Teen retailer Abercrombie & Fitch doesn't stock XL or XXL sizes in women's clothing because they don't want overweight or unattractive women wearing their brand.

They want the "cool kids," and they don't consider plus-sized women as being a part of that group.

Abercrombie is sticking to its guns of conventional beauty, even as that standard becomes outdated.

WestIndianArchie, just a heads up--you're missing some quote tags around the passage from the article, which made me double-take as I thought for a moment that you were calling conventional beauty standards outdated.

Abercrombie is a pretty red-pill corporation, if you could call a corporation red-pill. When you traffic in sex appeal and $$ are on the line, you have to keep it real.

Even better - in those stores - a Large will be the same size as what would be considered a Medium in most other stores.

Hollister do the same thing. And I suspect GAP do as well...

In Hollister stores in the US, only people who could rank 7 and above on a looks scale are hired, and on days when higher management comes in to visit, the less attractive employees work in the back. The store managers get in real trouble if they don't do this.

Yeah I also like the way that they don't hire ugly girls because they're 'looking for "models" and thus can differentiate on looks.

Textbook example of niche marketing. Doesn't hurt that their niche(pretty, preppy, usually White) is typically loaded. Any boycotts will be useless.

I'm all for the anti-fat acceptance, but the whole marketing to "cool" high school kids is mad gay. Fatitude is only half the problem today. The other half is every entitled American 7 who thinks she's combination a Hilton or a Kardashian because of her brand name handbag and iPhone 5.

You can't buy cool at a store. This whole mentality is just feeding the entitlement mentality.

I used to work at Abercrombie and Fitch and have fond memories. Most of the employees are insecure girls in the 18-22 range.

I got a XXL hoodie from either Hollister or Abercrombie once.

The sleeves were about 3 inches too short. Normally I get XL's...

It's not fat people's fault that they have BMI's 29+. We need tax those rich waifs at double the rate of everyone else. They have Thin privilege so they can afford it.
