Without the Internet
Imagine if the internet was never invented, where do you think you would be now? The same person or someone completely different? Same lifestyle? Same career?

For me I would have been going into my new entry level job after graduating and thinking life was going good. Rat race for 40yrs working shitty jobs, possible chance of promotion after 10 yrs of same industry work. Retire at 65-70, save barely enough to survive if government does not fuck me over.

Shit - tonight? I would have posted my review of Myth of Male Power. However, since my apt died but my phone did not, here we are. Really, without internet, there ain't much going on.

However, you have to consider the development of the internet. Emails, usenet, all that. It has grown far beyond the conviences we know.

RE: Without the Internet
The internet has it perks but I think the world was better off without it. People had to communicate with people in real life not on facebook walls. Girls didnt have 50 beta ass dudes liking every photo they post an blowing up their egos. Any where I go be it out to eat or home for thanksgiving dinner everyone just sits with a phone up to their face, specially kids. For thanksgiving this year there was about 8 or 9 kids at my aunts house an every single one of them just sat some where with a iphone or ipad playing game (cept for one kid who had a nintendo DS) When I was that age around kids like that we were out playing an getting into stuff an learning how to socialize.... I could make this rant go on an on but I will just end it here.

RE: Without the Internet
Everything was fine before this. I'm technically not supposed to be here myself. What happened in my case after my kid was born 5 years ago I was bored at night and got a laptop and started stealing signal from neighbors. Before that It was slow dial up at work just to put shit for sale and pull from pof. I would go months without logging on. Then I found this place and learned how to type etc...

Now, this has put a huge dent in my income. I'm a flipper as in cars. It seems that even the old ladies are doing homework and trying to get dealer list for their shit as before nobody knew what anything was worth. We had auto trader magazine and that's it.

Also, people are content here as before you would stare at the walls, talk on the phone or watch TV. If you wanted to be social you had to go out. The bars were filled with girls.

RE: Without the Internet
If I was given the chance to decide if the internet was ever invented or not, I would say no. I just say that because smart phones and the internet being in your pocket 24/7 now. It w as a lot different just what 5 years ago? Before smart phones blew up. That shit is really fucking everything and everyone up. It was cool when you had to go on a computer to get online.

I more than likely would have committed suicide. I had seriously considered it a few times in high school. My social life didn't take off until after high school, using the internet as a tool to do so.

RE: Without the Internet
Interesting question. I don't think I'd be the same person. Knowledge moves fast online and I've learned a lot of things I probably would never have. I've gone for periods with pretty much no internet(only used it if absolutely necessary), it kind of clears my mind and I feel more at peace...actually I'm going to go for an internet fast again.

I think for many it's replaced real human interaction and made things more transactional. Definitely contributed to a lack of manners and social retardation in the younger generation. At the same time it's opened opportunities never before possible.

I'd know a lot less about building muscle.

Imagine having to go to barnes and noble to buy shitty fitness books, or the library.

I'd also probably have a toxic girlfriend or wife if I didn't have the internet because I wouldn't know any better.

“I have a very simple rule when it comes to management: hire the best people from your competitors, pay them more than they were earning, and give them bonuses and incentives based on their performance. That’s how you build a first-class operation.”

Before the internet I used to go out to bars and pull girls.

Now I go to the bar to get drunk.

I pull the broads online as the quality is higher.

Well, the rate race you talk about, for many jobs, now involves being accessible 24/7 and working far more hours than was the case in the 9-5, pre-internet world.

And the 40 year career option is no longer generally available, in part because the internet has made it easier to outsource and easier for the best professionals to dominate their industries and eliminated the need to rely on local service providers. And the greater price transparency and ease of accessing competitors has driven down pay.

And when you're looking for a job, potential employers can now delve much deeper into your private life through Google and searching social media.

I would have more career success. Goofing off online is better than the boring career grind.

On the other hand, I would be married with children and miserable.

I'd be one of those guys in "American Beauty" or something, living out my life in quiet desperation and waiting to die.

The Internet (first Doc Love and then Roissy) was my exposure to game. Without the web my life would likely be fucking miserable as I kept wondering why "doing all the right things" just got me shit on by my wife (no ex) and gave me bad results with women in general.

Very much a double edged sword.

An infinite amount of information with such simple access... incredible.

But like anything that humanity gets its hands on we have mutilated it and twisted it. Smart phones, FB, Twitter, all those genderqueer/pansexual retards etc...

Actually, the guy in "American Beauty" adopts an Absurdist mentality halfway through the movie, which makes his life way more enjoyable.

That doesn't sound that bad to me.

RE: Without the Internet
Although social networking is a huge negative and makes society worse as people become more insulated, I think the internet has be a net positive in terms of providing access to information, entertainment, and business.

Without the internet I'd have no game, and probably be fucking miserable chasing after girls that detested me. Then I'd compensate to win their favor, and become ridiculously beta.

The greatest blessing of the internet, however, it the travel knowledge it brings. That alone is worth it's weight in gold.

God bless the internet.

The internet is great for travel but removes a lot of the adventure out of it.

I miss writing and receiving hand written letters, used to get those a lot, e-mails and fb messages are so much more impersonal.

I had this discussion a couple of days ago. My answer was to rewind the world to about 2000 to 2005 area where the internet was only really on desktops and social media had not exploded. Texting only hadn't gotten big either.

Last night I was finishing up dinner with a few friends and I noticed a pretty decent looking girl come in an join her two friends at the bar. They seriously squeezed together an pushed their chest up an took pics for the next 20 minutes. Maybe longer cause they were still doing it when I left...

Women now use the internet for socializing. It's a total 180. Back in the day they sat around bored all day or at work, and couldn't wait to get to the bar to talk to people. Now that itch is scratched on Facebook, Instagram, ect. Instead they go out now to have something put on the social media sites. And it's only getting worse. All I can say is keep your game tight.
