Social capital (the level of trust) in Colombian society is generally low, which is probably linked to the country's history. Maybe that's why your impression was that cheating was so common. Though I think it's probably less common than in the West where cheating is rampant because of other factors.

This just goes to show you that some guy's experiences can vary somewhat from one another, although their experiences almost never vary drastically. Varying drastically would be a guy who is more succcessful in Milan than in the Phillipines or a guy who is more successful in Buenos Aires than in the Dominican Republic. I have never heard anyone honestly make such claims, but I have heard guys say they were more successful in Cali than in Medellin and vice versa. I spent a total of three weeks in Medellin in 2010 and one week in Cali in 2009. The time in Medellin was broken up into a one-week trip in the Summer of 2010 and a two-week trip during the first two weeks of December 2010. I went to Medellin completely cold. During my one-week trip there, I went one day without sex, which was my first day there. I was able to get a girl into my room during the first night, but was unable to close the deal. During my two-week trip there, I went without sex for two days. During those two days, I was about the sickest I have ever been. The hospital sent a doctor to my room (A female doctor. I wasn't able to close that deal either. She didn't even want me to take my shirt off) who wrote me a prescription. I immediately filled the prescription and felt pretty much completely cured within forty-eight hours. During my week in Cali, I got completely shut out. It happens. In all fairness, I was extremely lazy during my trip to Cali which is very uncharactaristic of me. I didn't wake up early to start approaching in the mall and never even made it to the most popular mall, which is located in the Northern part of town. I think I was just very tired from working so much. I arrived in Cali weighing about 170 pounds with very low body fat. I left there at least 10-15 pounds heavier. If that doesn't show how lazy I was there, I don't know what does. I attribute my lack of success in Cali mostly to lazyness and shortage of time spent there, but in any event, I was much more successful in Medellin than in Cali. If I do return to either of those cities (which I probably won't) I will probably go to Cali. As has been said countless times on this forum, second and third tier Colombian cities are probably your best bet nowadays. We have heard less than spectacular things about Bucaramanga (I believe it is considered a second-tier city) from a very credible source. Manizales and Pereira are probably better overall choices nowadays than Medellin and Cali. In any event, I think multiple members have sold me on Lima and I have a strong urge to visit Santiago, Dominican Republic, so I probably won't be returning to any Colombian cities anytime soon.

Good points Merenguero about the relativity of liking a city or not. There are things that are general truths with few exceptions and other truths that only an expert or specialist would know. I am a Colombia expert, so I can say, if your spanish is decent Cali is probably the best city in Colombia for quality and quantity. You cant go wrong with Manizales or Pereira, but the women are Paisas in the end....at least in attitude and that translates to a lower appreciation of a foreigner.
I got laid in Medellin more than in Cali but that was due to logistics, money, nice pad, etc. My first time in Colombia was in Cali and though I stayed in a mediocre youth hostel, I still did ok and the women were more aggresive and friendly.
I am also going to Santiago, DR next year and I can assure you I will do as well a white dude. I cant say the same about Lima, so I will probably go to Paraguay instead after. Many things are relative but as you implied, the forum has shown us many truths about different places.

I move this from a Medellin thread, my experience of Cali:

I liked it much better than Medellin

I was staying in a cheap and comfortable hotel in Granada with good (Italian) food so I didn't even bother to look for a flat there (which is by the way much more difficult to find than in Medellin).

I stayed mainly for the climate and because I always had new girls numbers to work on. Petite girls are kind of round and have huge (fake) asses and boobs.

But Cali to me is just very superficial and hollow.

The main problem is that Cali girls are very provincial. I just didn't meet one interesting girl there after 3 months and they are extremely flakey as well (not as much as in Medellin though). There are much less independent well traveled girls than in Bogotá and the ones who are are much more snobish and closed to foreigners. The nightlife is almost entirely aimed at couples. Girls do not go to clubs unaccompanied. Salsa nights with couchsurfing are pretty good but no high quality girls.

If you're a white guy and likes black girls, you will get them very easily in Cali.

In 10 days in Bogotá, I had a much better social circle than after 3 months in Cali.
The only thing that kept me from going back to Bogotá was the price of the lodging and the climate. I paid like 100 USD a night for a good apartment in Bogotá and I was freezing my ass of at night (huge windows not well isolated). The secret to this town is to have an electrical heater in the bedroom and one in the bathroom...

Granada is walking distance from la Sexta and I partied a lot in La Sexta. There are very cool bars/restaurants with dance floors to go with a girl, sit and drink and dance salsa. Walking late at night in the street can be a bit sketchy but I did it many many times without problems and you can always take a cab (the cheapest taxis on earth, with Romania... except hundred times more polite and friendly than Romanian taxi drivers

Yep in Ciudad Jardin and around there, there are 3 good malls, It is richer and more European than the rest of Cali. I had a rich hot girlfriend there and I stayed at her place in a gated neighborhood for a few weeks when her parents were traveling.

Cali is a weird memory for me, it is quite easy to live there and the climate is cool. There are many things to do and I like the town and people much more than in Medellin. But at the end of my 3 months there, I felt like I had never really had an interesting encounter with anyone... Very much like I feel in the DR. I guess this superficial (drug money) culture is alien to me and I felt very empty after 3 months there. I couldn't wait to get out.

For some guys it can be a deadly trap, especially with the best local flour at 5 USD a gram...

Whereas in Bogotá, Brazil, and Eastern Europe, I connect with people on a much deeper and satisfying level. Yet I imagine some people can be in love with Cali, especially if you're from a latino culture.

Yes I think it has been the most common plastic surgery operation for quite a few years now in Brazil whereas in Colombia it is undoubtedly the boobs (until very recently with the American Playboy magazine kind of influence, big boobs were seen as ugly in Brazil and I know a few girls who went for breast reduction although they did not have huge ones in the first place).

But I have never seen in Brazil girls with such huge protruding round asses (with thin legs and waists) as in Cali and I tend to believe that they are natural because I could not imagine any girl wanting such a freak show (but I'm still pretty naive...)

You must not really be a real party / club guy if you only hit up Menga a few times in 3 months.

Do you remember which clubs you went to in La Sexta and Menga? It isnt all just people sitting down. Clubs like Lolas and Favela have a decent amount of people dancing.

As Wedo pointed out, you cant even mention Salsa and Cali in the same sentence with saying Juanchitos.

Tin Tin Deo is a joke. You want to see a real salsa club, head to Juanchitos and hit up Chango.

Some other places, while not as good as Juanchitos include Las Brisas, Siboney, and El viejo Barril.

The club Wedo mentioned in Menga called Jala Jala is great as well.

To say Tin Tin Deo is not a real salsa club is simply ignorant.

Cali is a city that lives and breathes salsa. Not just contemporary music. Old school rhythms, tradition, legends of the genre.

Tin Tin Deo is one of the most legit places in the city. If you want to see the best dancers in Cali (and therefore the best in Colombia) go there or to Delirio.

For the outsider, it's not the best place for getting smashed and picking up loose women. Most likely you'll just be watching things happen, unless you have very high level latin dance skills.

If you only want to meet women, you're better off in the bigger and/or boozier places that Parcero mentioned.

There is no better time to go to Cali than the Feria if you have a social circle established. One of the best times I have ever had in Cali was during the Calbagata....we had a table next to the street in one of the bars on avenida sexta and the Calbagata went straight down past the bar....we pulled just about every hot chick walking down the street up into the bar and invited them to have a drink with us.

But trying to hook up on the fly around Christmas while rolling solo would be an uphill battle I think. You better pipeline like crazy if you are going to try and pull it off.

Cali is a major dump compared to Medellin and Bogota.
I was surprised how run down it was compared to the other two.

Hint: the roads in Granada look like shit. When the roads in the nicest
area in a city look like crap...tells you something.

On the + side.....they party so much......they don't focus on work
AT ALL.

My guess is that its also much more dangerous. The only place I have
been that was this much of a shithole was Cebu...at least Cebu was
nicer in their posh area.

I DID NOT SEE ONE TOURIST IN CALI....NOT ONE!

Cali would be easier for night game. The girls have much more of

New Years Eve is a big consideration. Everyone sees in the New Year with family. Social circle is indispensable to acquire an invite for a fun place to be before midnight.

If you have a close buddy
a) with family in Cali
b) whose family likes to party
c) who insists on hooking you up
it will make all the difference in the world.

I've seen maybe a post or two about Cali. It doesn't get the attention that other cities in Colombia get so I wanted to open this topic up for discussion.

My biggest question is: It it easier to get women in Cali or Medellin?

Cali is a major dump compared to Medellin and Bogota.
I was surprised how run down it was compared to the other two.

Hint: the roads in Granada look like shit. When the roads in the nicest
area in a city look like crap...tells you something.

On the + side.....they party so much......they don't focus on work
AT ALL.

My guess is that its also much more dangerous. The only place I have
been that was this much of a shithole was Cebu...at least Cebu was
nicer in their posh area.

I DID NOT SEE ONE TOURIST IN CALI....NOT ONE!

Cali would be easier for night game. The girls have much more of
a party attitude.

While I agree that Cebu is a shit hole, I like Cali a lot better and I also agree that Cali has nothing on Bogota or Medellin (besides the women), I still had a decent time there and would definitely consider going back. Did you spend much time outside of Granada, if so what areas did you hit up? If you had gone to San Antonio (walking distance from Granada), I"m sure you would have run into some tourists, mostly of the back packer variety but I noticed there weren't too many in Centro when I walked around there, isn't that a good thing sometimes?

As I've been mentioning on the Colombia threads lately, I'm considering going back there this coming winter, I just can't decide where to stay, Cali is on my short list, mostly because of the women, I'm just not sure if that's enough reason to spend a couple of months there. In a perfect world I'd have Medellin weather and Cali women in the city of Bogota (minus the pollution).

I was only in Cali a few days. Stayed in the granada area. Actually got a death threat from a fellow American who works for DOJ......no joke....long story....stupid drama from a guy who got his panties in a wad over me chasing tail over wanting to hang out with him ahahaha.

I had a local doctor show me the nicer parts of Cali and I was not impressed. For some reason I felt much more "unsafe" in Cali than Cebu....or Manila. Just wanted to pass it along.

I would love to hit Colombia again as well.
