What's a good 20 dollar hotel in BKK in sukhumvit?

THC mentions staying close to BTS nana, but elswhere Vacancier Permanente is against that and says the area around BTS thnong lo is better. Any thoughts?


Another member wrote good things about sukhumvit 7 and 8 for cheap places. I'll check that area out.


One concern of mine is I dont' want girls I go on online dates with to be turned off by the environment, and from my experiences in Manila, that can be the case if you're in a red light area.


Sukhumvit seems very mixed in regards to this though. The posh clubs are pretty close to soi cowboy and nana, etc etc. Right? I'm going to hit online extremely hard, so I don't want a bad location to fuck shit up.

Tenerife, try to stay close to terminal21, ie soi 8 to 16 on the even side, soi 9 to 21 odd. Anything lower and you get too close to nana plaza, soi arab etc. and the area becomes too seedy for " good girls". Directrooms.com has a good map and gives you a pricing idea.

Everyone has different tastes in women....I am loving Bogota and Colombia....but as far as non stop 24/7 action....Bangkok is on a whole other level......and a city I will be making a second home of someday....be interested to hear how you compare it to the Dominican Rep. There are a lot of supermarkets on Sukhumvit, all within 5 minutes of any hotel. Also, 7/11 is only marginally more expensive and there is one every 200 to 300 feet.
In terms of sim, choose between dtac and AIS. They can be reloaded via prepaid codes at any 7/11 and have either monthly or pay per txt options.

I've been to Thailand twice, but wouldn't want to make it home. Too many weirdo tourists. I know a bunch of guys that used it to weather it out between contracts, and interestingly enough all ended up in Chang Mai. Might be worth a look fisto.

Regarding sim cards in BKK, whatever you do, do NOT and I repeat, do NOT get True Blue or something like that. When I get there the first time not knowing anything, I bought it and it was the worst sim ever. A money pit. Was putting 300B a day on it and after 2-3 messages, they were all gone. Finally got fed up, talked to the rich girl I was seeing at the time and she took me to her friend's store in MBK and got me the Smart one and it was like night and day. The same 2-300 B were lasting me a long time and I was texting like crazy.

And if you want to stay somewhere far from the hustle and bustle of the night life yet still within easy reach of the party central and of SC, stay on Thong Lor.
