Even though it was totally hypothetical, speakeasy had a good point. LA is basically a giant sprawl, whereas NYC is a sprawl with a real city in the middle, Manhattan. LA is moving in that direction, 15 years from now it might not be so bad.

Back on topic, in defense of NYC's cost of living and its impact on game. I've made this point before, and here it goes again.

For all of the complaints about the cost of living in NYC, wealth is neutralized to a significant extent. The guy with $100 million doesn't look any different than the guy with $100,000. The $20 million apartment is tucked away up in some old building that every asshole can walk by. The cars? You don't have one, and his are in storage somewhere -- to the girls, its the same thing.

In LA, wealth or the lack of it is blatant. You have to get in your car to go to fucking Starbucks. A $20 million house is practically an estate.

I know guys that live in unbelievably bad "apartments" and have zero trouble pulling girls in NYC. Live in a shack, without a car, in LA and your homeless.

I like both cities. I have not lived in LA, though I've considered it. I've spent tons of time in NYC, though less now than before. Oddly, I do best with LA girls, when I'm in other parts of the country. Some of you will fit in one city a lot better than the other, either because of friends, what you can relate to, or just the general vibe. If your in shape, smart, and reasonably attractive you should be able to fit in with both.

At the very least your doing yourself a disservice not to spend time in both. I've also recommended on the forum before, if your in your early 20s, at least try moving to NYC. The amount of shit and hustling you'll learn spending a year or two there will give you an advantage over other people for the rest of your life. Once your older, its different.

Babelfish, LA isn't really like that with money; first of all, in LA, it's a lot harder to tell who the rich people are based on their clothes. Hell, they could be driving a Prius, and you'd still have no clue of whether they are rich or not. Social class is more fluid in LA than on the East Coast, provided you're above a certain threshold of appearance/demeanor.

People love to flap their gums about driving cool cars here, but it really doesn't matter that much for most girls, only that you have one and that it's decent (eg worth $10k or even $5k). The difference in rents between Manhattan and LA is enough for a decent car. They probably won't even see it until later anyway. The biggest factor in your place is location - if you're more than half an hour away, your odds of keeping in touch are slim. NY is no different in that respect.

I'll throw in my two cents on whole car issue. Since living in LA I've driven the following cars, whether owned, leased, rented or what have you, the reactions they garnered and the pussy it attracted:

- 96 Toyota Celica. Crashed it within one week so who knows.
- The bus. Can't say that helped much
- 00 Audi A4. Didn't change the amount of pussy I got, nor did it garner any crazy reactions.
- 96 Dodge Viper (in 98). People were flocking all over me, people were cheering at me from restaurants, had a girl stop me on Wilshire and tell me how awesome my car is, and so on. I only drove it for a day so can't gauge the pussy level, but reactions were astronomical.
- 99 Porsche Boxster (in 2005). This was a pussy magnet. Several girls talked about how wet they got about the Porsche. Reactions on the street were mild if any. It was worth about 10k. Girls are idiots.
- 3 different BMWs, all brand new. I got more attention from guys. I had red leather in two of them, that when girls actually got into my car they would comment about. Other than that, no help.
- No car/brother's Hyundai Genesis. Most pussy I've ever gotten was in this timeframe. No reactions to the car other than one old Italian guy talking to me about old cars.

So my take from this is if you are going to get a car for purposes of pussy and can't afford one of those flashers (i.e. Viper) that would get you constant attention, then get an old Porsche because girls will think your $10k Boxster is worth a shit ton more. Absent that, maybe just learn to drive stick? Girls are more impressed with that than my car to be honest.

Gotta agree with your assessment on the BMW. BMWs in LA are about are about as common as honda accords are in most other American cities. Don't know why so many dudes buy or lease new ones in LA, but overall it is a waste of money to get one new because it has almost zero pussy magnet effect in LA.

As for your overall assessment, I tend to agree that your car is not going to get much reaction from girls in LA unless is a flashy/expensive type car...but even then, a car in LA doesn't help as much as some people seem to think. If I was still in LA, I would get a used luxury SUV since that would make it easier to transport groups of people around when you are out partying.

Overall, the most important thing for getting laid in LA is your connections, social circle, and looks, as some in this thread have already alluded to.

Prius in LA = E class Benz as far as a "status" in concerned. Especially in Santa Monica.

The major thing is have it be clean and dent free. You only get to that level where it matters if you have a range rover, convertible European car and up. A 3 series BMW could just as well be a Honda accord, people don't care at that level.

-Moved here in 2007.
Car: Jeep Grand Cherokee 99. Fully loaded but still a Jeep. Pulled like mad, chicks didn't care. Rolled up to Katsayu (sp?) on Sunset and would valet it like a Bentley.

-2006 Toyota Corolla (a chicks I drove for a year) Didn't affect pulling chicks but didn't valey anymore.

-Chevy Z-Camaro 1984 T-Tops and red. Got mad attention from guys and girls liked riding in it. Went well with my bad boy vibe. Miss that car actually.

-Bus. Made logistics a nightmare and was only for 3 months. You'd be surprised how man cute latinas are on the bus.

-1994 Lexus LS400 and tan. Had no affect still pulled chicks. Car blew up finally haha.

-In Vegas had a 99 Porsche Boxster black on black. Rented. Panty dropper. Pull up to Valet at Encore on a Saturday night suited up and top down and chicks would wave and smile. Easy opener. Chicks have no clue about porsches unless they come from money. Most don't.

-2009 Porsche 911 black on black. Car was a panty dropper. Rented for 1 week would cruise Sunset and girls would wave me over. 3 definite lays from it.
