Need some input on what to do here. My lease is coming up for renewal in the next couple of months and I currently live about 15-20 minutes from downtown in a 1br place in a decent apartment complex. Obviously, moving downtown would improve my logistics for day game and weekend game but my cash flow isn't such that I can swing a 1br in the best parts of the city without crippling my social budget. I'll be 30 this summer and after living alone for the past 7 months, I thought I was done with roommates, but having one would be the best way for me to move to a better complex in a more lively area of the city without killing my budget. The only issue with getting a roommate is that it would have to be a random, most likely from Craigslist.

What would you guys do in my situation? Find a random roommate to move downtown with or stick it out at a 1br in the burbs for another 6 to 9 months?

20 minutes is nothing. Roommate can be big hassle. Broke, lazy, messy, unhygenic, dishonest etc etc etc

...unless you found a female roomate who was socially-connected and could assure an array of hot women running in and out of your place. Would make for good wing-women too if you're goal to be in the city is to go clubbing.

but it is an "if", and you'd be open to all of the negative possibilities that it would bring.

We have a few roommate threads in lifestyle. Overall consensus is no no no. If you have to get a roommate, get them on the lease and don't get a friend. Do as much research as possible on the dude or girl. As long as they are relatively clean, quiet, and pay rent on time, then you don't need to be friends.

I would go with logistics and try the roommate thing. 6 month lease if possible. Try a young professional that can use the logistics also. What city is this in? Is downtown that live?

Yea, I would definitely vet the person before we go out and start looking for places. Someone over 25, male, preferably single, professional, and with good social skills.

Having a female roommate is no good. I had a chick roommate once and she threw salt in my game by telling my gf about the other girls I brought through the house. Yes, that can happen with guy roommates, but the chances are much lower. Also, living with a female roommate makes girls you're dating really suspicious, especially if she is attractive. That is drama that I don't need. I'd also have a hard time keeping it in my pants if I had a hot roommate.

I live just outside of Atlanta, so downtown is supposedly the place to be for black guys.
