Thats actually a hostel above. Its called Washington International Student Center. But there are a lot of decent spot very close...Adams morgan is probably the biggest drunk crowd in DC.

has anyone ever stayed at the hostel on like 11th and L? somewhere around there. after my time in europe as a kid I alway figured that would be a good place to pick up some australian backpackers or something similar.

There are two close to 11 & L. I stayed in both about, a few years back when I retuned to dc, after interning abroad in China(waiting for my dorm to open at college). Got my Aussie flag like that.

I would say Dupont or Logan for logistics. You won't get much space though.

I appreciate all the sincere and thoughtful replies. You need a car here. I understand some members are from European cities with excellent subways; other members are not old enough to have drivers licenses or can only afford skateboards. If you are young and hip then you could live without a car in the city. Then you could only date young nonprofit workers who also live in the city. It doesn't matter, I have a car.

Why do I need a car? Let's forget job, gym, groceries, and suburban life.

To immediately answer booty calls.
To access Maryland suburbs, Virginia suburbs, Annapolis, Baltimore.
Take convenient trips to the airport or New York.
Go hiking at Great Falls, or even a camping trip.
Participate in D.C. suburb social circle game (pool parties and events).

A car gives faster, easier, and broader access. Read Roosh's old stories about riding his bicycle from the Metro after midnight. Have fun doing that in the winter! Have fun picking up a high-maintenance suburban woman that way!

Have any of you had a friend or lived in a busy area (little ghetto?) close to a beer/smoke/news store? You can basically party on your porch and wait. I've done this before. If you have booze and weed you'll have no shortage of hoes coming through...

Think this: You're on house arrest. Anyone with cash could do this with a good lawyer instead of jail for a couple years. Where should you live? In a high traffic area where you can talk shit on your front porch to passers by.

I used to hang out on porches like these and run street game. We'd bounce from place to place burn some weed and pick-up whatever girls were around. You'd be surprised at what's walking back and forth to the corner store.

So I'm also moving to DC soon - is there anything wrong with Dupont? I have found some ok studios within my budget. For proximity to nightlife and date logistics, seems like it can't be beat. Is there something I'm not understanding?

Is U street really that happening? Or Northern Virginia?

DuPont is logistically perfect. You should be happy there. The only thing you should be aware of is that it is a very rainbow flag neighborhood.

Clarendon / Courthouse area is great for 25-35 yr old white girls. But it comes at a price - You have to live in Arlington. It's not that cool of a town. All those girls go to DC to hang out anyway.

I think it is better to live where they hang out, not where they live. Does that make sense?

DuPont is logistically perfect. You should be happy there. The only thing you should be aware of is that it is a very rainbow flag neighborhood.

This seems to be the case in many parts of the US, from NYC to Miami to LA. Gay neighborhoods are cleaner, safer, and the straight girls you find in them are way more receptive. The logistics are often airtight as well (no pun intended).

I know...but for brown dudes in Russia it's torture being surrounded by hot girls that treat you like a second class citizen. Had better luck in DC despite the drop in attractiveness. And if I live in Dupont I figure logistics would be easier than in Moscow where I'm not in the best location.

Bethesda is good if you are married and with kids but otherwise I would suggest living in someplace with better logistics or closer to colleges (and college chicks). You can live near college park or in georgetown. Presently there are a lot of city neighbourhoods that are becoming gentrified( i.e. cleaned up) and they tend to be cheap as well. If logistics are good then I would suggest to live in such a neighbourhood.

I would pick Bethesda over College Park. You are a few quick stops away on the redline from American University and downtown DC. I went to Friendship Heights and Bethesda Row for the first time 2 weekends ago. Talent level was pretty good. Not as good as Arlington, but nothing to complain about.

If you wanted to save a few bucks, yea sure you could head to Capitol Hill, Bloomingdale, Petworth, Columbia Heights, wherever - but you are still better off spending the same money on a smaller place in Dupont or Logan. a085 is coming from Moscow. Agreed. It really boils down to logistics: live as close as you can to the places you like to frequent. Makes it easier to get a girl back to your place later on.
