They do not speak polish in western Ukraine although they understand a bit.However polish is very useful in the neighbouring parts of Poland.

I agree with this in general.

Don't neg their looks. You don't need to be negging the girls there to bring them down a peg or two because unless you are hanging around the snobby types ( and why would you choose too? ) they are not on their high horses and have not been pedastalled by the local men. Just approach women and convey who you are and what you stand for without the subterfuge of pretending you don't like them or the other games we often play in the West. The girl will either like what you stand for or not. If not no harm done, move on. No need to waste your time.

Also Avantgarde what were your success rates back in the USA? I ask because maybe you had unrealistic expectations of the place. If you we're not getting 7's back home easily then I doubt you will get them easily in the Ukraine. Personally I do much better at home then in Rus/Ukr, I just love the challenge that is all.

My experience was completely opposite from yours Vorkuta. In EE I was getting contact information from 8+ girls while back home I am stuck with mostly 6's. I do get occasionally 7.5+ girls to give me their numbers but then flaking happens 90% of the time with them. In Ukraine that was never the case. I think my "foreigner" factor worked in my favor.

BCZ - I think however that you speak fluent Russian, right? That is the big problem I have over there tbh, my lack of competency in the language. Also the fact that I have not spent long stints in the countries. Except Central Asia where I had the best times of my life, most of my trips have been a week or less which is simply not enough. This has meant that I still struggle at times and it still has not 'clicked' with me yet. For example I am far more intuitive and knowledgeable about the Indian scene and women than I am Russian having spent 4 years in India. I get Indians and feel mastery over the dynamics there. Russians however often leave me with the feeling of two steps forwards, one step back. I don't mind as I really love the challenge and the minor successes give me the desire and energy to push on however I do much much better at home in all honestly.

Near fluent would be a better definition as I have a slight accent and a vocab that is more limited than a natives so serious conversations such as debating certain topics like politics with the locals can be challenging.
I thought you live in Russia now so you must have the time for at least a few STR's/LTR's, unless you're a workaholic (which is something that has hindered me a lot in the past).

I find in most cases being a foreigner with good grip of local language is easier for gaming than someone who is a local as you already have the exotic factor working in your favor. I rarely look or act like someone who is visiting for a short-term to sight-see and was even carrying a laptop and some pen & paper around to some of the coffee shops I went to game to so I suppose business game (suit + laptop) and good language skills is a great combination.

By the way, the pen & paper trick was "taught" to me by this guy with whom I had the pleasure to shoot the breeze in Warsaw:

Anyways, the only time I had problems was when I run into an occasional taxi driver or street vendor who somehow (accent?) finds out that I am not from around and tries to rip me off.

No I don't live in Russia but I plan to after a course of language study.

But listen up, your language is near fluent right so think of all the opportunities you have from that and how that smooths things over with girls. I am nowhere near that level, I have 'tourist Russian', I can buy train tickets and very simple banter. If I don't have something else to fall back on like attraction or foreigner status I will struggle and not be forgiven my mistakes of lack of language subtlety.

An example: I was in Gomel a few years back and was in bed with a student I had met earlier in the night. Was going to be my first Slav SNL but she spoke zero English. My exotic factor had gotten me to the point we were at. The thing was she was giving me some major LMR in bed. Now in England/Aus/NZ etc. I can handle that through persuasion or encouragement or freeze outs or just whispering all the things I want to do to her and how good it will make her feel. However my clunking vocab meant I could only say something approximating 'ya hachu seks staboi'. Not exactly panty wetting banter. I got a freeze out. That is one example of many missed opportunities that I don't miss with English speakers. I love Russian women but I never feel 100% in charge of the interaction like I do with English women, I find it harder to lead. That is why when I find an English groupie such as in Abkhazia last year it is a relief as I know I will be forgiven cultural insensitivities and blunders. I could chase the Kiev princesses who speak flawless English but those are not my types, I like girl next door types who don't hang out in high end clubs and expat hangouts.

Again, not that I am complaining. I would not swap the highs and lows for anything.

You say that but show me a foreigner who is getting the top talent in these countries. I've never seen an expat walking home with the hottest girl in the club. I see them with the regular types that can't get the top local men.

I don't wear a suit or carry a laptop when I am abroad. I try not to bullshit these women with stories about how I am in the city 'on business' unless I am. I tell them the truth that I travel to the region often for adventure and that if I found a place I liked I would return for longer. If they don't like it that's cool. Fortunately the truth still intrigues enough to keep me happy.

Yes, that's a good point you make however I am not sure if the "adventure" angle would work in larger "business centered/industrial" Ukrainian cities.
I will use your advice in a couple months, I think the Crimea region will be good for that as I can always mention my interest in water sports (i'm a decent windsurfer) and take it from there.
