Hi, i'm about to buy a new laptop and i want Windows and all of my applications to be installed on an SSD. How hard is it to put in a SSD drive and reinstall Windows onto the SSD from the original hard drive?

Additionally, i'm also looking at a few laptops that say 8GB max memory but i've read about people putting in 16gb, but then you have to do something like partition something or another that i don't understand. I'm not a huge techie. Is it fairly simple to do this stuff, or is it better to just buy a computer with the SSD and 16gb already installed? Thanks.

I haven't checked, but probably tons of videos on youtube. And probably not to hard to find on google either. in my experience, nothing is to hard. i changed laptop screens etc. without to much hassle.

If it still looks complicated, i would just go with the 13" MBP retina, ssd integrated. I know mac are frowned upon in many circles, but I can't really see a better option as far as battery, screen quality, built quality, trackpad and keyboard.

thats what i used to move my newest notebook from sata to ssd and it worked fine, i didnt even bother re-aligning the partition thingo for max performance..and i get 150meg a second + speeds from external to internal storage over usb3

if you upgrade memory to 16 or whatever, window will adjust its page file accordingly but you do need to have enough partition space to accommodate such a change...i.e. 16gb memory requires 32gb of page file space so you lose that off the partition its stored on.

You mean you replaced your HDD(hard disk drive) with SSD(Solid-state drive). S-ATA is the technology used to transfer the data from a HDD or SSD.

I did it both myself.
If you have a mac, look at http://ifixit.com and youtube user tldtoday

It will be the same process for a windows laptop mostly.
You can't partition memory, only hard drives.
It's simple and you can save quite a bit of cash

when you install more memory , window will increase the page file accordingly, the page file is what windows uses when it runs out of ram...the page file will be at least as big as the amount of memory installed, maybe bigger and as a result it takes up space.

note: you should always have at the very least 20% free drive space or performance will suffer.
