When did you go abroad for the first time, to where and what convinced you to do it?

For me, it was a month-long backpacking trip across Europe in the summer of 2001. I just graduated from college and it was sort of a gift to myself. I'd had some friends that had done the backpacking/hostel thing and told me how fun it was and totally convinced me to go. I was so nervous at the thought of backpacking around foreign countries by myself that it took me like a week just to book the ticket because I kept putting it off, it was completely outside of my experience and comfort zone. Prior to that, I'd never been abroad other than forays into Tijuana and honestly hadn't given it much thought at all. Even then, it wasn't till five years later, sept of 2006 that I would leave the country again and head to Italy for just 9 days.

It was a loooooog time ago and I've never looked back since.

I didn't learn my lesson right away, but eventually, I realized that individuals should act like profit-minded multinational corporations and leverage geoarbitrage and international diversification in every aspect of their lives.

I first went to Europe with my mom when I was 13. I found that I really loved traveling. I went back to Europe when I was 18. And Im getting ready to go to South America for a year this year.You guys on this forum have hyped up Columbia so much that I have to venture there next, I figure that I have time though, seeing that Im only 19.

Dude, i wish i figured out how awesome traveling was and picking up hot foreign tale was when i was 19! I didnt discover this till i was 23!

If i was you i would hit up Brasil and Colombia first!

Yeah, I envy these young bucks. At 18 I had no idea about any of this shit. Travel, game, anything. I was running around chasing stupid bands.
