"The Best Birthcontrol in The World"
The Best Birth Control In The World Is For Men

"If I were going to describe the perfect contraceptive, it would go something like this: no babies, no latex, no daily pill to remember, no hormones to interfere with mood or sex drive, no negative health effects whatsoever, and 100 percent effectiveness. The funny thing is, something like that currently exists.

The procedure called RISUG in India (reversible inhibition of sperm under guidance) takes about 15 minutes with a doctor, is effective after about three days, and lasts for 10 or more years. A doctor applies some local anesthetic, makes a small pinhole in the base of the scrotum, reaches in with a pair of very thin forceps, and pulls out the small white vas deferens tube. Then, the doctor injects the polymer gel (called Vasalgel here in the US), pushes the vas deferens back inside, repeats the process for the other vas deferens, puts a Band-Aid over the small hole, and the man is on his way. If this all sounds incredibly simple and inexpensive, that’s because it is. The chemicals themselves cost less than the syringe used to administer them. But the science of what happens next is the really fascinating part.

The two common chemicals — styrene maleic anhydride and dimethyl sulfoxide — form a polymer that thickens over the next 72 hours, much like a pliable epoxy, but the purpose of these chemicals isn’t to harden and block the vas deferens. Instead, the polymer lines the wall of the vas deferens and allows sperm to flow freely down the middle (this prevents any pressure buildup), and because of the polymer’s pattern of negative/positive polarization, the sperm are torn apart through the polyelectrolytic effect. On a molecular level, it’s what supervillains envision will happen when they stick the good guy between two huge magnets and flip the switch.

With one little injection, this non-toxic jelly will sit there for 10+ years without you having to do anything else to not have babies. Set it and forget it. Oh, and when you do decide you want those babies, it only takes one other injection of water and baking soda to flush out the gel, and within two to three months, you’ve got all your healthy sperm again.

The trouble is, most people don’t even know this exists. And if men only need one super-cheap shot every 10 years or more, that’s not something that gets big pharmaceutical companies all fired up, because they’ll make zero money on it (even if it might have the side benefit of, you know, destroying HIV).

If this sounds awesome for you or your loved one, get the word out. Share this article. Or link. Or this link. Or this one. Or this one. Sign this petition. Do something! A revolutionary contraceptive like this needs all the support it can get.

UPDATE: A lot of people are asking to be kept in the loop. So here’s the clinical trial/mailing list sign-up from the Parsemus Foundation to get further information about this procedure’s development. And again, please fill out the short non-spam petition to get the procedure funded and keep buzz going."

RE: "The Best Birthcontrol in The World"
I'm wondering how much I could get away with in terms of charges for the procedure...

Supposedly the injection itself will be cheap, but it reminds me of the joke about the orthopaedic surgeon:

A man's wife goes in for a minor bone op that requires the insertion of a pin.

The doc sends a bill for $1000

The man indignantly calls the doctor, demands to know why it is so expensive, and demands an itemised bill.

So the doc send an itemised bill:
Pin - $1
Knowing how to put the pin in - $999

RE: "The Best Birthcontrol in The World"
According to the wikipedia article, they really know what their most promising markets are:

Quote: It has been patented in India, China, Bangladesh, and the United States.

Besides, if the clinical studies currently conducted show that it´s perfectly reversible and the polymer injected has no negative side effects, this could be a major breakthrough. Also, India already produces many important drugs without license (i.e. generics), in order to provide them to their still rather poor population at affordable prices. While the big western companies keep complaining, the government doesn´t give a shit. It´s possible that the pricing of the new RISUG procedure could also be aimed towards affordability and therefore help to reduce the rapid population growth. First in India, then other hotspots of overpopulation.
There´s also an ecological aspect, it could help to reduce the pollution of waters with female hormones.

It's actually quite an exciting development. However, I don't think that bigpharma will allow this procedure to flourish in western Europe and the states. I might catch on in asia like wild fire though.

Why not just fly to India and get it done? Ticket there is maybe $1500. Stay there for a week at a nice hotel, $100/night. You can probably do it all for $3000. I'm sure procedure is dirt cheap.

RE: "The Best Birthcontrol in The World"
They are looking to start testing in humans this year so they can get approved by the FDA.

I'm on their email list so I got this notification last month.

******
Vasalgel Test Results in Rabbits
All the rabbits in the first study now have Vasalgel long-acting vas deferens male contraceptive. The preliminary results are in: Four months so far, and no living sperm! It's just what we hoped for: There are some fragments (tails, etc.) in some of the samples, indicating that pressure is being let off, but none of the sperm are making it through alive. This polymer really is a remarkable substance!

The rabbits will have it in for two more months; at that point some of them will be extensively examined for safety and microscopic effects, and others will continue on for a full year. We're optimistic enough that we're planning the rest of the formal animal and laboratory studies needed before use in humans, the last step before meeting with FDA and other regulatory authorities about starting the first clinical trial (the aim is to start this year). Keep your fingers crossed!

Get ready: Crowdfunding This Spring
Lots of people have asked how to contribute towards making Vasalgel happen. Many people have mentioned Kickstarter - and we think crowdfunding is a good idea. In fact, we'll be counting on crowdfunding to fund the clinical trial! If you are getting this newsletter, you will be hearing as soon as it happens.

We'd love to use Kickstarter (the biggest crowdfunding platform), but it doesn't accept medical technology projects. However, the second-biggest crowdfunding site, IndieGoGo, will do medical projects and looks pretty good. It's easy to use, because you can sign in with a Facebook account and you can contribute with a credit card or PayPal.

Vasalgel is being developed as a "social venture" company - a hybrid form in which the aim is to be self-supporting (so it doesn't have to always be begging for money), but nobody will be making a killing. Since it's going to cost several million dollars, we'll be looking for program-related investments from foundations and low-interest loans from investors who would like to make a difference, but we'll be relying mostly on crowdfunding (here we come, IndieGoGo!). In the end, Vasalgel making it to market is going to be mostly about men (and women) and how much they want it, take action, and spread the word.

TAKE ACTION: Get signed up and ready to go on IndieGoGo.
Follow Progress on Facebook
Now that the rabbit results are looking so promising and we're on a roll, we'll be sending out progress updates once a month or so. But would you like to hear the news right as it happens? Join Vasalgel on Facebook.

Sincerely,
The Vasalgel™ team

Yeah, don't have your hopes too high for this one. Turns out they shut down trials in India for awhile because the chemicals used were toxic.

I wonder if the chemicals in question are actually toxic - maybe the suppliers of said chemicals cut corners, or have low quality standards. It is India.

RE: "The Best Birthcontrol in The World"
Latest newsletter update is out from the Vasalgel team:
Quote:Finally, Vasalgel rabbit reversal study news!
It took 6 months extra (don't ask -- we don't even want to think about what took so long ... ). But, drum roll please: SPERM ARE FLOWING!

It turns out rabbits are not an easy model for vas-based contraceptive studies (live and learn ... ). Their vas deferens (the tube that sperm swim through) is really fragile, much more so than in humans or even rats. So we spent a lot of time figuring out how to flush out the Vasalgel™ contraceptive for reversal without hurting their vas deferens. After ordering lots of different specialized equipment, the rabbit researcher finally gave it a go last week. Success! The sodium bicarbonate (baking soda solution) really does flush Vasalgel out, and sperm flow was restored. Of course the real test will be in a couple weeks when we get first semen samples. But we're breathing a big sigh of relief.

Timing: How soon to clinical trials?
So with rabbit reversal results in 6 months late, obviously there isn't going to be a clinical trial starting before the end of the year as planned ... but actually, now that we know a lot more about the regulatory process, we're more optimistic than ever about the timeline. We think the first clinical (human) trial can still start in the first half of next year, despite the rabbit reversal delay. (And there's a silver lining to the rabbit delay: It means we have 1 full year of data, instead of 6 months, knowing it kept working in the rabbits.) We've identified what we think is the most direct path to market, and found a great regulatory consultant, and we're busy getting all our ducks (or should that be rabbits?) in a row.

Next step: Monkeys!
The last big step besides lots of planning: A monkey study, and we actually just finalized that plan last week! These aren't your run-of-the-mill monkeys, though -- they're baboons, one of the biggest monkeys and closest species to humans
Add that to the list of uses for baking soda...

I can't wait to see the day when men can reliably control their reproductive choices.

"I'd hate myself if I had that kind of attitude, if I were that weak." - Arnold

This procedure eventually will be given to all new born baby boys.

It will be mandatory and since all health care will be government run - Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare,

all OB-GYNs will be required to perform it on all males born.

The ´antidote´ will only be provided TWICE in a lifetime. You will only be allowed to have TWO children and NO MORE unless you are an exceptional person:

Business - RICH
Art-Arts
Sports
Science

etc..

be careful what ask for - you just might get it

Feminists WILL NOT cheer this. The last thing they want is for men to have more control over reproduction.

when this becomes popular, it will force women to have to behave themselves and become appealing to men......at least until conception occurs.

it will shift the tide of feminism - i suspect that this is why it hasn´t been put out before and the pharmaceutical industry has focued on the female side of things for contraception.

@ kdolo nough with the conspiracy shit... feminist arent blocking the production of male birth control and the cure for cancer... even feminist are subject to the same herd mentality of women.

"Male reproductive choice. Because equality works both ways." <-- awesome slogan for fund raising for this. Plus TONS of women would love to have men take part in birth control. Most women hate taking it, even feminist ones...

Besides wouldnt population control be a good tihng? we have WAY too many people on this planet and it isnt sustainable. And truth be told what have you done that proves to 7 billion people that youre genes are so special we need to pass them on? Im awesome, I know it, most people know it, but the future will be just fine regardless of whether I have kids or not...
