It seems as of late that a girl giving me her number and me trying to ask her out is just a form of validation for her.

How about prefacing asking for her number by saying "I am trying to figure out if you are attractive or not" just as I hand her my phone or something along those lines?

To be honest, I am still a novice at game and I find it hard to build attraction in my brief initial interaction with a girl. How do I avoid the huge ego boost I give girls by asking/getting their number when I am getting nothing in return?

wrong mentality, theres no way around it. the girl holds the "power" of whether youre going to bang or not. your power rests in not giving a fuck about any individual girl and whether she "rejects" your advances

You honestly think that el mech/G/roosh etc go by the mentality "girls hold the power"? I think not.

I cannot build initial attraction like they can so I am looking for a sentence or 2 of dialogue I can say that doesn't ego boost but still gets me the number.

Stop getting numbers for a while - go for pulls or nothing if that makes you feel better. Wait until you build enough attraction that they want your number. They still won't be the ones asking though.

Or, when you "ask" for their number...make it a statement. Do it nonchalantly like "here put your number in my phone" or "give me your number before I leave to see my friends".

Sounds like the 'giving them validation' problem is in your head though, and it's manifesting itself in your actions when you go to do it.

Never give them your number. Always take her number "this is mine" mentality.

So for you specifically, I think you're also underselling how "soft" your game is, if you're coming off as an asshole and you're in shape, seems like you are in shape, you're fucking yourself. By game I mean net worth upon approach.

Game myth I mentioned before "being a dick works". Get that myth the fuck out, it's entirely how you sell yourself.

Example:
"Heyyyyy you're cucucute I just ha ha had to tata talk to you" (stammering)
"Hey you know what I thought you were cute so I came over to say hi. What's your name?" (Genuine tone, with playful confidence)
"Hey those are some weird looking nails" (cocky funny)

If the girl thinks you're a macho guy you're blown out with lines 1 and 3. You are just fine with line 2. If she thinks you're lower than her, a slight put down may work, but to be honest I have not "negged" a girl in years either

Indirect can work as well, but you have to be able to chat up for a long time. So you have to find the game style that works for you, the game I use the game G uses the game el mech uses the game Roosh uses, is not going to work to a T for everyone. This is because your entire persona needs to be congruent with her initial read of you.

To be honest the best advice I can give you specifically, is to disengage your worries a bit more.

You shouldn't care if she gained a little ego boost by getting your phone number.

Keep pushing that interaction! You'll be shocked in a few years when some days you walk into a club/bar and for some reason you already know every girl is going to accept your approach.

No matter what, girls have a certain power because they are the ones being gamed. They can choose to accept or reject the dick we are implicitly offering them. This is like saying "I don't want to fuck a girl because it means her vagina is more powerful than my penis since my penis goes inside it instead of the other way around." You just have to show her that you have dignity and aren't intimidated by her, you don't have to rub her face in the dirt. It's all about attitude and attraction. If you build the right amount of rapport and attraction she wont be flattered you asked for her number, she'll be worried about if you're actually going to call her or not. One way to do this is to ask for her number with a purpose. Propose a plan to hang out, then get her number as part of the logistics. "I'm going to take you out for a drink, put your number in my phone".

Alternatively you can do what presidentcarter suggested and take the No Number Challenge. It's actually not as hard as you might think.

But really chicks dig dudes who dig them. Letting a girl know you're interested but not sold is one of the most powerful plays in your book.

Let me tell you a little story I've witnessed another night. I approached a bunch of girls, tried gaming one of them, but soon realized that she's there only to party and have fun, not sex, so I abandon her and approach other girls. At the end of the evening I noticed another dude following her out of the pub (he must have approached earlier), then what appeared taking her number, she giving him a tap on the shoulder and rushing to her friends. I caught up him with and said "hey dude, don't worry, I tried with her too, not gonna happen". He was all excited and agitated btw.
Don't be that dude. If the approach isn't working out, asking the digits won't magically create attraction. Most of all, if she's already walking away, don't run after her asking the number.
If you're after numbers, talk to her about various possible ideas for future dates, and if she's interested in that, exchanging contacts will be a natural step.
