You considering between a european luxury sedan and a fullsize American SUV? Those are two polar opposite spectrum vehicles. What's the intended purpose here? You just want a slick looking black vehicle to drive?

I would never own an Audi or anything related to Volkswagen for that matter. They are some of the most unreliable cars on the road and are incredibly expensive to repair if/when something breaks on them. A lot of my friends have owned Volkswagens and Audis and not a single one of them didn't have a myriad of expensive problems with it. If you buy new and get rid of it after a few years I suppose that might be the way to go, or lease it.

GM Fullsize truck/SUV? I fully endorse. I've owned 3 fullsize GM SUV's in my life and loved all of them. My only regret was getting rid of a single one of them. I'd still be driving my '95 Tahoe today if I wasn't young and dumb and got rid of it because I wanted something newer. I currently drive a GMC Yukon Denali of the previous body style and have ~210k miles on it. That 6.2L still runs like a goddamn top and the 6L80 trans shifts like it's brand new. Only serious work I've had to do to it was replace the fuel pump earlier this year which is a common problem part in these vehicles, and replaced my cats (which were cheap). It leaks and burns oil which is not uncommon for a GM V8 with a lot of miles, but I have zero complaints with this truck and plan to get at least another 100k on it.

I don't have a pic but my daily is a 2018 7 Series BMW (smallest diesel engine). Black with black interior, as bland and off-the-rack as it comes. Here where I live, that is a fairly ordinary car and definitely not a head-turner. It is in line with who I am - I would look silly in an Escalade with 24" wheels.

What is the RVF rating?

I was driving one of these today and I'll sum up the overall experience from picking it up to dropping it off. The automatic shifter is lazy even in sport dynamic mode. The volume hand motion control is a gimmick. The massage seats are crap and are barely felt, The black body work picks up dirt like it's being given out for free. I couldn't find the bluetooth so was stuck with the radio. Road noise is excellent, I couldn't hear anything and it does move. I noticed the speedometer hitting 125MPH so thought I should back off. Black seats with white/silver pine striping do look nice, very comfortable car to sit in. I don't think most other road users can tell any BMW apart from any other. 730D 2.0 later engine does have enough power tho, surprising to have a small engine in a large car. The interior itself, other than the aluminium buttons looks too similar to all their other cars. I have the same complaint in the S Class. It is a very relaxing car to drive tho. Car doesn't turn heads, not in the way the new 8 series does. It is a nice car but lacks the presence that the late 90s early 00s 7 series had. That generation is a cool car, the latest one is too sterile and tame and lacking in a soul. Ultimate driving machine? Not even slightly.

Hopefully you're under 6 foot.
Also yes you do need a rollbar, if only for peace of mind.

The engine is great if that's your first car after the driving license (or you intend to lend it to a woman and expect her and the car to come back), otherwise I hope you're in a country where a swap can be homologated for the street.
Not much else to say, get AC and PS (some versions come without).
Check for rust, don't drive them on salty roads.

Doing some reading it seems rollbars need careful selection with seats. I'm under 6 foot but with a helmet even shorter people can have issues.

Definitely keen on an engine swap. Tempting to chuck a turbo on but I like the idea of something non turbo and high revving to thrash the piss out of.

Yes, some high bars go quite far towards the front, I would advise getting one with stays behind the seats, even if it's lower.
Your head must never be able to contact the rollbar whatever happens.

I had this one for the street (hard dog ace) and it was good enough for me despite my height (6'3) :

The bar was not higher than my head in the stock seats (which is what you would want ideally), but I had modified seats, and it sits entirely behind the seats, so both these criteria were fulfilled.

A helmet is only needed on the track, and if you do intend to race it then a full cage is more advisable than just a rollbar.
Also there might be rules regarding what exactly is needed and/or accepted, not only for safety but then pretty much for everything else too.
That's a subject on its own so if that's your goal you should look into the details before starting anything.

A turbo kit is nice, cheap and loads of fun.
Resale value is also pretty good.
I would advise maybe getting to know the car for a couple of months before doing it though.
With the higher power models when the boost comes the rear wheels will definitely get overloaded and you will have to juggle the steering wheel quite a bit - not a problem if you know how to do it (and of course a big part of the fun), the chassis is sound and predictable but the wheelbase is rather short so you need to be able to react quickly.

Also something I forgot before : here all models post-NA were sold with a LSD as standard, however I think it was not the case everywhere in the world so that's something you might need to check too (you do want one, of course).

I fell in love over vacation, got to drive one of these babies that was fully restored:



Ford Model A, they were made from 1927-1931. They're also cheap only about $9-13k for one that's restored and in great shape. Thinking I might sell the Jeep and get one after I move somewhere with a garage.

Pro tip, don't buy a model T unless you're willing to completely re-learn how to drive, they're nothing like a modern car.

What is people's opinion ons Humvee's? Too tryhard or badass? They are rare to see on the road so they get head turns and compliments for sure. Not to mention if you are the off-roading and rugged outdoors adventure type they can be pretty practical. Would you feel and look beta rolling around on this?

My dad restored a Model A when I was a kid. Some of my best memories were of bouncing down the street in that old thing and going to the government liquor store to stand in line for an hour with the other hoser dads and their kids. It always got conversations rolling.

The guy that owned the A also had a few Ts he was working on, said basically it was like a tractor so that sounds about right.

Chatted with a guy in my Jeep club who went to military surplus auctions and actually bought an HMMV and said it was road-legal, not sure how he did that. That's the only one of those I'd want to own anyway since they've got diesel engines, but really poor mileage and lacking a lot of features. HMMVs also don't use a key ignition so you'd want to modify that or it might disappear.
