Perhaps the thought wouldn't have occurred to them if he weren't a famous terrorist. Even if it did, suppressing such a thought would be just basic common sense. Furthermore, it seems like a rule of thumb even with unattractive famous criminals, whereas for men it's more of an exception. But you may be right too.

Of course, it would be impossible for some sociologist to do an official study on this and compare news reports from last 20 years or something.

Actually, having had many patients who were murderers when I worked in prisons, murderers are actually often afflicted unfortunates with lisps, short height, and misshapen faces.

This type of mass murderer is much more narcissistic, both these guys worked out a lot and learned fighting, so they looked OK.

Imagine how inflated your self-image would have to be sure of your your idea that it's OK to murder a random group of strangers for some abstraction like religion, and as the kid put it "thrills".

A modern version to consider would be restricting voters to those who pay more tax than they claim back, for example.

It wasn't even the wealthy minority in the UK, a lot of people owned their own homes and voted. People could rise to the 'aristocratic' classes. From 1880 onwards (before vote was given to all) going to school was compulsory from the age of 5-10.
