Are you talking about bitcoin price? Are you expecting further down at this point? Are you expecting a trend reversal at this point? Currently, we are certainly in a bull trend with a decent correction.

If you are referring to bitcoin's total market share, I don't know what bitcoin's total market share would have anything to do with me because I personally place very little importance on that as any kind of indicator of bitcoin's overall health.. especially in a rising market, like this. and the last 20 months have been amazing, especially since about new years..

Whoaza!!!!!!! hang on boys!!!!!

Anyhow, I am not sure about the connection or the meaning of the actual chart, except maybe to want to provoke, which what is the purpose of that? Are we competing in some way about something in regards to bitcoin or predictions?

I think that right now, we are in the midst of a pretty normal price correction, and it is great Finally, I have been able to buy back in.. We went all the way up from $890 to $2760 without any significant or meaningful correction (that is an amazing 3x rise in price in just a couple months).

This current correction from $2760 to $1850 (about 33%) was probably a bit over due.. and maybe not as much as I was thinking to be possible, but still a really decent correction.. and sure the correction might not be over, so if we have more correction, I am personally in a pretty decent position for that.. as far as my personal finances and my personal preparations...

In terms of my own trading mistakes, this particular correction has been pretty decent for me. I made a couple mistakes early on by canceling several of my buy orders and expecting more down in an earlier leg of the correction and then the price direction changed by going back up, but that mistake gave me an opportunity to reset and to spread out my buy orders quite a bit, which really made things much more manageable for me, when the second leg of the correction set in.

Several trading type folks will predict three legs to any significant correction, so in this situation we seem to have had two legs so far. I think? So a third leg could possible also.. but if the third leg does not happen, then probably, we are in territory that is relatively bullish for bitcoin, no?

I gotta repeat: Whoaza!!!!!!! hang on boys!!!!!

Welcome back Jay! I just bought a two coins and a little bit more at $2800 a few days ago, thanks for the tip! That's money well spent.

How many coin did you buy yourself?

It's all hypothetical, but yes right now I have 10% orders in these 10% increments. As I accumulate more coins however, I might make my orders smaller.

Yes, even though a bit more complicated to manage, percentages are better. My practice is to kind of round off, in order to attempt to not get caught up in the weeds. So for several hundreds of dollars of price change I will have one system, and then I will tweak it a bit in order that my numbers are better in line with my goals and considering the price change (and a little bit of a consideration of my anticipations about the price direction).

(05-28-2017 07:17 AM)CleanSlate Wrote:  As for $3400, I haven't even gone that far. I put in orders where I think prices can realistically go in the short term, as low as $1200 or as high as $2800.

I figured as much, and I understand that you were describing in hypotheticals, and in that regard, you may have been ball parking some of the matters.

I also just ballparked by projecting ahead to suggest that if you stuck with your plan then you would run out of coins at a certain point, and now that I look at it again, it looks like you would run out at $4400 (rather than $3400) .. Even though $4400 is safer, dealing in percentages would be even safer, and we seem to be on the same page there, so I am not trying to lecture you (rather than to just clarify) because we seem to agree on that point.

(05-28-2017 07:17 AM)CleanSlate Wrote:  That said, I do think we are more likely to hit $2800 than $1200 -- just because BTC is the gateway coin to other cryptos and there is more than enough support to keep us above $1200, but on the other hand I really don't expect $3400 any time soon.

We agree on the immediate rang and that there remains generally decent price pressures for up as opposed to down... Like you, I actually consider $1200 to be bit difficult to reach - but surely, I would not be shocked by it, and I actually am somewhat financially prepared for that possibility. I have buy orders that go down to a bit below $1200, and then at that point, I go into manual mode - or somewhere along the line, I would just reset some of my buy orders to go down further, if needed.

(05-28-2017 07:17 AM)CleanSlate Wrote:  We tried to make a run at 3k, only to have the price collapse back to 2k. The support isn't there... YET.

I take some issue with your characterization that we tried to make a run at $3k... I mean really? The fact of the matter is that we were barely getting passed $2500, so in that regard, there was a bit of a premature spurt up to $2760 - a bit of irrational exuberance. I would not characterize that as any kind of serious run at $3k..

Maybe we agree, but we are just phrasing the situation differently...?

I mean, the fact of the matter is that BTC prices were picking up steam and more steam and more steam and in the days before the correction, it was getting a bit out of hand, so yeah, retrospectively, a correction seems appropriate - even a 33% correction, like we experienced.

(05-28-2017 07:17 AM)CleanSlate Wrote:  I could be wrong but I just don't see it yet. Might change within a month or even a week.

I understand.. we have to ballpark the situation based on our current perspective, and yeah, the situation changes fast and seems to be evolving.. so sometimes it can take a while to regroup in order to attempt to figure out what is going on and the extent to which support or resistance may be strong or weak.

EDIT: Actually my response to Satoshi caused me to recall that I forgot that I had a third point that I wanted to make to you earlier.

Maybe you already know this, but I would like to say that when your orders fill to either buy or sell, then you should be adding an order to the other end.

So for example, in accordance with your hypothetical, if you were to sell 1 BTC at $2400, then you would have to adjust your next buy order from $1600 to $1800 or whatever increment that you felt to be suitable.

Welcome back Jay! I just bought a two coins and a little bit more at $2800 a few days ago, thanks for the tip! That's money well spent.

How many coin did you buy yourself?

Did you really buy coins, or are you just trying to be funny?

I think that you already know better than to buy on the pump, so??? I have difficulties taking your comment as serious and genuine.

Regarding my buying, you are suggesting some kind of misrepresentation of my practice. I have repeated a large number of times, so it seems a bit disingenuous that you keep repeating the same false and misleading theme in regards to my practice.

I sell on the way up and I buy on the way down. So if I had not sold any then I would not buy. Therefore I bought coins, and I bought quite a few. I bought some coins on the first leg down from about $2760 to $2226, and then I bought some more coins on the second leg down from $2600 to $1850. I just ran some of my numbers and it appears that I increased my BTC holdings by nearly 10% as a matter of both legs down.

In accordance with my practice, it does not matter at what price I bought the coins, as long as I sold at a higher price before I bought... so yeah, my average price per BTC continues to go down and my holdings continue to go up.

Furthermore, probably I am a bit more active in trading than I should be because currently, I am trading about every $50 price change, which is working for me at the moment, but is continuing to cause a considerable amount of work with orders filling in on an ongoing basis due to the considerable ongoing volatility. I have a tentative plan to change my price increments, but for the moment, my system seems to be working pretty good for me, even though it is also continuing to cause me more work than I would prefer. Also, for example, I will go out or sleep or some other activities for several hours, then I will have to spend a bit of time resetting my orders.

So you were selling at that point, when you recommended guys in this forum to buy?

Don't you feel ashamed, recommending guys to buy, when you yourself are selling?

It does make it seem like you post in this thread only to pump the price so you can sell high to some fool who will buy your expensive coins.

A picture might be worth a thousand words, but if it is provocation, then what? Is that helpful?

Gee you need to relax, take a step back. All it is is a picture of a guy with a towel asking for $2,500 BTC. It's a joke. Too much computer coin will destroy your soul.

Go outside, talk to some girls, take a break from the computer.

You don't need to critique, analyze, rebuke every single post from every single poster on this thread. It's not healthy. If you actually "buy on the way up, sell on the way down" you must have made some decent money. Enjoy it, live life, have fun. All the computer coin in the world can't buy a sense of humor.

Bitcoin is basically at all time highs, there is now another thread specifically for Ethereum. It seems all your dreams came true, but you always have a problem with something that is frankly, trivial. Sad.

What's the simplest way of buying/selling bitcoins online?

All I see are websites such as localbitcoins where if you don't already have a history of buying and selling thousands of bitcoins the sellers don't trust you and want you to send them a video jacking off next to the morning's newspaper with a dildo up your anus to make sure it's you. I mean, no one knew where this bubble would end.
If you did not have any bitcoin. Start buying gradually was not the worst advice. Easy to say in hinside buying was stupid. According to JJG he trades a lot, so its always within a few hours a good opportunity to buy/sell.

on a different note, quite interesting how we are still above 2000USD, i expected a crash like this to take us down to 1500usd theritory for a while.

It is interesting indeed, but looking at the pattern when the bubble popped in 2013 similar pattern happened then. A long steady decline. But I think we won't go as far down this time and perhaps we won't see any real bitcoin bubbles either. This was only a dubble in the price compared to the old ATH.

Have I directly answered this question nearly 10 times already? if not I have implicitly answered it 100s of times.

Yes. My strategy is to sell on the way up...

A strategy for someone who has coins is going to be different from a person who does not have coins.

No I do not feel ashamed. Guys make their own decisions regarding what stake they want to take, if any and at what time and whether to wait or not. I do not recommend waiting, unless you are really clear about price direction (which should be a rare thing). Anyhow, I am getting repetitive here, when you do not seem to want to understand basic concepts that relate to trading or that relate to accumulation or that relate to differences in time line and perspectives and that strategies are going to vary.

I do not recommend that guys sell if they do not have any coins, because that would be an impossibility. But I do sell my coins.. all the way up from $250 to present, and I have more coins than I did then. Go figure.

Also, the reason that many folks (on local bitcoins) want verification is because BTC is not reversible, but some methods of sending cash are reversible.

That is crazy. I say the same thing most of the time, but guys need to do what they feel comfortable with.

I don't recommend balls to the walls investing or waiting.

I recommend a combination of dollar cost averaging and timing and just getting started right away, unless, of course, you have a real good feeling about waiting for a short period because of an imminent dip.

I never know the price direction with any precision, so frequently, I will talk in terms of percentages, and if you get me to say anything more than 60%, I am feeling pretty strong about that, at the moment.. sentiment can change too, and my characterizations are captured at a moment in time while I am typing and they are not meant to trick anyone.

Ultimately guys have to decide their own proportions, timelines in accordance with their own financials and how much they want to allocate. Some guys might want to employ leverage, and I do not recommend leverage, even though guys might feel like they have decent strategy and/or luck in regards to leverage.

In the UK it's a lot more difficult. If you want to buy online use bittylicious, wide spread but you can actually stay anonymous and not have to upload ID, although it only lets you do small amounts until you've done more trades.

It's a far better system as it sets you up with a seller and takes your money and their bitcoins and stores them until it receives verification of payment, so you can't be scammed.

Wow. I just noticed that this week's candle is green, and prices have to close below $2030 for the weekly candle to turn red. It has been one hell of a week in bitcoin.

Anyhow, that is one hell of a month too. We currently have 5 green weekly candles in a row and 6 seems pretty likely. After this week candle closes, in about 5 hours, we will only have one red candle in the past 9 weeks. I think that could be a sign of over heated.. but who knows in this crypto space how it is going to play out?

At this point, I am not sure if there is going to be one more leg in the correction or whether we are going to resume up.

The trade volume remains quite high, and I doubt that it is going to drop off precipitously in the next couple of weeks, so it seems that the price battle is going to ensue at least a couple more weeks... even though consolidation could be possible too.. .. but I am relucant to call a range - even though $1950 to $2350 could be a preliminary possibility of a starting consolidation range.. that is likely not to hold for too long.. and at this point, a break upwards seems slightly more likely than a break downwards.

The weekly candle closes at midnight GMT - which I believe is one hour from now. So this week's candle will close in one hour.

Further, we have 5 green candles, and this one is really likely to be green, unless the price drops quickly by $120 to go below $2030 - which is possible.. but seeming less and less likely.

I said whatever I said. If anyone wants, he can go back and read my posts in the proper context.

We had pretty decent momentum to breach $3k, but we did not...

Anyone with any brains should understand that momentum can change at any time.. so none of us know these kinds of things.. unless we are whales, and maybe even the whales do not really know how many coins they are going to dump and how many other whales are going to dump.

In the end, I think that it doesn't really matter that much about what I said because it is my statement at that particular time.. and maybe my opinion will change 10 minutes after I post or two hours after I post.. there was a lot going on at the moment.. as we all know.. dynamic dynamics dynamics.. momentum momentum momentum..

Then NOT.

As frequently, I like to talk about what do we believe right now rather than Monday morning quarterbacking, which frequently will be a big waste of time..

From me, there is no attempt to be disingenuous or to trick guys, even though you constantly are attempting to assign some kind of disingenuiness to the contents of my posts.

Right now, regarding the present, maybe it is too early to call?

We seem to be floating in a range of $1950 to $2350.

I think that the odds of breaking up are maybe around 55% and the odds of breaking down are around 45%.

If we break down, then resistant points would be at $1800, $1500, $1200 and $1000. The further down you go in predicting the less likely.

If we break up, then $2600 would be the first resistance and then ATH of $2760 would be the next resistance of continuing upwards into the $3k to $5k range. Maybe it is too early to tell if we are going to break through all three of those ($2350, $2600, $2760), , but we would need to be able to break through all three of the upper resistance points before $3k is again in the cards.

Breaking above $3k will put us in the $3k to $5k territory.. with $4k being pretty likely within that range and $5k a bit more of a stretch.... but it is not even outside of possibilities that we would break down rather than up after reaching $5k (even though the odds seem pretty low concerning an upwards break from $5k). All of these projections depend on how fast we can break through each of the resistance points and whether buy support continues to hold.. which is seeming pretty decent at the moment.

On the other hand, if we break down first, then it just puts off the discussion of upwards territory and likely additional resistance will form causing a delay of the upwards rocket.

So do we want to talk about up? or down? or sideways?

Sideways does not seem too likely at the moment. There is so much trade volume right now, so no matter what we know that there is pretty strong disagreements about the current price - bears want down and bulls want up, and there are pretty decent chances that there are going to be continuing battling in the coming one or more likely two weeks, minimum,... because trade volume does not tend to just disappear all of a sudden...so it would take a minimum of two weeks before the trade volume dries up (but likely much longer than 2 weeks for the trade volume to dry up).

That is strange. I see what you are saying.

I showed you my reference link with bitcoinwisdom, and you showed me your reference with cryptowatch, and they are giving different information regarding the color of the weekly candles.

The bitcoinwisdom candle just closed green a few minutes ago, and it looked like the opening price was $2030, so price would have had to go below $2030 for the candle to turn red.

I don't understand the Cryptowatch weekly candle, because it appears to still be open, but it seems to require $2427 before the weekly candle would turn green. I don't know what time the candle closes or is going to close (because it still appears to be open).

Whenever I discuss these candles, and when I see them discussed, I believe that they are going by midnight GMT...

It is the same with the daily weighted average charts that come out. They seem to close around midnight GMT.

Today's have not posted yet, but frequently dooglus will update soon after midnight GMT for that day's daily weighted average.

I don't see anything wrong with disagreeing or even concluding that some predictions are reasonable or not.

Just note that I almost never talk in terms of certainty with regards to the future. If we are talking about the past, then that is a different story because frequently we can assert more things as certain, once they have past - even though we might find some facts to have more weight and disagree about the significance or relevance of certain facts of the past.

So, take my discussion from a few days ago, once the price meaningfully broke above $2500, it increased the odds considerably that we would make it into the $3k to $5k arena - on the other hand, we all know that nothing is certain, until it happens..

Even at the price point that we were at $2700-ish, I do not recall assigning any kind of exact probabilities to reaching $3k, but I recall asserting that the odds were pretty good.. which if I would have been pressed, I may have asserted 65% or or something like that - which is really good in bitcoinlandia... but we all know that $65 is not the same as 100% and it is not the same as 90%, either...

Anyhow, my selling on the way up remains in very small increments, and I have been waiting for a correction for a long fucking time... finally correction to below $2k is really great for me, personally, - even though I probably have not bought enough BTC. My percentage went from 89% to nearly 92%... but I still have a lot of cash, and I would not mind some additional correction - even though I don't care if it goes up either (actually, better for me, if it goes up.. but I try to set my portfolio to be somewhat neutral in terms of my personal preferences).

I don't know. I give the same advice to anyone that I meet, which is not really advice regarding specifics.. but if they want to get in then they have to devise a strategy that starts right away rather than waiting. That is my advice. Start right away, and tweak along the way. that does not mean that you need to buy right away, but make yourself a plan right away.

On the other hand, people gotta do what they believe is correct based on their own circumstances. and, they also need to 100% take responsibility for their own plan.. whether they agree with my strategy or some variation of my strategy. The more that I know about someone's circumstances will help me to be more specific in giving a suggestion about what they should do, but until then, my suggestions are somewhat generic and based on some hypothetical case of someone who wants to get in right away and has a certain allocated budget and a certain expected cash flow that he is going to allocate to BTC.

In the end, the guy does whatever he believes is correct for his situation. and good luck with that and buy buy buy!!!!!.. .(don't take this last excited exclamation as investment advices)

So? They need to take responsibilty for themselves, and don't rely on information in a interwebs.

Take information from the interwebs with a grain of salt and formulate your own conclusion and do your own due diligence..

I am not taking responsibility for some guy soley relying on something that I say...

Even if the guy directly asks me a question and I answer the question, I am giving my personal opinion.. The guy needs to figure out whether that works for him.... or if he thinks my considerations work for him.

No I don't. I am giving my opinion.Guys can buy, sell, short, hold.. do whatever they like.

You seem to be reading too much into whatever I am saying and trying to suggest that I am doing something other than what I am doing. You want to divert the topic in some kind of lecture of me, which seems to be a bit off topic, and if you want to bring it to PM, that's fine.

(05-28-2017 06:48 PM)Satoshi Wrote:  So how much did you sell now? And why did you sell if you were so sure that we would break $3000 ?

You are mischaracterizing me on an ongoing basis.

Currently I am selling in increments about 1% for every 10% rise in price. I don't really change my strategy too much, except that I try to accumulate, so sometimes I will buy back a bit more than I sold, especially if the price drops are big.

On the other hand, probably my intended plan is to sell more once the price goes above $4k.. that is if the price goes above $4k.. that tentative plan may or may not work.. but I do like to attempt to plan an outline before the market moves there.

These past couple of weeks have been amazing... I kept having to set my sell orders higher and higher and higher.. because the price kept going higher and higher... and I feel pretty good about just sticking with the plan because sometimes in the past, I would deviate from my plan because the market would move way more rapidly than I expected, and I was not prepared. Even though I was still nervous while the price was going up, this time, I did not really need to deviate so much from my plan.. which was largely sticking to about a 1% selling rate for every 10% rise... Once price goes above $4k, I might structure 2% or 3% or even higher for ever 10% rise or maybe figure some other way of framing the issue..

exciting times ahead, boys!!!!

Anyhow, first we are in the $1950 to $2350 price arena.. so let's see which way we go from here first before getting too excited about the next step. One step at a time, but still exciting times in cryptoland and a good time to make some kind of plan to get involved in some way, whether that is going long or short or just looking into the matter.

I tried to send some BTC to an exchange, but, since my Electrum wallet wasn't updated, the miner's fee was too low. And that's how the transaction got stuck. I tried to get it back following this tutorial, but to no avail.

https:[email protected]..ansactions

Can anyone help?

How much fee did you use?

I used to frequently use .00015 BTC as a fee, but recently, I have been having to use much higher fees.. up to .0005 BTC in recent days, for example.

I have also had my transaction stuck for more than 2 days on a couple of occasions, recently.

Sometimes it is better just to wait it out, rather than trying to intervene.

One time, I thought that a transaction got rejected because it showed up in my wallet, so I sent it again, and it ended up going out twice.. luckily the person was honest to send the second one back to me.

Like I just mentioned in the Ethereum thread, the Google Trends analysis for "buy bitcoin" shows that searches for the phrase just peaked at all-time highs this past Thursday the 25th.

Assuming this is new money looking for how to buy, those people are going to need to sign up for exchanges, wait for identity verification, connect a bank account, wire fiat to the exchanges, etc., and that can all take days or weeks (especially if you're something of a whale and need to submit additional personal information to increase your buy/sell limits as well). Plus we're just wrapping up a holiday weekend in the States, so any bank wires that were sent off last Thursday or Friday probably won't be available until later this week.

While I'm a bit worried the bubble just popped and we're in the middle of the dead cat bounce right now, I'm cautiously optimistic that we still have room to grow. I'm not buying any more BTC at the moment, and I have stop losses in place, but I'm excited to see what the next few weeks might bring.

.005BTC just for fees, wow that's a lot.

What's even the point anymore, just wire yourself money - faster and cheaper.
