Great thread for my inner petrolhead. Speaking of beta, I'm propably the worst here with my 'gay' car. A 2005 MINI Cooper S Convertible.

It's pretty much a girly car, I know. But chicks dig it and I love hearing that supercharger whine like a bitch. I did lower it with coilovers though, so speedbumps are a pain. Modded it so it has about 200bhp now. Would love to own something like a 350z or WRX but man, gas prices over here are insane and the MINI runs about 9 kilometers on 1 liter of fuel, when I'm driving like some old lady.. Angry

EDIT: added pics

There's no way in the world I would have purchased a non S. I love this car because of the way it handles and the sweet looks when on coilovers.

It's still a girl's car Big Grin

I recall Hotwheels once referred to the MiniCooper as the "default sugarbaby car."

Laugh3

I'm sure girls do love riding in it though, so it's got that going for it.

I know 80's retro stuff is trendy now, but I always felt like the Countach never went out of style.

Not mine, but I would get it in this colour and model:

oh but you got a convertible... and I won't talk about those wheels Undecided

The car is a 'leftover' from my past LTR.

But like I said, I know it's beta and to man up a bit I've got my motorcycle.

About the wheels, got 3 sets of rims, currently running these.

Anyone ever offered to buy someone's car unsolicited? Tips?

Some 65+ dude in the neighborhood has a pristine looking e39 540i bmw. I'd been looking at them for a while before but they're all beat to shit. I'm willing to bet he's had it since new and it still looks like that

Just use game.

1. Yad stop the old guy when he's walking out of the car.

2. Neg him. Neg the car. Shouldn't you be driving a new 5 series? Those things have horrible timing chain issues.

3. Tell him you'd do him a favor and take the problem off his hands for 500 bucks.

4. Drive away into the sunset.

I think this may work better on a woman than a man who has fastidiously looked after a car...

I remember having a conversation with one of my friends in a busy parking lot. A woman drove a car in that he liked and he approached her and offered $15k straight up for a clear title. It was around $5k lower than even a dealer's offer, but she considered it for about five minutes before saying no. The conversation started like this:

"I love that car, I've always wanted to have one. 15k Cash."

"Really?"

"No lie, I love the lines and I've been looking for a nice used one."

Then she hummed and hawed for a few minutes before saying no. It probably helped that he was an unassuming fat guy in shorts and a tie-dye t-shirt. For that kind of direct game, I can only assume that dressing to kill will set off alarms.

Mine has darker blue paint but the same light blue soft top. About the same shape as this one, a bit of fading on the top.
I love these old giant american sedans. My first was a '79 Lincoln Town Car, then a '76 Mark IV. Cars that look like they either belong to a 90 year old woman or a pimp.

I miss that Mark IV.

@ 3:44 or so even Flav claims the 98 is bulletproof. I'm not going into detail but those cars were my worst nightmare when involved in bad situations in the late 80s early 90s.

Shit you'd think they couldn't handle? They did. Even the Puerto Rican plain clothes cops in the south Bronx were riding them and pursuit. I usually had faster cars but those things had an outerworldly gift to float over potholes etc.

Also those Olds motors put everything to shame as far as duribilty and forgiveness.

Would I want one? No. Would I buy one mint off some old snowbird and commit crimes cause the reaks of illegal activities for 30 years? Hell yeah.

I have history with a bunch of different cars. Those Olds seem to haunt my past.

my ride and daily oil burner

This may be a dumb question and I'm well aware that it's not the highest end car, but do you have any problems driving that car around Puerto Rico? I know in Mexico, it would basically be like walking around with a target on your back.

Secondary car. The spoiler is a little different along with the performance parts that my dad and I put in but it is quite the fun car to drive.

The E39 540i is on my watch list too, it is a classic with many of the benefits of the M5 minus some of the headaches and expense. Approach the guy and see what he'd take for it, you never know. Most likely he isn't selling the car so plan b is to get his name and set a google alert in case something unfortunate crosses his path. I picked up an E46 with 40k miles for $5k in December from a lady whose husband just passed. It is nothing fancy but it was in mint condition and I am not wealthy so it was a great deal for me.

ETA: Pm me your zip code and I'll keep an eye out for it if he puts it up for sale.

Sacrilege!

The E39 M5 is one of the greatest cars ever made.

The 540 is a great car but let's not go overboard!
