RE: Is your ride beta? Let me decide
I'm loyal to the Chevy Tahoe/GMC Yukon. The only bad experienceive ever had was with the hybrid.

I love the older two doors. Today I got a Yukon that looks almost exactly like this:

It needs some things done, and the paint is really bad.

My question is, is the Yukon GT decal beta? Should I just get that off there?

Aloha!

RE: Is your ride beta? Let me decide
I'm a GM guy and love those old GMT-400s. These have aged very well in my eyes and a well-kept example looks sharp as hell today, especially among large SUVs that have just become caricatures of themselves with overwrought styling cues. These are blocky, trim, athletic, and intimidating. Compare to a first-generation Expedition, which looks like a hippopotamus wallowing out of a Tanzanian pond.

So I gather yours is an authentic Yukon GT. Definitely keep the decal; part of the character of the vehicle. Buddy of mine used to have a '99 - last year for the 2-door. Tahoe Limiteds and Z71s of this vintage are nice finds as well.

RE: Is your ride beta? Let me decide
I'm planning to buy a new car in the following months, so I'd like to hear your opinion guys. I love to drive, and I regularly do both medium-distance cruises on the highway as well as short-distance drives through the city. I'm aiming for a quality compact (C-segment) with a sporty feel.

My first choice - Audi A3, 2016 facelift of a 2012 model:

[Image: 2016-Audi-A3-Sportback-facelift-front-th...dering.jpg]

1.4L petrol, 150 bhp, 30,000$ + 2,000$ of extra equipment, mostly safety-related. The three-door version will be somewhat cheaper.

Low-budget alternative - the new Renault Megane IV, 2016 model:

1.2L petrol, 130 bhp, 22,000$ + 1,500$ worth of extras.

The Audi should obviously be of superior quality and better to drive. But the new Megane is more appealing in looks and the reviews are pretty good, so it seems it offers a better value for money. I'm ready to pay 8,000$ more for the superior quality of the Audi, but I'm not sure if it really is that much better than the Renault as the price would suggest.

Both will be bloody dull as ditchwater to drive.

If you want a hatch, get a 1 series; at least they drive properly and have the power going to the right end.

I'll consider the 1 series as well. When I visit the dealerships, I'll try and arrange a test drive of all three cars and see how they perform on the road.

Being obssed with cars and material objects is beta. A car won't make you feel better about yourself nor happier. Focus on your skills, knowledge and friendships.

A girlfriend of mine just bought a 911 Turbo. Go for a drive in one, if there is no erection during, then you might be beta.

Probably check your testosterone too.

Nah, I still own a few back at my house in Europe. I used to think the same way as you before I could afford such vehicles but once you get them and the excitement wears off you realise that it's just another car that doesn't eliminate problems such as traffic, parking issues and on top of that you gotta worry about it being damaged or stolen. Now I live in Manhattan and prefer to be chauffered around. Much easier.

Happiness is coming back from a walk around a hot city and sliding into the leather seat behind a V8. You turn the key and within 5 seconds ice cold air is blowing in your face. Look down and underneath the walnut trim a map of the city is telling you where you can go to reach your destination, or keeping you from getting too lost if you just want to see where the road takes you. You tap a couple buttons and find the perfect lumbar position for your back at that moment, another button and the steering wheel telescopes out to meet you. Pick out your favorite Pandora station for driving music, tighten up the air suspension and head for the highway. Right lane drivers not letting you in? No problem, mat it and instant throttle response pops you out in front of them, onto the highway and out to shape your own destiny. The American fucking dream. Beta, my ass.

Gotcha.

I dont drive either, despite the fact that I own a car and a motorcycle.

When I do drive, I prefer it to be to a place outside the city, or strictly for pleasure. We have some good coastal drives here that must be driven to fully experience the awesomeness of modern car tech.

90% of the time, I ride my bicycle, taxi or walk and metro it. Getting my car out of the garage and onto the street takes longer than hailing a cab and just getting there. Let alone traffic and parking too.

My vehicle is what i refer to as the game killer.

Roll up in this baby and whatever game I thought I had will be killled once they get a look at it.

its a 94 mercury villager minivan.

In my defense though i work at home and drive maybe 2k miles per year so it just sits most of the time. plus no payments.

i also have 2 motorcycles so thats something at least.

El Mechanico,
What are your thoughts on SUVs in general?
Also, would you please recommend any to get (down to earth money) from stand point of reliability as well as attraction. It seems that anything decent is over $40K.
Much obliged.

I'm not el mech, but I'll opine.

If talking about SUVs, I think the original X5 is a good bet. It can be had around $10-15k in really good shape for a '99 to '06. They're still classy and baller, just be sure to budget a few grand a year for upkeep. Fly like a Range Rover without the absolutely atrocious long-term reliability and repair costs.

Those early X5s can throw enormous bills at you in a blink of an eye.

The thing about used cars is that used £100,000 cars always have £100,000 car running costs (scale as applicable).
