My brother used Mile High Energy Solutions. They are a hiring agency for over 30 oil field companies I believe. Search for it and see what's up.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

North Dakota has some openings, their clinics/hospitals are packed due to the influx of people settling in. Look up for nurse openings there on indeed.

All rigs/boats offshore require having a staff nurse on rotation. They get paid pretty good for passing out Motrin. Any significant injury has to be medivaced. Check out rigzone for an idea for the requirements.

Geologists are in demand to. Look into it.

No experience but he has his CDL. West Texas. Ture. If I wasn't was in a bad spot I would do it in a heartbeat. Still I rather be overseas than working in the oilfield haha.

I thought about joining the Army a while back but couldn't meet one person who recommended it. Veterans and regular people.

Nothing sucks worse than a veteran crying about their service. They act like victims, worse than feminist. The new era wasn't drafted, and use it as an excuse. Those that are proud to serve do well in life, and those that cry about it are homeless/unemployed/gay/ or in a dead end job at best. A very clear distinction.

According to LibertarianBootyHunter entry level positions are not found online and one must seek them in person, which is similar to what SwearBox was told in Canada....positions are not posted because they if were, many people would apply.

I Googled some "roustabout jobs in Texas". There are jobs out there, but most don't post the pay rate. One roustabout job was paying 10.50 an hour.

Houston, does that sound too low for you? Since you're in the zone, what do you think should be "minimum" for a roustabout?

The cost of living out there is pretty high, especially in odessa.....which makes 10.50 not go very far.

My experience is in: sales, contracts, computer repair, construction clean up, and cleaning offices.

It would be nice if someone "in the zone" could give a quick update, thanks.

I'm almost 27, about to graduate with an MSc. in Economics (not MA, but MSc.), have a lot of office work experience (finance/shipping/energy) but have also worked as a bartender. I am a great number cruncher and all that, but working in the outdoors really appeals to me, because I hate sitting in a fucking chair all day (unless it's to read something interesting, in which case I can sight tight forever). I do wonder if I'd be cut out for this stuff because I'm a bit of an intellectual/bohemian, on the other hand, I can see my degree giving an advantage down the line. With my background, ought I still try to get in at the ground floor or should I try something else?

A year from now you'll wish you started today

Don't join the Army especially now that it's transitioning back to garrison life. I have served for four years and the Army is more dysfunctional than you could imagine. There are layers of retardation that soldiers deal with that you as a civilian don't know about.

Better to work in the oil industry and make money and gain skills.

In Australia there is a lot of mining, pipeline and onshore gas companies that operate in areas that are 100s, or 1000s of kilometres from large towns or cities. In many cases they have guys working out of fixed, or mobile work camps for 2-4 week shifts, and given the inherent danger to many of these jobs obviously some consideration must be given to workplace health and safety.

There is a small number of companies that provide health and safety related services to these sites, ranging from keeping sites stocked with first aid consumables & defibs, providing first aid training, right through to providing emergency response and evacuation for incidents.

Perhaps you'd find a role in this sort of area??/ If you can pick up some first aid certificates, as well as some other useful and related certs you'll be valuable.

Also if your skill set is useful for this area, then rehabilitation and 'return to work' services are huge.

Example of some random companies that do these things:

If you like working with your hands, you'll enjoy it. The thing is you won't be able to talk about intellectual stuff with your coworkers, but they'll be fun. On the brighter side, with good pay and time off....you can engage your intellectual pursuits in your free time.

The thing is, the Army offers trade education and experience. There's a few RVFers that are making bank just from their skills learned in the military. One enlisted in electronics for the Marines and is doing well himself. That and intelligence are good paths to go with.

There are many jobs requesting CDL drivers, especially with HazMat certification. Even in West Texas, you'll find A LOT of driving jobs....more than any other type of job.

It really depends on the company. Some roustabouts on those big rigs are starting off at 25/hr and doing 16 hr days for months at a time. I think Halliburton was paying 17/hr in that oil town.

ummmm
Another question ....do they pay overtime after 8 hours or 40 hours in the oilfield. That would be where the big bucks are?

It seems the jobs available to someone with my background are mudlogging, monitoring while drilling (MWD) and logging while drilling (LWD). Anyone out there doing these jobs offshore and can kick some advice my way? Unfortunately I don't have oil and gas experience and it might hurt me in my job search since I'm now 28, but I hope (and think) the opportunities are out there.

You might to get in the chatroom around 9CST, there's a guy who works in a platform and might answer your questions.

I was actually looking into this. When I looked at the job ads the companies all want experienced drivers. Which I can understand. Hauling oil or dangerous chemicals on icy roads is probably not for newbies.

Btw guys, where the hell is the chatroom? Is it invitation only?

Go to west texas, there a lot of CDL jobs. They don't even ask for experience, just CDL and Hazmat endorsement.
