What do you guys think of the new Hannibal series?
Mads Mikkelsen is representing the perfect Dark Triad Alpha.
It's amazing what can be learned by the observation of his mannerisms.

The actor who plays hannibal is great but when he is not on screen I have trouble paying attention to the show.

I'm not a huge fan of any of the other actors besides Hannibal on the show, but I will say that changing Freddie Lounds to Frederika was a solid move.

One thing I hope they don't do is drag the show out to 4-5 seasons for commercial reasons, and instead have the shit hit the fan on the Chesapeake Ripper case inside of one or two seasons at the most. I can't wait for Hannibal to run a train on pretty much everybody in the show.
The final episode should have him, interred in the mental institution some years later, with the "Good evening, Clarice" (or even misquoted as "Hello Clarice", that would be hilarious) and the whole thing fading to black. Then they could resurrect the show four or five years later into "The Silence of the Lambs".

I don't consider Hannibal to be a "Dark Triad Alpha" worth much consideration from a game perspective but it is interesting to see how composed he is and how close he is to the investigation team that is pursuing him. I bet he gets a big ol' stiffy for misleading the main characters in their case and seeing them psychologically break down at the horrors they witness and the body count racking up.

I also think it's terribly unrealistic to believe that Hannibal would be beneath the suspicion of the investigative crew, anybody who is that helpful in trying to catch a serial killer is probably the guy murdering everybody and just keeping tabs on how to stay one step ahead. This sort of thing has been heavily documented.

Actually I noticed he's full of "microalphatudes". The way he moves, the way he speaks, eye contact... He seems dominant and superior in every move. Pretty amazing.

^this is the valuable part for game purposes.

What can we learn from Mads in terms of how to talk to people, in how we move our bodies, in our facial muscle movements....

Of course, we've also got to pay attention to how Hannibal is able to push people's buttons with the questions he asks, how he asks them, how he supplies them with answers...how they slowly start to think the way he wants them to think.

Game on a very high level.

Mads Mikklesen is the shit. I was skeptical at first because Anthony Hopkins brought that character to life. But I must say I'm truly impressed with his portrayal. He makes Hannibal more of an imposing dark figure.

OK, I have to disassociate Mads Mikkelson from Hannibal because I read the book and am a huge fan of the whole series and movie trilogy, etc. Hannibal the TV and book character is a serial killer who pulls no ass, which is why from a game perspective I say that what he says and does is not in itself that valuable.

Mads Mikkelson (the actor) interacts with people on the show very directly and always has composure, which is great from a game perspective. I think it's also cool that he (as a character) projects enormous value to other highly skilled people on the show without bragging or alluding to his skills much more than in passing; his colleagues hold him in utmost esteem and his office and home are practically temples of cultured and well-rounded intellectualism. That's a good way to convey tons of value.
It's also interesting that nobody on the show knows much about him, in the last episode the woman Hannibal was chatting with about Graham (while they prepared dinner) was surprised to learn that he home-brewed excellent beer. That's the kind of mysterious aura that high level players no doubt cultivate, that they've acquainted themselves with many things and have mastered a lot of it so they can elicit value from themselves seemingly from nowhere.

I understand your point. Pulling no ass is the ultimate beta trait. Although, I think, based on all this microalphatudes, incredible intellectualism, good knowledge of the human mind, he could pull a lot of ass, really easilly, if he wanted to. But what a man admire and what is attractive for a woman have a world of difference, thus the great discussion about what defines an alpha. For a man, an alpha is what he aspire to be (intellectual, composed, superior, absolute control over his body language, being able to dominate a room, inspiring terror and admiration by eye contact alone), but the general definition of alpha is the guy who fucks chicks, be him Hannibal Lecter or Lil' Wayne.
Alpha or not, the point is to learn what to do with what is best on him and what not to do with what is worst on him.

The show is fucking amazing Ive been sleeping on it but running through the first season this weekend.
Creates an amazing atmosphere and Mikkelson does a great job at playing Hannibal. Morpheus has gotten quite fat though ^^

He certainly did, even though he wasn't the first actor to protray Lecter.

It's certainly not uncommon for serial killers to have no sex drive, or in the case of sadosexual serial killers as I believe Lecter to be, to get their sexual gratification through torture and murder.

It was Red Dragon where Will Graham (Edward Norton) took Lecter down which led to his being held in the psychiatric hospital so really the show should end there. I think the only way for that to happen though is for Graham to have complete amnesia from his illness. Looking forward to the second season though...

I'm going to have to buy the books now.

Another great show that I've followed all season. Hannibal is a master manipulator, I can't wait to see where they take this in season 2.

I write this as someone who had read the book "Red Dragon," and considers Lecter one of the best villains of all time. [SPOILERS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE]

I gave it a shot, since it is now available on amazon prime. I don't like how they made Will a whiny psycho emo twat. That really bugged me. But I hung on, because if anyone besides Hopkins can pull off Lecter, it's my man Mads.

Some things were acceptable to me, but some things simply don't fit with the canon. We know the future, but the writers do wacky shit that would lead to some star-trekian alternate universe.

I tried to just sit back and enjoy the show for what it was. I did like how they worked in the pig farmer. Also, some of the crimes that were investigated were downright disturbing. The mushroom garden springs to mind.

Then there's the whole love interest malarky. We know the Will is married to a woman named Molly, and has a son named Josh. And that he had many collaborations with Lecter prior to catching him. But we get some awkward crap with Bloom and a ONS with the pig farmer's sister.

Oh, and Crawford is black for no reason, and Lounds is an attractive woman instead of the sleazy scumbag portrayed by P.S. Hoffman.

Then there's the fact that they killed off Chilton, who is obviously alive at the time of Red Dragon, and even later in Silence of the Lambs.

And then season 2 just frigging ends. Someone at the beginning of the thread said they hoped the show wouldn't be dragged out for commercial reasons, but that's exactly what we're getting.

Too bad. Could have been a lot better.

Just finished season one. I haven't seen a psychological thriller quite this good on TV before.

Mads Mikkelsen is terrific as Hannibal. Unflappable and inscrutable, he plays the perfect psychopathic cannibal. I actually prefer him to the Hannibal played by Anthony Hopkins.

The cooking/eating scenes are chilling. I was curious if we were to understand that Hannibal is cooking human flesh and then I read this interview with the creator of the show, Bryan Fuller.

Bryan Fuller: (laughs) I think if there is some kind of meat product on the table, whether it be a broth or an organ of some kind, that that is very likely a human being. But when, for instance, he served Dr. Sutcliffe, and it was very clearly a pig leg, I think that was somebody from the Island of Dr. Moreau. No, not literally. In those cases — when it's visually a piece of chicken bone or something like it that is visually indicative of an animal — then it's the animal. Everything else is people.

So that's what he's been feeding everyone in his FBI circle, as well as his patients.

My only complaint about the show is that they continually use the term "psychiatrist" to mean "psychotherapist." At some point in the show a girl in a hospital sees Dr. Alana Bloom and asks if she's a doctor, and she says yes, but not a medical doctor; a psychiatrist. Everyone on this show that deals with therapy is referred to as a "psychiatrist" when in the real world psychiatrists rarely deal with therapy.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor, they go to medical school and receive MDs. They tend to deal mostly with prescriptions for mental illness. For such a well-made show that deals with mental issues, this is a glaring error.

Overall a fantastic show, probably will start season 2 later next week.

Not always true. Good psychiatrists that can charge enough privately to support their practice will do half hour or hour long therapy sessions in combination with prescriptions.

However, many cannot, and a lot of psychiatrists support their practice by doing "med checks" that last 5-10 minutes, involve no therapy, and just consist of asking some questions on a checklist about how you've been sleeping/eating/etc and adjusting dosages and medications on a whim. It's basically malpractice and is shameful.

I know this because a few years back before I got my shit together I went to both a cheap local psychiatrist who did med checks for 50 bucks, and a much better one in a large city that charged 300/hour and did therapy in combination with medication.


Anyhow, season 3 is fucking awesome first episode. I can't believe he literally eats a guy limb by limb over an extended period of time.
