Hey guys looking at getting an upgrade have been using a very basic kindle for the last few months and want to get a new as i have let it fall and the screen has a bad crack. have been looking at the kindle HD Fire as it could act as a tablet and e-reader. So would be interested to hear what e-reader your using and how ya find it?.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab (given to me as a gift), I had to download a couple of freeware readers onto it but I know have a very versatile instrument that can read pretty much any format I download off the internet.

Apparently it can also be used as a phone.

I'd only be interesting in the new side-lit kindle since I have no interest in tablet functionality, but I'll probably hang onto my kindle 3g for a while. I like the free "internet", it's durable, and battery last a long time.

I'm in love with my ipad. I'm going on vacation (where all I really plan to do is snorkel and sit on the beach while reading) and the only thing I'm taking with me besides clothes is my ipad. I got it about 6 months ago but lately it's overtook my laptop for my internet/reading/music/etc... Now that I have a keyboard for it it's really made my laptop more of a backup than anything else.

I use the regular Kindle keyboard myself. When I do upgrade, it will be to the Paperwhite since it still has the graphite screen(no glare) that I want and long battery life. The Kindle Fire HD is basically another tablet to me, and I could just as easily use my old Kindle Fire or iPad for reading if I didn't care about the graphite screen.

Galaxy Note (Phone) It has a 5.5 inch screen and I find it great for all kinds of eBooks (favourite app being FBReader)
Even though I own an iPad, I don't carry it everywhere and you never know when you get free time when you are outside. I use it to read books whenever I am waiting for someone, in restaurants,traveling in cabs etc..

Thanks yea i am just looking for one as i will be travelling soon i don't want one that's going to affect my eyes to bad i was looking at the Kindle paper-white. but thanks for all the advice so far

I just got a PaperWhite. It is good. Very neat screen, with new options of fonts [some sans serif]. The back light makes your lamp dispensable dispensable. It handles more than one dictionary at a time [great fot people who read in more than one language].

But it comes with some downturns: selecting words to look upon [dictionary search for the most part] it is not as easy as it was with a keyboard; the lack of the turn-page button in the left makes it impossible to hold it with just one hand; it's heavier.

I have the regular Kindle, it's about 2 years old. I'm definitely going to upgrade to the PaperWhite when I get some extra cash. The backlight is a huge selling point, as I love to read with all my lights off at night.

I used to have a Kindle keyboard, but i managed to break the screen so I replaced it with a Kindle PaperWhite. The PaperWhite is much easier to use for me since my buss to work goes through several tunnels.

Same here. Made the switch to PW last month and never regretted the choice. Looking up words and highlighting passages is way easier, the screen is sharper, the design better and, of course, the backlight feature make it better than the Kindle Keyboard.

I use the kobo glo which only reads epub books. It was given to me as a christmas gift so there was no choice (if i were to buy one it would be the Kindle PaperWhite). The kobo is glo is cheaper than the Kindle and is disadvantaged as it cant read books from Amazon however it can do everything the Kindle can like changing the font size and type and it has its own backlight, also the battery life is a good 2 months no kidding. I have over 300 books on it since I received it last christmas (a far few pirated) and it along with my laptop and cheap cellphone are the only electronic devices I own. I would highly recommend to anyone to get a E-Reader (just be sure it has a back light).

Just an update i got the Kindle PaperWhite in the end,my first e-reader so i cant compare it to others the backlight is just great my only wish is that i had bought one a long time ago. thanks for all your help

Is it best to convert from pdf to epub format to read on this books? It sounds like with the e-readers that if your zoomed in on a pdf file and move to the next page it zooms out again. I'm far sighted so I would prefer larger font to read with and most of my files so far are PDFs. I can read small print but I like to read larger print for extended times without glasses.

Also how do you get pdfs unto a e reader?

Google calibre. Free book converter. There is also a third party plug in for calibre that defeats the copyright so you can convert 'locked' books. I use it for getting kindle only stuff onto my nook.
