This is the brief statement Marino made. It's possible that the wife already knew about this, and they dealt with it privately. He obviously paid the chick to keep it out of the papers so he could avoid public embarrassment for himself and the family. At the same time, you have to know that women can't keep their mouths shut. This wasn't going to stay buried forever. The chick has friends and family that will obviously want to know who the dad is. And once she dropped that the dad was a celeb/former athlete, the "friend" she told wasn't going to remain loyal because women will gladly trade supposed friendship for a payday, and you know the tabloids are willing to pay for this type of info. And that kid definitely has Dan's face!

Maria Shriver knew WAY before she confronted Arnold that that kid was his. She could see his face in the kid's for years. She rationalized it away. Also, Arnold didn't hit that because she was hot. He hit that because she was convenient - she was right there in the house, and dependent on him for her livelihood. Fucking a Governor/Hollywood star was a big come-up for her. And she has REALLY big titties, which I'm sure Arnie loved.

I think many wives that are married to professional athletes make a bargain with themselves. They trade the lifestyle for the possibility that he's going to bang other chicks occasionally, and as long as they don't get embarrassed by it, they don't ask questions. Many athletes end up divorced shortly after their careers end anyway - she'll hang in as long as the fat checks are going into the bank, and when they stop, they cash out and take as much of his shit as they can. Others, like Marino's wife, weigh staying vs. going. They have 6 kids, and the lifestyle is still great. She can't go out and get anything better, so she accepts the love child so long as the side bitch doesn't fuck with her life and family. She decides to live with him cutting checks to her to take care of the kid.

Guys like Marino that are able to get high-paying media gigs can keep it going longer. He's not home on the weekends, just like when he was playing (most of the guys in media spend the week at home, then fly to NY or LA on Friday to get ready for the Sunday studio gig, then fly home Sunday night/Monday morning). You meet some cutie that works in the studio, you go out for drinks, and have her meet you at the hotel.
