That is the next frontier for everyman.
You have to be super smooth.
Why didn't POF beat out OKCupid in NYC?
Maybe it's because they have dip-shits like Markus working for them.
Maybe it's because they have a name inspired by the saying "there's plenty of fish in the sea" - this is the what you tell someone to comfort them when they get rejected. The burn of rejection is important.
OKCupid just sounds like some Japanese tourists idea of what American dating is.
A word of advice to anyone who is starting up a dating website.. don't use the word "fish" in the title. There are too many insinuations.
You might as well call your site "Plenty of Vaginosis", "Plenty of Yeast" or "Very Little Douching"

RE: Plenty of Fish New Policy: No More Dating Younger Women
As an older guy, this totally pisses me off, so Markus will be happy about that, I guess. His site is shit, but it's the most popular by far in the tiny place where I live (OKC has two members in my vicinity!).
In the last few months I've had several interesting online exchanges with 20-somethings, and a pleasant meet up with a 31 year old (I'm late 40s). She wanted to meet me again, but I decided not to take it any further. Now that sort of scenario cannot arise again via POF.
I saw a profile yesterday that seemed to match me very well, but she's 15 years younger, so I can't message her. I added her to my Favourites, hoping to draw her attention, and she viewed my profile, but SHE can't write to ME either! It's fucked up. Treat adults like adults, Markus, you stupid cunt.
As someone said, it's already possible to fix tight age limits and many other limits on who can message you. If chicks are too dumb to work that out, they deserve all they get. Guys will just lie about their age, as I will from now on. Unfortunately it means creating a new account because you can't change your age after a few days. Well done, Markus, you just succeeded in increasing the amount of lying that goes on in online dating, as if there wasn't enough already!
Rant over.

I don't use the site but have a profile, luckily I did not list my real age but listed myself as being six years younger.

RE: Plenty of Fish New Policy: No More Dating Younger Women
Markus and POF is probably the best example of dumb luck being more important than anything else in business (and in life, really).
I read an article about the guy a few years ago where he talked about how he started POF as basically an experiment to help him learn to code. He never did any advertising and somehow the site managed to blow up over the next few years. The site itself has always been a complete piece of shit from a design an functionality perspective, but it's never mattered. It's basically like that dive college bar that everyone goes to for some reason, so the owner/management feels no need to upgrade. As far as I know the guy still has under 10 employees and has no plans to expand the business or start another site because he'd rather play computer games and RISK all day. It's like he knows POF was dumb luck that he couldn't hope to replicate because he has no special business or tech acumen. He was just in the right place at the right time and smashed the ball out of the park on his first at-bat.
Now he says the site basically runs itself and he puts in about an hour of work a day, while cashing checks upwards of $1 million per month.
All that, and he still feels the need to cockblock dudes with this ridiculous rule.
That's some seriously deep rooted beta/white knight tendencies. What a chode. Will give him credit on his hustle, though, even if POF's massive success was mostly luck he still took the initiative to get it started.

Damn. Not too bad.
What made it become so popular?
Why do people even use it?

RE: Plenty of Fish New Policy: No More Dating Younger Women
Thinking about this a bit more, if women hate the idea of older men chasing younger women, the best way women can combat this is to try to lower the average age of marriage. It will: 1) Take a larger number of younger females off the market and 2) Take more older men off the market.
As long as the age of first marriage keeps inching up, it means more people are in the market for much longer. And men that get older don't start magically becoming attracted to 35 year old women. They are still going to be optimally attracted to women in their 20s. So you end up with intense competition for them as men in the 20, 30s, 40s, 50s that are single are all fighting for that same demographic of 18-30 year old women. If these guys had all settled down by their mid-20s(like my dad did), everyone would pretty much be paired with someone close to their own age.
I don't think it's men pushing back the marriage age, even though some savvy men are obviously benefiting from it by having a few decades of casual sex. Women's entrance into the workforce and educational demands have made early marriage a thing of the past for the most part. And the inevitable outcome is by the time they are ready to settle down, they are past their physical prime and men don't value her education and career attainment as much as they value her youth and beauty. It must suck when these women come to the realization that 25-year-old unaccomplished hottie is seen as more marriageable than a 42-year-old never-married attorney. It's women who are driving this change by their shift in priorities from marriage and family to career and independence. Marry early and men chasing younger women becomes a non-issue.

Probably getting between double and triple response rate from under 25.
I have dates tuesday through saturday this week, and I am supposed to have a 3 some with (2) 19 year olds over the weekend. It's never been like this for me before.
Additionally, yeah what he is doing is gay, but it's his website, he can do whatever the fuck he wants. It's clearly a bad business move, kind of like new coke. Let's see if it lasts.
