The girls just looked healthier. They didn't shove sugar in their faces constantly (contrary to song's title) and being on antidepressants was unheard of.

In huge swaths of the country, people left their car keys in their ignitions at the end of the day and their front doors unlocked at all times.

America resembled a functioning civilization back then. People were pretty much on the same page.

Deep down, I think most people know Amerikwa has turned into a sewer. And it was no accident. Men, you know how to use Google. Read about the Frankfurt School. Horkheimer, Adorno, Marcuse. "The Authoritarian Personality." Friedan and Steinem were Johnny-come-latelys piggybacking on these Marxists who came over from Germany to Columbia U in the 1930s.

America's cultural destruction was premeditated and in the works for YEARS. Nothing in politics is an accident.

In my first year of college in 1972, I attended a seminar as part of a liberal arts course requirement. The seminar happened to include a group of feminist poets. This was my first exposure to feminism, and my first encounter with women who actually expressed angry feelings. In fact, they were angry at everything. I took the seminar with some friends who grew up on the farm and they were totally shocked because women just didn’t act like this. At that time these women were considered to be freaks, but now they would be considered mainstream because they succeeded in spreading their poison. At that time most women still went to college to find a good husband so they were still pretty sweet. I also remember some wild parties back then. I was once invited to a beer keg party and the poet Allen Ginsberg was there. Towards the end of the party when everyone was wasted, he took all his clothes off and sat in the living room in lotus position and started Swiss yodeling. In a few minutes, everyone in the house on both stories were yodeling together in perfect harmony – “ oh dah ley hi hooo”. It was a relaxing conclusion. People seem to be more uptight today and the sense of optimism and fun is gone. The thing I notice the most is that Americans have lost a lot of freedom and are becoming paranoid and fearful of everything, easily frightened by the terrorism boogieman. I don’t see things moving in a positive direction.

Great thread.

My own take is I think I'd be MUCH, MUCH happier in the 60s if that Vietnam bullshit didn't happen. But I think women would be a relatively small factor in that happiness. To me it's more about the society that existed then. I'd love to be around when kids used to hitchhike on the Pacific Coast Highway and take acid like it was aspirin and throw massive parties on the beach every weekend. I'd love to be in California before this place turned into a police state; go party on the Sunset Strip when this place was teeming with hippies and slutty chicks, go watch the Doors play every weekend at the Whiskey (ironically I live a block from the Whiskey now, the bands are horrible) Now it's all touristy and lame.

I've talked to my dad a lot about the 60s. He's about as classic 60s as they come. He moved to California from Florida since the surf was better and then got drafted to Vietnam. He's told me some pretty awesome stories about what life was like back then (except the Vietnam part).

I hate cell phones and I'd be perfectly happy without a computer (but then that would mean no RVF ) The 60s were a time when the younger generation were questioning and rejecting the ideals of the 50s: settling down with a wife, house, 2 car garage, materialism and comfort being the ideal existence.

But don't get any false notions about what the women were like. Even though they weren't glued to social media doesn't mean they were angels. Remember this is when bra burning started and women cast off their traditional roles. This is the original age of the empowered woman. These liberal sluts would have needed as much game as todays harpies, just a DIFFERENT game. These women had options, and I don't think many of them were wife material. As long as you knew this back then, I think it'd be a fucking JOYRIDE to be a player in the 60s.

But yeah as someone else mentioned, I hate hairy snatches.

According to the newspaper, he was just declaring the gun at the border. It makes one wonder whether it's a good idea to declare anything at the borders since you are going out of your way to create trouble for yourself. Mexico isn't too bad. I keep a low profile.

Careful there. Feminists were utter freaks in the 1960s. (Well, they always have been. But you know what I mean.)

Hell, cultural Marxism "started" in the friggin 1930s but it didn't much matter for the average man because it was sequestered in small circles.

Outside the Berkeley campus and a few other Bay Area hot spots, California wasn't this bra-burning liberal hotbed it's made out to be. And remember, that's just California. Don't forget the rest of the country.

Interesting. My dad has watched this show almost every day religiously since the 70s. I should ask him when I see him next week what changes he's noticed. I always thought Bob Barker was a class act. Loved his voice and presence. You can tell the dude was a lady's man during L.A.'s golden era.

As for the topic of this thread, I'm really not a dude that likes romanticizing the past. I think when you do that, you miss out on the positives about the era you are living in now. There's definitely some things I liked about women back then, more feminine, no tramp stamps, bizarre piercings or Skrillex hair, that's a given. 40 years from now, people will be talking about how great it was in the 2010s. I guarantee you. I know we talk about how smart phones have fucked things up, but you know what, I wouldn't want to be without them. Anyone in the 1960s would be floored if they knew people would have small computers in their pockets that could instantly give you virtually ANY information you needed on the spot, not to mention navigate you when you're lost and let you listen to any song you want. And on top of that let you talk and send messages to people anywhere on the planet for cheap. Plus the cars started getting really ugly moving into the 70s.

These girls look so innocent and carefree, i bet they really were carefree in person (or naive/ignorant?) for all the education that empowered feminists crave, to me they just look older and more whacked out.
