Is NYC Metro area worth it if you do not have access to Manhattan?
The Rules Revisited, which is a red pill blog written by a guy aimed at women who remain clueless about what men actually want (Susan Walsh free, as far as I can tell), posted a really interesting article of the ratio of men to women in NYC. While Greenwich Village looks like a Poosy Paradise, it would appear that outside of lower Manhattan and newly gentrified parts of Brooklyn, NYC can often be a sausage fest.

http://www.therulesrevisited.com/2012/12...-city.html

Does this correspond with other people's experiences with NYC? That if you cannot afford a pad in Manhattan below 110th St, that it just isn't worth the expense and difficulty. Are Westchester County and Trenton NJ overflowing with 6.5+s?

I go to Manhattan occasionally, and my impression has been that unless you can afford to live in certain parts of Manhattan, it just isn't worth the sacrifice.

The single most defining characteristic about NYC compared to every other city except for perhaps a few such as London and Paris is that everything is either a subway, cab or busride away. It's the most accessible place in the entire world.

RE: Is NYC Metro area worth it if you do not have access to Manhattan?
I'll say that it's a must to live in lower Manhattan if you're in the NYC metro area. I just spent some time on a business trip to NJ, and the expense of driving into the city is ridiculous (if you can't/don't want to use the trains). $13 toll for the tunnel. $7/each way on the NJ turnpike, $40 parking in NYC = $70 just to reach the city. Before any cover charges/etc.

Whereas the ratios in NYC are very good, and the quality is noticeable, keep in mind that with 1 million, even a 60-40 ratio means plenty of competition. Though NYC men, on average, are not as good looking as California or Arizona. People here are much skinnier, and don't seem to work out as much. For some reason, everyone likes to wear black too--not really my thing.

NYC is a place people either love or hate. Other than the women, I personally dislike NYC quite a bit. It's dirty, cold in the winter, and way too congested. There's a HUGE rich/poor divide, and that's means people in general are more on guard. A woman that you cold approach doesn't know if you're a hedge fund manager, or a busboy, unless you DHV and show value very early on. In most places in the USA, the guy who parks your car is someone you might party with later on. In NYC, the guy who parks your car doesn't speak English.

IMO you have to live in Lower Manhattan or 20 mins by subway to do really well in New York. There.... all the night life, day and online game opportunities are available to you 24/7.

I lived one year in Forest Hills, Queens which is about 40 minutes away and it was not a very good year.

The issue is that if you want an affordable place, and not have to live with a ton of roommates, you need to live in the outer boroughs. You may be able to find something WAY uptown, but that's not an option for everyone depending on the demographics in the neighborhoods. I grew up in Manhattan, but since college have lived WAY out in Queens. It's a chore coming in to Manhattan and trooping back out here in the wee hours, but Manhattan is the place to go out. For me, Forest Hills would be a DREAM in terms of the trip to Manhattan. I've always lived in Jamaica and further, so we're talking two-fare, subway to the last stop, then a bus. The only benefit I ever saw to having a girlfriend is having someone in Manhattan who I could crash to avoid the late-night ride to Queens...HA HA!

RE: Is NYC Metro area worth it if you do not have access to Manhattan?
It goes without saying that Manhattan is the prime location. Just by sheer density, diversity, and the types of people it attracts, there are going to be an abundance of quality single women. I live in Brooklyn but hang in Manhattan virtually all of the time I hang out for this reason.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn and I've seen some areas change drastically due to gentrification and development. Some neighborhoods have tons of cool bars and places to hang out. I usually venture to Manhattan, however, because of the types of women. The quality is incomparable in Manhattan. You will find an occassional gem in Brooklyn but it's a preponderance of hipster chix who are fuckable but not special.

Here are the neighborhoods to scope:
Fort Greene, Park Slope, Williamsburg, Bushwick. Don't waste your time in Brooklyn Heights despite its color coding on the link that beta_plus provided. It's the lamest of the group and there isn't anything going on.

You could still just hang around Flushing for example and game asian girls all day. NYC has better logistics than many major cities. Of course foe the money you pay in NYC for the "suburban" areas you could get a central location in many other cities.

What Eros said. I love the neighborhood feel of western Brooklyn hoods but it's worth it to live in Manhattan if you can afford it, particularly the East Village. Day game gold mine. Logistical heaven.

If money is an issue Bushwick near an L-Train stop is your best bet IMHO.

The biggest problem you will face is a pissed off taxi driver that does not want to take you and the girl you just picked up back to Bushwick late at night. They are required by law to take you so don't tell the taxi driver where you are going until you are inside the cab with the doors closed.

IMO living in Manhattan is vastly overrated. As many young chicks now live in Brooklyn and for example- if you live in Battery Park and the girl lives upper east side you are nowhere close.

I've wondered this myself. The hot women mostly live in manhattan and don't think they would be interested in dating a guy who lived in Hoboken. Unless someone else provides evidence to the contrary.

How is this any different from any other major city? Yes, most of the super hotties will live in Manhattan. But you'll find all the people attending uni, waiting tables and in health care (all a majority of women) living in other boroughs.

Well I can speak for philly in that girls who live in the city will date guys who live in the surrounding suburbs and that a lot of the quality chicks live outside the city. I live within the city limits and have dated girls from conshohocken, gladwyne, wayne etc. Since most people here have cars anything within 25 miles is fair game.

Two of my best friends live in long island have said that getting a hottie in manhattan is tough for them and that most of the quality is there. I'm sure there are plenty of good looking girls in brooklyn etc just not as much as manhattan.

Not too off-topic-- but baffled by the reports of hotchix in Manhattan, I emailed Paul Janka and asked how they could afford to live there. He actually responded and said their fathers subsidize the rent.

Men, I have lived in the same part of Brooklyn my entire life, zip code 11209.

Manhattan is EXTREMELY expensive, a small studio in lower manhattan is going to be $1800+

In my experience, the way to go in Manhattan is with roommates. The upper east side is actually pretty affordable, I have found 3 bedrooms for $2,100 to $2800.

Parts of Brooklyn and Queen are half the price of Manhattan if you know where to look. My rent is $1500 and I split with another dude. We actually have a 3rd bedroom that is vacant, anyone want to crash PM me...

I would say on a good sat night in manhattan 75% of the women don't live there unless they are in dorms.

For years my friends would always take the 35 minute train ride into the city, then we will cab it back when we are wasted.

A good part for Queens would be Astoria, cheaper than Manhattan, but still pretty expensive...same with Hoboken

If you are looking to move here let me know, I always have a friend renting a bedroom every once in a while....

How much for one bedroom in Soho?

Any buildings you recommend?

I may post up there this summer for a month.

Soho? You are competing with Lady Gaga, and Robert Deniro...Probably 3-10K easy. lol

You coming up for vacation? or work?

The landlords are also super strict in Manhattan.....sometimes asking 3-4 months downpayment.

And forget about bringing a car to Soho.

For a guy like me who is earning $60-75K, I would only be able to swing the upper east side. The upper east side has a ton of bars, and you can get to soho in 10 minutes.

BTW guys, NYC is really good in early June but then a lot of the action moves to either the Hamptons or the Jersey Shore for the bulk of the summer.

If we did a meetup in Seaside Heights or Belmar it would be insane, some of the easiest women I have ever met in my life.....It's "Snooki's" X 10.....

I would recommend mon-thurs partying in manhattan, then for the weekends hitting the beaches...

Dewey Beach in Delaware is also insane, surprised none of the DC guys ever mentioned it.....

I have not problem with that, but I want to stay for a month. Thoughts?

I never thought about Upper East Side. Are there any advantages besides cost?

@G Manifesto

Since you can afford it, Soho would be great. It's kind of the "fashion" area where you will find stores like the Kardashian's "Dash" or crap like that. I think it's in the top 5 for most expensive zip codes for Manhattan, the good thing about Soho is that you can go anywhere from there.

Soho of course stands for (South of Houston street), for years I would walk quickly through soho to get above Houston street and hit the village. The village is like Bourdon street, you might not bang models, but there is a ton of action going on.

If you are only going for a month, I would probably just try to use airbnb or craigslist, although I can't see some of those landlords actually using craigs list.

You might need to check the big brokers like Corcoran, Halstead, Sotheby's etc etc for the real top of the line apartments. Or maybe even just a hotel.

Soho is a 5 second walk to the village, and a 10 minute or short can ride to the Meatpacking/Gaansvort area that for some reason everyone on this forum is in love with.

Like I said, if you are making under $100K like I am, you are wasting your time even reading this. I have walked through soho a million times and just looked inside the store windows while going to hit on NYU girls in the village. Never really hung out there for the night.

Upper east side is cool because it's affordable, a TON of bars that are little more upscale than the village, and close to central park for running. Upper east side, and midtown east get a lot of the yuppie, afterwork, finance crowd.

I loved lower Manhattan too, GW Village near NYU, SoHo, NoHo, NoLita and all the nearby areas were really nice, and had a pretty artsy vibe and great women. But yes.. it's very expensive.
