How the hell do you go broke selling cupcakes? Hocking sugary snacks to Americans is like being the crack kingpin of Detroit. There should be absolutely no way to fuck that up.

High end Donuts are blowing up here in Canada. The Cupcake trend here died a while ago.

Macaroons are still big here, girls get wet for them. I don't get it as they are okay but nothing special.

Look at the Food network for trends - Cupcake shows are being replaced won doughnut shows.

Conchas are absolutely delicious. It's like sudden onset diabetes with every bite.

My money is on indigenous bakeries to make a run. We haven't reached rock bottom until we have people paying 20 bucks to eat bitter pancakes made from acorns.

I tried a macaroon for the first time two days ago at a popular bakery called Moo that keeps pushing it with their advertisements:

Guys, it was very disappointing. Just a condensed sugar bomb without the softness of cake or doughnut. Never again. I paid $2 for the large size. A short taxi ride here is also $2.

There's a lot of hype behind macaroons because when you get a good one they are pretty unbelievable. The best I've had are Laduree. They take this shit seriously. There's a shop in NY.

I think they're like $5 per. I know that's insane, 5 bucks for a small cookie, but it's worth it to try once.

I have no idea what a cupcake is. I prefer our traditional Viennese pastries:

Rents in SWPL areas are brutal.

Hence the rise of food trucks.

Surprised no one has a cupcake truck.

Drive to all the corporate offices and other areas where females predominate.

I want to say I saw a cupcake truck in Williamsburg one time. Not 100-percent sure, but it was something very close.

Your photoshop skills are improving. The logo seems curved around the bottle.

From looking at paleo it seems everybody seems to benefit from cutting grains out of their diet. They may not be gluten free because they are sensitive to gluten (according to any test) but it amounts to the same thing in practical terms - being gluten free.

Good point. I made a very similar one earlier about Hostess.

Could it be that Americans have reached the saturation point about their junk? No, but maybe the market isn't as inelastic as once thought.

The gourmet cupcake shop is too inefficient. The long lines. You have to walk there. You pass more shops with other pastries or frozen yogurt. Status whoring can only go so far to compel you to make such a minimal effort of walking there and to endure the small hardship of waiting for it.

The real way to make a killing is to deliver your desserts (cookies, cupcakes, cake) to the homes and offices of your consumers like a fucking pizza. I'm surprised that this hasn't blown up already.

That's a traditional apfelstrudel, or apple strudel.

What we know in the states as strudel is usually made with puff pastry which is rich in butter. The Viennese original is actually a really lean dough. It takes a few people to make it properly; they stretch it out over a large table until it's so thin that you can see through it and then add the filling and roll it up. I've made that shit and it's not easy.

Half of my dad's side is Hungarian, so I'd grow up eating Dobos torte and some pretty amazing cakes.

I remember when I first went to a friend's birthday party and tried that Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines shit; I wouldn't eat more than a bite.

In fact, now that I think about it, eating at friends' houses growing up was always pretty fucking terrible. Just another case of feminism-in-action: frozen food for dinner.

Germknodel

Hungarians have a word "Nokedli" that we use for an all purpose dumpling. That one above is a yeast dumpling that's poached and filled with jam, usually prune or raspberry.

In Austrian, "Germknodel" literally translates to "Semen and molly covered breast of virgin".

There's definitely a cupcake truck. Swing by Abbott Kinney on First Friday or maybe even The Victorian on Tuesday evenings.

After mostly cutting out sweets and sugars from my diet, I prefer smaller sweets for when I do indulge. Fill up on meat and fat, and then have, say, half a cookie. More of a palate cleanser than anything.
