Smile
Went out with a friend last week, he told me to smile.

So right after my friend said this to me, two girls walked by us in a bar and I gave one of the girls a goofy smile because she was looking at me. She immediately responded with a toothy smile and seemed delighted as she kept on walking.

What I'm getting at is that I rarely smile or grin, unless someone has told me a very funny joke.

Could this be hurting my game?
My friend says I need to lose the killer look I have on my face.

Thoughts?

This is my problem as well! Smiling can actually lower bitch shields. A friend of mine recently observed me approaching on the streets, and he said that I look way too serious, almost as though I'm going to fight someone. I now try to at least smirk before approaching.

I was at some trade show some time ago and there was a stall with "technology of the future" gadgets. One of them was a TV with a webcam that had face-reading software. It could read your face and show your sex, age group and mood.

It got me as a "Male, adult" and in the mood section, the Angry indicator was like a 100%.

I was like no wonder I don't get people approaching me. I probably look perpetually pissed off.

Is there an answer other than walking around with a goofy smile all the time?

I also look very angry, so I'm sure I'd get 100% as well. Back when the Dark Knight Rises came out, a random Joker dude approached me and said "Why so serious?"

Practice relaxing your facial muscles. Scowling all the time will give you premature wrinkles and affects your mood. You need to work on a more positive/happy outlook. Are you as happy as you'd like to be? Your mood is under your control.

That is what I am talking about.
Sometimes I get too caught up with being "Alpha" and macho, I might actually being scaring people away.
A friend of mine always get opened because he has that happy go lucky demeanor.
I will add I live in the deep north, the winter is dragging on far too long for my liking. Then again, I don't like excuses.

Come to think of it, whenever I've been grinning/smirking as a result of thinking of something dumb/funny girls smile at me. The rest of the time time they break eye contact instantaneously and look down. I was walking to my TAs office to hand in an assignment and was tired/angry I'd catch girls looking but they'd look away instantly. On my way home I was happy to be done and had a grin on my face. multiple smiles

Aw come onnnn, smiling at a girl across the bar/coffeeshop/grocery line/etc and seeing if she smiles back is a super easy way to see if she's open to approach, and kinda old fashioned even? The ones who look away aren't open.

RE: Smile
I am liking Aneroid Ocean's post, very interesting perspective, and he's definitely right about, "scowling all the time will give you premature wrinkles and affects your mood." Also it's good timing with this thread, as it is something I've been thinking about lately, how I need to smile more and how it can make a big difference.

Basically I've never really liked the way my smile looks, and I think growing up I was at times conciously or unconciously unhappy, add to that I went to a middle and high school that were a little rough so I always felt the need to carry a stone face. These factors led to me not smiling much, like I said I became accustom to having a "stone face", but having this as a predominate facial expression is not conducive to good game or positive vibez.

I think smiling can make a big difference, and I always thought that Roosh and other game advisors were big advocates of smiling, it basically signals that you are having fun, have a positive vibe, are friendly, or not a threat. I think there is some principal that was found in a study that people had warmer reactions to people who smiled at them, comparative to someone who held a blank or unfriendly expression.

It's also important to return a smile to a woman who gives you one first, good eye contact usually precedes or goes along with the smile, I think the smile is a good IOI and if you are interested in the woman, it's good to give her a smile in return to show her you are interested, have a good vibe, and are confident.

My problem is I can't really smile on command unless it's totally authentic in the moment, because something made me laugh, or I'm having a lot of fun doing something. I'm going to start to make more of a conscious effort to smile more, even practicing it in the mirror before a night out.

I really think a good smile can help with an ice breaker, women want to talk to guys who are fun, interesting, and non-threatening or not too serious or boring. It can also help with the flirting process when being playful or teasing to show that you are just playing and keeping it light. A solid smile also always seems to come before a first kiss, solid eye contact, close proximity, and a smile, and it's time to go for the kiss.

A good smile puts out positive vibes, and the idea is that energy forces attract, if your vibe is really positive and you're a much more attractive person, and will help convert a woman's energy to be more positive and favorable. I think in the same way that a smile can attract positive energy, a scowl can do the opposite and put out a negative force that can work against you.

RE: Smile
I spent a lot of time on this. Smiling can be a tool or a handicap depending on how you do it; you don't want to give approval-seeking smiles to any random girl who walks by. (Watch chimps do this to alpha male chimps and you'll see how goofy it looks.)

What you need to communicate is that you are inherently happy and in a good mood. In order to communicate that, really, the easiest way to get there is to get into a good mood in the first place, and let yourself smile as a result of it. Whether that takes prefunking on rooshv.com, a double vodka tonic, high-fiving the guys at the end of the bar, whatever.

For me, I keep reality in perspective - for the most part, I'm deliriously happy *most the time because shit like this happens in the world and I'm lucky enough to be spared of it:

People ask me how my day is, I tell them I'm living the dream and I absolutely fucking mean it. I've got a mile-wide grin on my face right now. God bless the USA and all our fat chicks.

* - not all the time I guess. I'm only human.

Check out my occasionally updated travel thread - The Wroclaw Gambit II: Dzięki Bogu - as I prepare to emigrate to Poland.

RE: Smile
Just have a slight grin at all times. Even when dancing, vibing to music, or in social situations where you are not speaking. It causes you to be happy and makes it harder for people to bring you down.

If you are worried about it looking strange, it is not at all once you calibrate it. It can't be validation seeking or 'look at me, see this grin I am happy' projecting. It has to be genuine content in the moment. Look at the following video:

While he is turning, he already has a slight smile showing he is content with the moment. When he sees the attractive girl, he confidently eyes her down, and smiles showing that he likes what he sees, with full intent.

This is how to smile. This is how to do it without being goofy. And from my understanding and so far experience, most of the time you smile you should not show your teeth. Only show your teeth during a smile if you genuinely crack up in laughter or are having an extreme amount of fun.

Good example.

My parents neglected to get me braces when I was a kid (I'm not really sure quite why as they had good dental insurance and could afford it) and as a result I don't have the straightest teeth. I don't look like a shark, but at the same time it's definitely something that I want to address once I have the funds to do so (both from a cosmetic but also a functional perspective, some areas are hard to floss).

The one thing I've received the most compliments on from women (not just those I have dated)?

My smile. While I tried to cover it up some when I was younger, now when I'm having a good time, it's really hard to not be grinning.

You know when you're having a good time with your closest friends and your jokes (especially inside jokes) keep building on each other and you're laughing until your stomach hurts?

Those are some of the best times. If you can capture even a little bit of that with a grin, a no-teeth small smile, a full on open mouthed laugh, people will be drawn to you.

It says a lot that the most used emoticon in the world is the smiley face.

On the other had smiling like an idiot isn't good either. I have the angry face once and a while but for the majority of the time whenever I talk to people and my friends I always smile and chuckle. I don't think people take me very seriously because of that.

A couple of days ago I was kicking it with some buddies and this goofy ass was like "let me see your teeth again Houston" so I smiled and he said "Are those fake teeth? I bet you just smile at girls to bring them over". I do have pretty nice teeth. I don't smoke cigarettes, wore braces and take pretty good care of them. Girls always say I look mean and should smile more, but I feel weird when I'm walking around like that. Something has to get me to smile. I'm always cheesing and cracking jokes when I'm with people I know though.

Everything in moderation. Either you need to make sure you look cool, calm, collected, or you need to look like you're having a good time (smirking/smiling occasionally when making eye contact with girls or when you like something or are enjoying something). Walking around with a scowl on your face is rarely better than these two choices.
