I plan on traveling a month from the start of April. Until a few days ago I thought I was going to Myanmar, but I will not be able to obtain a visa before the 10.-12. of April, and therefore I will go somewhere else, and do Myanmar some other time.

I have never been to South America, and always wanted to try it, so how is this, say compared to Southeast Asia? Ease of travel, price etc.? And where would you guys suggest I should go, when I have a month of traveling?

As a side note, I do not speak Spanish - or not more than what I will be able to learn before departure.

What does your budget look like? How long are you traveling? What are your motives? Traveling through South America solo without Spanish isn't going to be an easy task. I would recommend Medellin since there are lots of other tourists, that is if you are looking for women and learning about a place. Befriend a foreigner that speaks both Spanish and English. Try and get him to show you the ropes. Take some Spanish lessons. You should be able to get some private lessons for $10 an hour. Not many locals in Medellin speak Spanish. Of the places I went, it had the least amount of English speaking natives. Lima had a decent amount of English speakers, but I enjoyed Medellin much more.

If you aren't on a tight budget I highly recommend Brazil. In Rio, Sao Paulo, or Florianopolis there are a lot of English speakers. Brazil is a very large country with many places to see. When I was in Brazil my second trip, I planned on traveling throughout South America, but found myself stuck in Brazil since I was picking up the language and having a real good time. That being said, if you plan on spending 3 months + in South America, I would either suggest hitting up a couple of Spanish speaking countries or only Brazil, and learn either Portuguese or Spanish. If you stay in Medellin I recommend AT LEAST one month there. It takes a while to crack, but it's well worth it.

If you are more into just exploring and not meeting women and learning about the culture, I would recommend Southern Peru and Bolivia and Northern Argentina. There is a ton to do in that area I.E. Machu Picchu, Lake Tittie Cacca, the Salt Flats, Nazca lines, etc. It all just depends, give us more of an idea of what you are looking for.

I plan on traveling for a month. From like 2.-4. April to 2.-3. May. Not on a really tight budget. Have not really decided how much I plan on spending, but having read about backpackers and witnessed their frugality, I think I can say that I am not on a tight budget.

I am definitely more into exploring, getting around seeing as much as possible, experiencing the culture etc. The last of your paragraphs, sound much like the kinds of experiences, I would be looking for.

Yeah, if that last paragraph sounds good, a month sounds like just the right amount of time to do it in. I would research a little more, I've never been down to that area. But just about half the people I met in Lima took that route and it sounded like a good time. The rainy season is wrapping up in Machu Picchu, so now should be a decent time to go. There is a lot to see in that area from what I've been told. Pretty sure Roosh did an excursion through that area years ago. In these areas, I'm assuming not speaking Spanish shouldn't be as big of a deal because you will probably be with other tourists which at least one will probably know spanish, and since it has a high volume of tourism, I'm assuming there should be a decent amount of natives that speak English. IDK though if Bolivia. Maybe someone else could chime in here.
