I think overall, it just has to do with the type of person you are and they are. Even if the person is your best friend, they can be a pain in the ass to live with. A complete stranger can sometimes be much easier to live with than your best friend. The most important things I feel are paying rent on time (obviously), being clean, and respect.

I've had more probs with clean freaks than slobs. Except drunks who make noise when I have to get up the next day to work.

One place I would wash my dishes immediately , but then he would bitch that I hadn't put the dishes AWAY after they dried. Was I supposed to wait exactly two hours for the dishes to dry...?

That sucks. That dude was just too anal. As long as someone is doing their dishes, I don't even mind putting them away. That's a big one though. I consider myself a clean person. I have to live with someone who cleans their dishes after eating. Take a couple hours, I don't care, but don't leave them in there for 2 days and expect someone else to clean them. Putting them away though is whatever for me. That's the easy part.

My friend lived with one. She never did her share of the house work. Never washed her dishes, and wanted the air conditioner set to freezing all the time.

Of course, my friend didn't have the balls to check her so she walked all over him.

This is all great advice. I have lived in a dozen different roommate situations, so I speak from experience.

Enjoying each other's company, but not necessarily socializing outside the house is great. You both have separate social lives, but don't mind hanging out together watching some TV or something.

*Important: Similar expectations about cleanliness.
*Important: Similar expectations about noise and periods of activity.
*Best that you aren't friends, but this CAN work if everyone is willing to make an effort and is mature. I'd generally advise against it.
*Trust your guy instinct. If someone gives you a funny feeling, don't room with them.

I just moved in with a friend I've known for a while. We're living in a studio. He's out of town 3 weeks of the month. So basically he's here for 1 week and I have the place to myself for the other 4 and he's giving me this deal rent free. He sees it as a favor for looking after his house, plus dude has mad money and doesn't need help with the rent, and I'm hooking up wifi and paying utilities plus hooking up the house with some other needed items. He's been out of town since I've been here. I think things should work out pretty well, but it's gonna be a bitch sleeping on the couch for a week. It's a good deal to get me on my feet here though. I'll be able to stack some loot.

Experience with women housemates--mostly bad, the worst thing is them bringing boyfriends over, the fucking guy can move in and you can't bitch 'cause you just look like a jealous Beta. Plus they expect to be able to bitch you out over petty shit , be rude, then act like nothing happened. Women never apologize 'cause it was how they feeeeeel.

They aren't married because they are nuts in some way and totally in denial of it and if men around them (now YOU) would behave everything would be just fine.....And they'll LET YOU KNOW how you should behave....

Yeah, I've only really heard about horror stories from men and women when it comes to having a female roommate. I just don't see how it could be beneficial. There are a few women I get along with well enough that I would actually live with them if I had to, but only as a last resort. They just aren't logical/team oriented enough for me to be someone I'd live with.
