Yeah - I read that Satoshi Kanazawa article when it first came out. It is fucked up he got in trouble for it.

I haven't read Heartiste in awhile - but I will check the link out now.

[EDIT] - having read the article some more. I always felt asian women were on average prettier than white women. So - it is interesting to see the research back that up.

[FURTHER EDIT] - mixed races tend to the best looking of all. I have often wondered why - and used to think it was due to a widening of the gene pool. But - another explanation which is more ingenious is the following. Perhaps people of one race who breed with somebody from another tend to be better looking on average? And those higher looks are needed - to overcome any inherent bias they may have to just mating with someone of the same race.

I am guessing it is a combination of the above.

This went a bit longer than I thought, and I also post from the point of view as someone from the U.S. Here are a few opinions.

Education: I think every kid should take at least a year or two off before going to college. Travel, work, military, etc. Do something to broaden your outlook. At 18 you have no perspective other than school and everyone always seemed to be in a rush to get started on a career…and why? Think that’s changing now (finally).

Health Care: I believe everyone should have health insurance, but it should be catastrophic coverage primarily. This allows people that get serious illness to be treated. I also think we should be much less about extending life for the sake of extending life. You get terminal pancreatic cancer; you get enough time to handle your affairs and have some comfort. These ninety thousand dollar drugs that extend life 30 days don’t make sense to me, any more than doing life extending operations on 88 year old grandmothers. Would also like to see more personal accountability. Take care of your health. Also, anyone paying two hundred dollars a month to a smart phone provider, can certainly divert that to their health insurance. Priorities.

Politics: So much wrong here, but I will list two. States need to use the 10th amendment to their full right. You want to start a business, go to Nevada or Arizona instead of California where the red tape will crush you. I think we will see a migration out of poorly run blue states to places like FL, TX and AZ, and in 10 or 20 years the libs won’t have the votes they need to run this country into the ground. Secondly, I think most young people are too apathetic, and need to wake the hell up. The baby boom generation has had it all, and will take it all if you let them. I think the statistic is one baby boomer turns 65 in this country every 8 seconds. Social Security and Medicare are huge sink holes and will lay a ton of debt on you. I’m a Gen X and it’s a small group between the Boomers and Gen Y and I’m screwed, but Gen Y/Millennials should form their own young version of AARP and scare the hell out of these politicians. “We have 85 million voters and we are voting your ass out if you don’t shape up”. Get on this and get the crud out of the system.

Religion: Largely a waste of time. Hundreds of years ago it was used to instill fear and keep the masses in check, and now it’s mostly a crutch for people who need something. While faith/spirituality can be very important to living a full life, these religious groups that hate other groups basically waste their lives and waste my time having to read/deal with it.

Celebrity: Maybe not an unpopular opinion, but why anyone listens to the opinion of these narcissistic, insecure people makes zero sense to me. Most people are sheep and live vicariously through others with some level of fame.

Women: I honestly feel sorry for most of them, at this point in my life. Some deserve what is coming to them for their hateful behavior earlier in life, and some will continue to use and abuse men for their selfish needs. Some are just pitiful, because they can’t think outside the box they came with. Go to any dating site and look at the 35+ crowd to see what I mean. “I’m special and I won’t settle”. Ha. Good for you. When I do get angry is when they screw up the lives of their kids without any thought except for “their happiness”. You made a decision to have kids…do your fricken job and raise them correctly…yes, it’s a job. When they are on their own, you can go back to being a self serving misfit.

Technology: I’m torn on whether it’s the greatest thing of our lives or the worst. We all know the good. Here’s the bad: television and other technology that has made people lazy and entitled, and controlled by the media because they want to be spoon fed. I could rant on this for an hour, but I’m already too long on this post and nobody will read it as a result. The other thing I will bash is MP3 compressed music. Yeah, it’s great to have it be portable, but for anyone who has never listened to an analog recording through a nice warm tube amp…do it. That’s how music is supposed to sound.

Sports: I still like baseball. Unpopular because it’s slow paced and the season is too long. Playoff baseball is must see for me; watching adults play a kids game and really caring. The fact that there is no time clock, and the game isn’t over until the last out, has always felt pure to me.

Energy/Natural Resources: This is a big one. Fossil fuels have been used for just over 100 years and have driven massive growth. We have about 100 years left of crude, but the cost of extraction/refining should start to get brutal in 20 years. Costs will soar. It’s possible your grandchildren (if you have them) may never ride on an airplane unless they are the privileged few. We have alternative energy sources to crude oil, but will suck up the cheap sources and leave the mid-east cooked. There will be an eventual conflict between US and China over Africa someday.

Life: The most important commodity in your life is time. Don’t ever forget that. Do what you like to do, even if it doesn’t pay well. Don't ever chase white picket fences. Get others to work for you, mentor them, give something and get something. Don’t work your whole life planning for a retirement…your whole life should be a semi-retirement.

I think healthy people are living in a fool's paradise. Dying of 'old age' is often one of the worse ways to go.

And with the miseries that old age brings - unhealthy people actually have (over the course of a lifespan) a better quality of life than healthy people.

In the East - people pray for a happy death. And see death as being a stage in life which should be planned for.

That is something - in the West - we are too scared to do.

Yep, I almost said that myself. Let the idiots kill each other off. Evolution at its finest. Survival of the fittest. Only problem is, the people who should probably be getting abortions actually end up having 6 kids (Usually from 5 different fathers, or the fathers have 3 baby momas). But it helps the intelligent people who knock a chick up and realize they are too young to have a child or just don't want a child at all. Sometimes it's just not the right time to have a kid. I've seen too many of my friends have kids at a young age and it totally held them back. Some of them are 25 or 26 still living with their parents because they just can't get ahead.
