Pocket squares are ridiculously expensive unless you buy the ones on eBay from China.

I'd suggest using a girl's panties instead.

A) they're way cheaper than pocket squares - you can either use a pair left at your place or go find a cool pattern at any number of shops (retail or online)

B) they're edgy and cool conversation piece. I wore a black fitted blazer to an event this past weekend and my GF didn't notice until halfway through the event - it looked that slick and natural. She pretended to be pissed but secretly she thought it was sexy/alpha of me and liked it. They were her panties for disclosure, would be interesting to see how something like this would be received if you were dating and it wasn't the chick's panties. Prolly mostly depends on how alpha you've been, how fun the chick is, and what your relationship is like.

I have good body proportions but I'm short. They say to avoid any horizontal lines on your clothes because it makes you look shorter. So should I use pocket squares?

Those are garbage. They're made of very thin, cheap material that won't hold a proper fold or stay up in the pocket correctly. I've tried them and the quality squares are far superior.

Dalaran, if you're concerned about that just don't use the square fold, which is rather boring anyway. Use a fold with points or a puff like this pic.

Most of the pocket squares at The Tie Bar are around $8. I've bought a bunch of them and they seem to be fine.

RE: On the topic of pocket squares.
Bump for what is an awesome thread.

I'll emphasize what everyone else said above - if you're starting out, AVOID buying pocket squares made in China. They might look great in pictures (that's what the pix are supposed to), but when they arrive, they'll look as shiny as gift wrap, and be rigid as plastic to boot. This goes for eBay, Amazon, Alibaba, etc. I don't care if they claim it's silk. It's not, they're hoping you don't know better or won't ask a refund. I dropped $10 so you don't have to.

If you're starting out, get a white silk square, particularly at your local Nordstrom Rack or Saks Off Fifth.

Pro tip for men's clothing: if you're traveling out of a metro area, it's worth making a short detour to hit an outlet mall...I like a Saks Off Fifth in <redacted location 1h from a metro area>, their regular prices are cheaper than in-city sale prices.

Pro tip 2: you can use a small safety pin from the inside of your pocket to keep your square safe. I've lost a few after taking off my jacket and carrying it around on my arm.
