I'm very tempted to get one if I can get a good one for around $1k. The problem is I have no idea what a good one is.

RE: Sick electric bike tech (new hobby?)
Good luck with that project. One of my dad's old employees spent the last 3 years on and off trying to build one of those.

You're probably better at building shit than he is, though. For all his tinkering and shit, he might as well have worked more and bought one.

After some googling, it looks like most commercial electric bikes go no faster than 20 mph or you need a license for it.

I'd be interested to see how the bike goes.

“I have a very simple rule when it comes to management: hire the best people from your competitors, pay them more than they were earning, and give them bonuses and incentives based on their performance. That’s how you build a first-class operation.”

RE: Sick electric bike tech (new hobby?)
A DUI on a bicycle is very very rare. You need to be doing a lot of things wrong at once for that to happen and you'd have to blow in the breathalyzer. If a cop pulled me over on a bike why the fuck would I ever humor him with letting him give me a sobriety test? IF he can even catch me going 50 mph on trails cops can't drive on. I don't stop for them unless I'm in my car.

Worst case he can take you to jail and you didn't blow. What case do they have? Saw dude on bike thought he may of had some drinks. That WILL NOT hold up in court. People that get BUI's are dudes who ride a bike because they lost their drivers licence and they are so drunk on them in an obvious way.

How do I know this?

I mentioned here before but many of you may have missed my sick little game me and my friends play.

I'm a member of the "Fantasy crime league" which is you have a team like fantasy football except we draft local clowns and gamble on them getting arrested. You can draft anyone you see on mugshots that has history of getting busted a lot. When one of your guys gets popped you get paid from a pool of cash.

So, I read mugshots and click every single person in the three counties here..Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough. Every day for 5 years I read every arrest so I know what they will and will not arrest you for. BUI? Maybe one in 5 years in a state with shitloads of homeless lurking around on bikes.

Progress, I found two Porsche mountain bikes that need work at my buddys bike store and I put offers on them. I might buy both of them.

Reasons: when it's time to sell it my ad would read 50+ mph Porsche bicycle and it has magura hydraulic brakes and a sturdy frame/fork.
They look exactly like this..

Is there enough space in that Porsche frame to mount a larger motor the way the top bar slopes down like that? Maybe you're not that far along in the process yet but just jumped out at me.

These are dope:

That's fucking sick. I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Though it would be wasted in L.A. I give it 6 months before all the legislature comes out; helmets, DUIs, permits, moving violations, parking violations...

Between these and Segways, I'm convinced that humans are going to devolve their legs within a few decades. How hard is it to pedal/walk?

Does look kind of fun though.

One thing these faster bikes have in common is they use pretty much the same power that can be found used cheap. I've found those hubs for 100 bucks. You don't need to spend a shit ton to get this done.

- What is the lowest price range that this could be done in? (asking the DIY/ Mechano experts)
- Would this be able to carry a Surfboard somehow? Some way?

I can buy em in china for US$300. Y'all are paying ridiculous prices. I bought a used one for about $70.

I was thinking about importing them stateside, but I have 0 clue where to start.

Where did you get it for 70$ and which brand model? Share the info!

RE: Sick electric bike tech (new hobby?)
Sorry I should mention i bought it used while in China. I jjust started asking around at the end of the semester among teachers I knew who were leaving. Finally someone said, "Here. Take it. It's yours." It wasn't that great, maxed out at 50kmh. I'll try and find out the info if you're still interested, I just resold it to a guy for the same price since I'm leaving at the end of the week.

I've ridden a few here in China and I have to say I had trouble balancing on the smaller ones when I really got going.
