Shitty situation, but don't feel guilty or let it change YOUR behaviour.

Now onto the productive side of this event: Could be pretty effective social proof if you and your wing are sitting down with a 2+ set or mixed set and he tells the story about your girlfriend who killed herself over you. Or makes a light-hearted "warning" about your last girl so "be careful falling in love with this guy"

It's natural to feel bad for this girl and your response is normal. The truth is you really don't know what caused her to commit suicide.

When someone does something like that it's usually the result of years of pain. You can't be sure of the exact circumstances involved.

All in all it's a sad situation, feel bad for her and her family.

Ah that sucks. I was suicidal as a teen and my suicidal thoughts were never triggered by any one individual but rather generalizing "all people suck" and "my life will always suck." So I always negatively viewed the forest but didn't consider the trees if that helps

I think it's a healthy instinct to generally try to be a positive influence. And if you notice that this isn't the case, it's a good cause for reflection.

At the same time we need strong boundaries and not get sucked in to the pitfalls of over empathizing. It is not helpful to try to take on the burdens of others.

So I have no advice to you, other than learn what you can from it, in your own way. I don't think it's a good idea to just brush off the experience and quickly move on without reflection - you are taking a good approach to consider how you are influencing your world. You'll have to rely on your own insight to find out your answers though.

I promised an analysis of this troll last night. Though I'd normally just drop the required action, I thought I'd share some of the inner workings of the troll evaluation process. Think of it like that "How Stuff Works" show on the Discovery Channel.

Don't expect this for every troll.

Facts

This guy has a history of subtle game-denialist threads. His technique is rather slick. He posts infrequently, but periodically comes out with a thread--masquerading as his own experience--that shows that "game doesn't work." He was overt in one, but he's taken a subtler tack since.

It started with this one, which earned him a temporary ban:

PUAs, the scums of the society

He then moved on to a couple of day-game denialists threads. At the time, they seemed like plausible newbie difficulties. But, if you examine them--in light of new facts--you can see that he's merely trying to erode the credibility of game, showing that game just gets you into trouble.

Going elder ain't getting me anywhere

Now, there's this new way that game gets you in trouble. A girl commits suicide!!! Game even kills, in other words.

Girl committed suicide...

Futhermore, this guy has never responded to troll allegations, including in this thread, though he was given ample time. He merely evaporates--like a fart in the wind--only to return to subtle trolling in the future.

Verdict

Given that he's set off multiple troll alarms--not only my own, but several members'--there is little doubt that this is a game-denialist troll. He's a rare species, Game-Brings-Trouble Troll, but a troll nonetheless.
