Female selection and selectivity
This video (not sure if it's been posted before) shows some hamsterisms in action, clear as day. She's not willing to settle for anything, but realises that the 10 is out of her league. When she finally realises that there are no other options, she's forced to settle for the last piece of meat on offer. Check out the other clips in the series as well, they're all pretty interesting

That experiment was cool, though I wish they gave the final results. I take it that most people paired within one or two of their value.

Yeah, this series can be searched for on YouTube and watched in full. It is called the Science of Sex Appeal. I saw it a few years ago on Discovery and remember it being something that opened my eyes. The matching up experiment was great.

Check this clip:

"Men prioritize physical attractiveness, women prioritize status. So clearly if a man has status, it can make a big difference."

It demonstrates how women select for status.

Initially attraction, yes. You have to be congruent, however, or the attractiveness wanes.

I’d rather be far right, than far wrong!

Thus there is no point in going for an LTR unless you've got some major goods to offer the women, otherwise a man is better off pursuing lots and lots of short term flings where a woman won't care about $$$.

Women in the workforce raises the bar for status so much for men, that most men are forced into short term flings.

And then there is the flip side of the equation:

What's the payoff of earning high status if you can get lots of easy sex without busting your ass off?

Being in a relationship with an average American woman is worse than just fucking and chucking them, and that's probably why the average guy today isn't going balls to the wall to make money. The average guy does what he needs to get by and doesn't give a fuck if women approve of him for it.

Dysfunctional culture all around
