On a serious note. sure the act of Djing may have become easier, but DJ's are pretty much going the way of the Dodo. . .eventually they're going to just be producers who play their stuff on stage. Producing is infinitely harder than Djing on Vinyl ever would. Music theory, ear-training, production theory, is pretty damn difficult.

Amen to that, brother. As someone who spent years in musical training I was long suspicious of DJs who in my view just "played records". That's until I tried it myself and realized what it really was about - knowing music on a much deeper level than a mere listener ever will (and I don't mean it in a disparaging way but yeah, the DJ really must understand everything about music, and sound, and acoustics, and hardware, and... it adds up).

Soup, what do you suppose elevates one DJ to the level of super-stardom compared to others if they are all just hype?

Surely if the majority of DJ's have such little talent, it would be easy for anyone on the forum to become a successful dj based on Game/sales ability?

And I hate to inject "Red Pill" into this discussion, but based on your comment isn't Red Pill supposed to be seeing things as they exist in the world, rather than as you would want them to be with your own personal opinions?

For example, maybe it would be good to understand DJ culture further and it's appeal rather than just hate on the fact that there aren't Roma Gypsy guitarists on stage instead.

This was hilarious...

Not all DJs are created equal, I think most big DJs are only good for festivals I've seen many and they weren't that great in clubs. However, you can clearly tell the difference between DJs who are good. dada Life for example is a great DJ to see live the energy is amazing.

Dash Berlin is one example of a DJ who you should only see at a festival, he's good then but in a club it's like he doesn't care much.

A DJ needs to be able to work a room for sure, but I'd say there's not too much more talent involved in it. Anything more than that, and you are getting into producing your own material.

DJs getting famous is all hype and publicity. I think some of those guys end up becoming producers and making their own track, but getting famous for the act of making or improvising a playlist is BS.

The problem is that people are placing way too much importance on clubbing or whatever.

Don't get me wrong.. when the DJ is bad, a party is ruined. But, in the same way that a chef isn't an artist, no matter how great a chef he may be.. a DJ is a craftsman, nothing more.

Once you start getting past selecting tracks to play, then you are talking about something that isn't a just DJing any more.

I'm talking about the DJ who essentially is playing records, messing with the eq, maybe adding some effects, transitioning between songs.. and what seems to be the most important part, looking cool.

It's just like in the video.
