When you say fluent English, but Gujarati mother tongue, do you mean you moved here late in childhood or do you mean Gujarati is what your parents spoke but that you speak English as basically a first language? As in, do you have an accent?

Born here, both parents speak english too but Gujarati was used in the household a lot when we were young due to grandparents and extended family. So I basically learnt both hand in hand.

Only English (native).

I have taken one German course in a classroom and I am using the Pimsleur program. I also practice every day with online programs (duolingo, memrise) and of course as speak as much as possible with German people here.

Good question. Forgotten per say, no, but mixing words between languages, yes. This has been a recurring challenge of mine specially between Italian, Portuguese and Spanish since they are so close and similar. As to forgetting words or even to have your skills in a language erode over time, that can happen, if you don't practice it much. Doesn't matter if it's a newly learned language or one that you've been speaking fluently for a long time. I find myself at times looking for a word in French, that I can't remember since I haven't used it in a long time. Living in an anglosphere environment where French is rarely spoken can result in that.

And by French, I mean proper French, not the bastardized French they speak in Canada. lol I don't mean to sound arrogant or snotty, but that's not really French. When I first moved to Canada as a teen, at the time, I barely spoke any English and we moved to Montreal. Well, let me tell you that it was better for me to talk to people there in my baby very basic English at the time than in French since I couldn't understand what they were talking about and vice versa, they couldn't understand me. Not only words but expressions are also vastly different in either sides of the pond. And as I like to say jokingly, since moving to Canada, I've learned 2 languages, English and Quebecois. So that technically takes my tally to what, 7 languages? lol

VP that is impresive. Makes me question, don't you feel that dominating all those languages gives you like a 'fear' of forgetting 'this one' or 'that one', does it happen to you?

I only speak 3 languages so I don't feel that way, but I fear that if I start learning many more languages (say 2 or 3 more) there might be a chance of that actually happening.

I speak:

English: Native
Spanish: Native
Italian: Advanced (can have a full conversation on most topics with ease and can understand pretty much anything due to the similarities to Spanish)
Mandarin Chinese: Upper Intermediate (can read characters and talk about most topics, although my speaking is not super fast, and I still make tone mistakes with great frequency, though the mistakes are not bad enough to keep people from understanding me
German: Can understand a lot and speak decently, but conversation is fairly limited at the moment, since I haven't spoken it with any regularity for years.
French: Basic speaking and intermediate listening. I used to read basic things in french and know enough about the similarities between French and other Romance languages to understand a fairly good amount.

I'll be trying to improve all of these and trying to add Portuguese to the list in the coming year as I'm living in Beijing, and you see people from all over the world with great regularity

All the native languages needed to travel around Scandinavia and Northern Europe, that is three of them in native or good level and two of them I know a bit better than the basics.

The next step is probably learn some Russian, so that I can travel around the 60th latitude without getting trouble with the natives.

Oh Jesus, here goes.

1 - English - Native speaker, fluent. Minnesotan dialect, more knowledgeable than most Americans when it comes to British English.
2 - Spanish - (Central & South American, I don't know what to do with "vos"). Conversational level in spoken, reading and writing. This summer I plan on reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Spanish.
3 - American Sign Language - Went to a school for deaf and hard of hearing kids K-8. All I can really remember are the alphabet, colors, family members and food.
4 - Latin - Took 2 years in high school because... I had some dumb reason at the time. I know enough to recognize it as Latin when I see it, but can't remember a lick of it to save my life.
5 - Chinese Mandarin - Learning a little more everyday while living in China.
6 - K'iche - I learned some basics a few years ago when living in Guatemala. I still have flashcards I made sitting around somewhere...

I'd really like to further study Mandarin in a university setting instead of getting ad hoc (holy shit, Latin) lessons everyday. Today was, "I have a question!" Tomorrow who knows?

I'm at a point with my Spanish that I can develop further on my own. It's gotten really rusty, but learning Chinese from the ground up has made me realize just how much Spanish I knew. Five years ago I could talk with taxi drivers about local politics, these days I sit around thinking, "Oh shit, what is the word for this?
