I wouldn't consider it quite within "the US system", but you can live in The USVI indefinitely, regardless. The only problem would be income.

But if you have that nailed down, then I read that the lifestyle can be great. Especially if you have a boat. Although, some people prefer land living there after they originally do the live-aboard lifestyle for a while.

It'll be interesting when a guy from this board eventually does the cruising lifestyle thing in the Carribean, and then comes back here to tell us about it.

I know some people who've spent time in the USVI, and it sounds alright, depending on what you're into. St. Croix is where most people live, and it is a mix of urban blight, from poverty and oil refineries, as well as tropical beauty with some nice beaches and inland jungle spots.

St. Thomas, is just a big cruise ship port, nothing special, but maybe a chance to bang some tourist women, although I'd imagine most tourist women are going to be with boyfriends/husbands or with family.

St. John is mostly a natural park reserve, and is supposed to be incredibly beautiful, but there is little to no infrastructure, and not more to do, than chill on the beach or hike into the "bush."

My boy got robbed at gun point on St. Croix when he was staying out there for 3 months, they have a lot of resentment towards white folks, and like other spots in the Carribean there is a strong "Shotta" (gangster) culture. If you are into Rasta spirituality/culture/art/music like me, you can maybe link up with some cool/genuine Rastas, but otherwise, the people are probably hit or miss. I'm not into black women, so much, and if you aren't either, your best bet would be to hit on tourist women, but a lot of white tourist women go to the Carribean, because they have a fetish for black guys, and want to fuck black dudes like crazy, in a free and non-judgmental environment.

Unless you get a job with a big company at the oil refineries, or work as a chef in an upscale hotel, there is little employment in the USVI. It could be cool to be semi-retired and sail around the islands though.
