found each other more attractive than our photos. She's 29 but looked younger, a fair bit shorter than me, with features that implied Scottish heritage. Kind of hippie-ish — she wore her hair in dreads and those saroual pants. I'd rate her a high 7 — she may well be an 8 when naked.
She was reading her phone (düh) and told me about her friend's upcoming trip to Mongolia. I asked her what she was doing not smuggling herself in their bags. That set the tone for a really playful banter as we walked to a park near mine.
Along the way, while talking about where we headed to, I uttered, "Promise me you won't take advantage of the fact that we're going to be alone and abduct and murder me."
"Promise me you won't, either," She turned to me and replied.
"Pinky swear?" I smiled. We shook pinkies.
She asked me about work. I made sure to go over that cursorily. She remarked on the eeriness of the park as we walked along its outskirts, and how different it looked during the day. I said something about how it's close to her natural habitat (She's a wildlife firefighter). When she brought up how she was hungry, I was glad there weren't any eateries within the area....apart from my place.
At the park, we let loose through the playground with, well, childish abandon.

It was expansive and wooden. She darted ahead of me when we were making our way through the ropes course, then we stood on a swing that had a massive seat. I grabbed her midriff and pretended to toss her (her belly was flat — that put to rest any fears of her being a SIF). We fell off, laughing.
I told her, "I'm guessing you've got a navel piercing?"
"How'd you know that?" She exclaimed.
"Oh the swing told me." (I should've said, we'll find out soon)
She was feeling hungry and thirsty, and thought we should head to the 7-Eleven. Since she'd asked if I had weed on the swing, I suggested bouncing back to mine; because have a wild guess where I'd left it?!
On the way back, we joked a bit about her cooking. Then she brought up how she had an interview the next day, and asked me to throw her a few questions. I used that chance to ask her cold-read questions, to which she lightheartedly scolded me for not taking her seriously. Upon asking, she told me her interview was at 1pm.
Enough time for us to fuck, I thought.
"Enough time for you to get there," I told her.
"How's Tinder been going for you?" She asked me a few minutes later.
I drew out my answer to tease her. Told her what did she think, with someone as attractive as I was.
'"It's pretty addictive, isn't it," I added.
"I know, right!" She agreed.
"All those people out there waiting for you."
"Yeah, it's almost like...a game."
"It's kind of like Pokémon with real people," I declared.
"You know, I've never even played Pokémon," she confessed.
"What! You haven't lived," I mocked.
"Don't say that," she pouted.
"I know...because at the end of the night, I'll look you in the eyes and tell you you're the most fascinating person that I've ever met."
"Which is what you say to every girl you meet on Tinder," she accused.
"Of course, but in your case, I'll mean it."
Upon reaching my house, she'd reacted in amazement at the interior, which only increased upon getting to the kitchen (which is pretty uniquely furnished, I'll admit). We hung there for a couple of minutes before I suggested the backyard. I drew a bottle of wine and glasses along the way.
She continued to be struck by the house, a feeling that I was sure was genuine. This awed reaction of hers had been, and was going to be a running theme of the night. My suburb is full of Victorian-era terrace houses characteristic of this part of my city, many of which are heritage-listed. Still, her impressionability was more than that of others I have over, and I commented to her later on that she looked like a kid in a lolly shop, it was that adorable.
I've got a set of steps set into our backyard wall which we ascended and perched ourselves on top.
I don't recall what we rambled about, but she was going on about the picturesque appearance of my neighbourhood. I fed her ideas to egg her on as I listened. Somehow the topic turned to art, whereby I suggested heading upstairs to check out my paintings. She more than willingly complied, OK.
I held out my hand, which she took, as we headed back inside. I'd been pretty good at keeping up kino.
We were in my bedroom, studying my painting, and I complimented her on interpreting it the way I had envisioned it when I was working on it. At the same, I motioned to my bed, sitting down, which she followed. I rambled on what forms of creativity did she have going for her, which I used to segue into a kiss...
...which she prompted backed away from, with a semi-jocular reaction along the lines of "Whoa, easy there tiger." (I don't recall what she said verbatim.)
She'd said, either then or earlier, that she wanted to take it easy after having left a 7 year relationship, and that she'd maybe kiss on the second date.
The topic was soon changed to my guitar, which she asked to have a go at. She was shit at it, predictably, so I guided her on strumming, chords, and scales, progressing through to a blues lick; it became a full-blown 20ish minute lesson. It was a good way to escalate kino.
She teased me once or twice about me getting blue-balled, which I agreed and amplified. I hoped I wasn't coming across as too thirsty.
By then, she felt like smoking my weed, so we walked to the 7-Eleven and bought tobacco, papers, a meat pie and sausage roll. Back home, I grabbed cheese and white wine before we sat on the wall again.
Our conversation jumped a bit of everywhere and I think we held our attention mutually. She did check her mobile periodically, which I called her out for. She seemed sorry and said that it was her brother or his boyfriend each time round, messaging . That and the fact that she cut me off while talking a few times at that point made me decide against LTR-ing her up.
I took the chance to establish comfort over a number of topics, which I emphasised by high-fiving her a couple of times. This was accentuated by us feeding each other cheese and pie.
We carried on the conversation in my kitchen. I let slip that I speak Spanish, which she told me she wanted to learn when we were on the wall.
I tried to go for another kiss, which she pulled away from once again. Nevertheless she was still expressing her enjoyment of the night, which again I had no reason to doubt - I mean she got a free guitar lesson out of me.
I walked her around the corner from my house and we hugged goodbye. The whole date took just over 2 hours.
TL;DR — I can't help but wonder what was wrong with my game; was I lacking in verbal escalation? Do some girls absolutely not put out regardless of how airtight your game is?
I know I've been doing my best to push each interaction as far as I can, i.e. aim for the first date bang. But I think some of that impetus to strike while the iron is hot stems from a lack of confidence in my dating game, in that she might lose interest after the first date.
