Its called a pour-over.

If you ask for one at a starbucks they will make one for you for the same price as a regular coffee.

Get the "Finca El Puente" that's on tap (from Honduras). It comes in only one regular sized cup. I guess that would be a "grande" in Starbucks vernacular.

Only $2.50. And get this, they make your actual cup for you. It takes a few minutes actually. They literally will grind the beans, place a filter over a beaker, and then periodically pour very hot water every several seconds. They also have it brewed ready to go and some baristas might assume you're in a hurry and go for that instead so make sure you tell them you want it made from scratch just to be safe (assuming you're willing to wait). They don't mind at all. They just do whatever you prefer, but they don't always ask.

Trust me, this is the best coffee you will probably ever have in the US. The flavors are so vibrant that you won't even need milk/cream/sugar to go along with it. It's basically sex in your mouth.

The owner of Peregrine earned his cred in the coffee game by starting from the bottom. He's done a great service to DC.

Disclaimer: I don't like Starbucks coffee but do visit regularly for gaming reason, you guys have to admit there is no shortage of targets at Starbucks specially the branches close to or at the University campus.

Here is an opener I have used effectively with variations on girls standing in line and on baristas and get a laugh every time.

The sad part is people actually think Starbucks is good quality coffee. They buy the beans to make at home when they could get something much better for the same price.
