I hear you but he did start directing in the early 70s. What's incredible is that he's made better films as time went on. Other than the grand master Kubrick, I can't really think of anyone else who is/was a great director in their old age.

Just wondering, what do you or any other Tarantino fan think his best film is? For me it's Pulp Fiction, pretty hard to top that although the Kill Bill series isn't too far behind.

Pulp Fiction is tops for me as well. It's one of those movies that was perfect for its time. The whole idea of taking normally marginal characters and giving them stories, the non-linear narrative, the dialogue, it was all very apropos of the 90s. I spent a lot of time with friends talking about the ins and outs of that movie. People don't seem to experience movies that way anymore.

Also, the scene when Travolta and Uma Thurman go to dinner is pretty perfect.

So yeah I really enjoyed pulp fiction and kill bill and hope that he's closer to those with his latest. Although I have to admit that the main reason I liked KB so much was the martial arts stuff

I can see why Roissy and the white nationalists are terrified. What's the world coming to when you can't rape and sell a black man's wife to a new master without him trying to kill you?

This is not the America I was born in, and it's sure as hell not the America I want to die in.

I just finished seeing Django Unchained. It was really good. Along with The Master this is definitely one of the best movies of the year and definitely one of Tarantino's best. It's really funny. Tarantino goes all out with the humor and satire. The film is also unbelievably violent even by Tarantino standards. Two ladies in front of me got up and left during the fight scene where Di Caprio's character Candie is introduced. The hipster pussy next to me covered his face for a few scenes including the one mentioned above. Definitely go out and see this! You'll laugh your ass off.

I generally really like Tarantino's movies, especially Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Basterds, so I have high expectations of this one. Still, I've always thought that the use of gore in his movies is excessive and serves no purpose other than to "shock the audience".

Did anyone see Sukiyaki Western Django (2007). It's a Japanese spaghetti western made by Tarantino (he's even acting in it.) I only saw the first 15 minutes of it, still need to see the rest.

I've seen bits and pieces of it, but never the whole film in one sitting. It's kind of crazy! Just like with his "Planet Terror/Death Proof" films, every now and then Q likes to just have fun. Even if they aren't great films, they're just plain fun entertainment.

I just watched it this afternoon. It was a pretty weird over the top movie. I mean lots of crazy philosophic dialogue or out of place dialogue, Japanese cowboys ?? Quentins role was just plain idiotic.

Won't recommend it to be honest and I'm usually a big fan of his work. If you're curious and have an hour and a half to kill. Here it is: http://isohunt.com/torrents/?ihq=sukiyaki+western

Just finished seeing Django Unchained...and I highly recommend it. I was surprised by how good it was.

This is one of Tarantino's best films--a genuine tour de force.

I'm not a Tarantino fan (had to walk out of Inglourious basterds), but I did enjoy Django. I was stunned Jamie foxx could play such a poignant leading role, and DiCaprio absolutely owned his role. It was long but never boring. I recommend as well

Tarantino makes decadent shit. I spent the 90s trying to be down with cool, ironic nihilism and these days I just ignore it.

It's kind of like someone with great talent but in some ways limited soul. Why all the violence? Not a rhetorical question. Really, what exactly makes that necessary? If the answer is "just because it gets him off" , it's a bad answer.

I agree. Tarantino does have innate talent and a depth of craft and knowledge of the cinema. It comes across in the segments of his films, like Pulp Fiction, which aren't scenes of violence and carnage but are instead just engaging dialogues between characters. Like the Travolta/Thurman scene mentioned.

But he chooses to make trashy slasher films. Can't say I have much interest in seeing this.

I literally just left the theater, and I have nothing but good things to say. The ending was a bit corny (but still pleasing) and some of the violence was over the top, but I can't give this film anything less than a 9/10. Very well done.

It was also much funnier than I had anticipated.

Tarantino seems to be on a "rewrite history where the bad guys lose and good guys win" streak. At least he made one of the protagonists in this film a German (and a white) so as not to be accused of demonizing any one group.

I liked it, and thought it was very entertaining like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Inglorious Bastards. His sweet spot seems to be films that don't take themselves too seriously but still have engaging story lines, intentionally obtuse but clever dialogue, and old fashioned filmmaking pizzaz.

So now that the movie us out and people can't judge it on the trailer alone does it show any sign of Tarantino having a cuckold fetish as heartiste pronounced it?

He discusses this in his Playboy Interview. He simply loves violence, and he's unashamed to admit that. He also discusses how he revises history:

Tarantino said he gets paid $25 Million a film! This might be his last film. I sure hope not though.

He means cuckold as in the [perceived ] self inflicted humiliation and emasculation (stripping of power). And that any white going to see the film is willfully participating in self flagellation.

But how was it, I've not yet had time?
It worth the hype?

Amusing film but not in the same league as Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs. I think it would just have been looked at as a dark comedy/fantasy film if not surrounded by Foxx's racist rhetoric and a few far lefties arguing the film should be taken as a historically accurate, which it clearly isn't (didn't even get the start date of the Civil War correct).
