Choosing mattress type
Just when I thought I found the end of the internet, I found this, which describes in detail how each mattress type works in regards to sex.

http://www.sleeplikethedead.com/mattress-sex.html

can't seem to edit the poll.

Inner-sprint should have been Inner-SPRING! (which most users probably use)

Haven't tried my new (latex) mattress out in that respect, but I'm glad it gets decent marks. I did have a memory foam mattress and frankly it wasn't great for sex; just didn't feel like you had good leverage, somehow. Had a very firm futon that I liked a lot better for that.

I still think the one of worst places to have sex is on the bed.

I've tried inner springs and some ikea foam or latex. the springs were better

RE: Choosing mattress type
My spring mattress is plenty quiet. What can be obnoxiously loud is the stupid headboard squeaking. Sometimes it gets so annoying that during missionary I grab it as leverage, which hopefully keeps the volume down somewhat for the family living above me.

If you get a spring mattress, look for one with individually pocketed coils. They're much more comfortable than an old-school mattress, and supposedly last longer before the thing starts to sag.
