As someone who's lived in Australia the Gold coast dominates Syndney for surf.

One-two fish tacos and carne Asada burritos are where it's at.

I've lived in San Diego now for 11 years, so I really consider it my home. Plus, I have some really great friends (and family) here

The biggest advantage to San Diego is that it is so liveable (well, maybe not quite as liveable if you don't have money now, but after years of struggle I've got a pretty good bankroll these days)

That said, I do feel at times that I have outgrown it. Because I make passive income, I have a lot of time to daygame, and I get frustrated because there are just not a lot of places where you see a lot of women walking about. The biggest downside IMO to being such a car-driven city (no pun intended)

I've never been overly concerned with the ratio of men to women. Most of the men are chumps anyway. I'm pretty good at just filtering them out

I still love going to the Gaslamp, but we need some new spots down there. Searsucker has been my go-to spot for the last two and a half years, but I'm not seeing the quality in there that I did before. (I'm there all the time.... I'm the tall guy at the bar normally wearing a suit) Fluxx has gone downhill, Bassmnt is decent but not outstanding, and I try to avoid Stingaree whenever possible. Terrible crowd IMO. That's the place that really needs a makeover, not because of the decor or anything, but just to get a new crowd in there

I feel like SD's nightlife was at its peak around 2006-07 when the rooftop places like Stingaree, the Ivy Hotel, and Hard Rock opened. (Actually, my favorite spot for a couple of years was the J Bar at the Hotel Solamar) But the novelty has worn off for all them

**I mentioned earlier I'm the guy in the suit at Searsucker. My buddies give me a lot of crap about it, but I pay no attention to them because they have virtually negative style. It generally gets good attention, although occasionally girls will ask me if I just got off work or something

From the way G talks, I'm going to have to spend more time at the Del Mar Racetrack next summer. Opening Day is my favorite day of the entire year, but that's really the only time I generally go. Actually, this year, I had more fun at the Polo Opening Day. It seems to be getting bigger each year

I am tempted to spend January-March in Miami... something I've always thought about doing

Yeah, San Diego is easy to outgrow.

Like I have said on here many times, it is a great place for a kid in their 20's.

But the more Game and more Dough you have, your rewards are going to be higher elsewhere.

However, think about it; there is not a single bar or club in San Diego that has more girls than guys in it, right?

One of the problems is the nightlife sucks so bad that the clubs could never have a tough door.

In cities with good nightlife, you need girls with you to get in.

In San Diego a pack of 5 guys with Zero girls can walk straight into a club no problem.

Try that at 1Oak in NYC.

You will get laughed all the way back to Zanesville with Extra Guac on your face.

Yeah, again, San Diego's nightlife just blows.

I mean lets face it, it's not like the Fashion Crowd from Monaco and Milan is flying to San Diego to party.

It is more like the average joe crowd from D Grade Cities and places like Zanesville flies there to party.

That is one problem with San Diego: all the people there are from worse cities.

The other problem is that you have a humongous city geographically, with 3 million people (or what ever they claim is the population) and only two streets in the entire city with significant nightlife. It boggles the mind.

Compare that to Montreal, a tiny city. Yet it has probably 10 + streets to go out on.

Suit at Searsucker is a great strategy. But you are right, Searsucker lost it's luster (if it ever really had any).

I consider that the only place in that city that has kind of a "Big City Feel" to hit.

But the ratio at Searsucker (being in San Diego) is always poor. Easy to overcome because San Diego guys are soft competition, but always poor ratio.

Other cities have 20-40 places like this.

Even better since I have retired from the place and vacated my #1 Spot I held there for years.

Funnily enough I actually spent 6 months in Sydney last year and to be honest, hated it.

-$10usd for a 440ml beer in a local bar, $4usd for a bottle of water from a 7/11. $50usd for a generic restaurant dinner (think TGI Fridays level). Prices there are out of control
- Bouncers/police even worse than California. If you appear drunk in anyway in the nightclubs you'll get thrown out by the RSAs (basically guys who watch to make sure nobody is drunk in a bar...crazy)
- Full of really masculine Australian girls. Girls chugging pints of beer and going 'oi mate' is just not attractive
- It's the arse end of nowhere in the world, super long haul flights from anywhere thats not New Zealand or Bali.

My main point on San Diego anyway was just that it really isn't deserving of all this hate. If you look at it for what it is - an overgrown beach town thats great fun for 20somethings then it's one of the top spots in the U.S., in my opinion. Not many towns have the same combination of year round weather, beaches, surf and girls.

It doesn't stack up to Miami or NYC or Vegas in terms of nightlife or talent...but you shouldn't be going there expecting that anyway.

Go to San Diego if you want to chill on a beach smoking weed, surfing and chasing surfer girls. Go to NYC or Miami if you wanna live in a big city, make bank and chase models in megaclubs. Something for eveyone in the audience

I left Oz at the end of 2012, for reference. Think the exchange was $1.1usd to $1aud or so at that time. My Aussie friends told me inflation had been massively out of control for the 5 years previous to this too thanks to the commodities boom. Which resulted in the $30usd club entry and $15usd beers in average clubs... Plus ridiculous food, rent etc costs.

Bondi, Coogee and Manly were nice but I just preferred PB and Mission beach in San Diego to be honest. The rip currents were fairly lethal in Oz too, always had to be a bit on edge which I didnt like.

Didn't go to Hugo's Lounge (King's Cross is very bogan-y these days) but did go to the 'coolest' clubs from the time I was there - The Ivy's pool parties, Chinese Laundry etc. Not bad clubs at all, just not amazing. Pretty standard for any major city worldwide.

RSAs and police have gotten out of control because, I'm told, in Aussie law now if someone goes off and kills themselves while hammered drunk it's the barman who served him the last drink's responsibility. So they're really paranoid about it. To the stage where they'll refuse to serve you more than 4 drinks in a row without serving you a pint of water in most bars - it's even more nannystate than California!

I suppose 'hate' might have been too strong a word, it is a nice city. It's just the location, the prices and the women are all inferior to San Diego so I kept comparing it to there in my mind. Sydney is a second tier city at top tier prices, that was my main complaint. I didn't like paying prices higher than in NYC for an experience basically similar to San Diego.

Plus the awful masculine Aussie girls. Can't complain about them enough!

When I was in San Diego it was still fully legal to drink in public in PB. So my memory of PB is every Saturday hitting the beach, throwing a rugby ball around with my mates, drinking beers and hitting on girls in bikinis. Plus July 4th:



500,000 people getting hammered on the beach. Spectacular. Wandering from tent to tent, playing my 'hey guys I'm IRISH!!' card and doing beer bongs, being a minor celebrity for being Irish etc. Doesn't get much better than that in your 20s.

Just spent last Friday in San Diego, stayed in North Park, it was for a wedding at the Lafayette hotel. The wedding was pretty lame and I dipped out around 11 to survey the scene.

Bartender told me to hit up 30th street and thats what I did.

Rolled around to different spots, but did not like the ratios or vibes in any of them.

'Coin-op' and ‘The Office’ were packed but filled with grown up children. I was getting frustrated.

Then a couple blocks down I spotted a place with big open windows and a few sets of girls who were alone. The place was called ‘waypoint public’.

I spoke to the bartender, told him I was from out of town and wanted his opinion on the best local beers. He had me sample a few that were made right in the neighborhood. Then we bonded a bit because he is from NY…Buffalo though…no wonder he left.

After pouring my unbelievably fresh and delicious beer (fuck, this was a very fresh beer, it tasted alive) I took it and walked over to a set of girls sitting by the window. And just stood there.

They kept looking at themselves and back at me and back again with an ‘oh my god, is this happening’ look. It was pretty funny.

I introduced myself and said I was visiting and wanted to talk to some real San Diegans. They obliged and we discussed the dating scene. They mentioned that most people they knew, including themselves, met through work. Bar approaches like I just made were very rare.

I had the same conversation with 3 other sets of girls…I like this place by the way, nowhere else did I see pairs of ladies who were alone..they were all very friendly and receptive to my approach…and they all said that most people were meeting through the workplace. Interesting.

Anyway, no bang from the bar that night but I went back to the hotel where a gf of mine was also staying and hung out at the bar getting tips on what to see in Baja.

Next day, I drove down to Baja and had a serious fucking adventure with one of my pretty ladies…that story is for another time.

So: San Diego, North Park, 30th street, Waypoint Public…ok in my book.

I grew up in sd. Lived there for 27 years and I really couldn't agree more with what's been said here. And because of that I moved to NYC about 7 months ago. Almost all my lays came from social circle game and for the most part it's just easier and more advantageous to lock up a hottie and party with friends.

Pb deserves the hate it gets but I will say it is an amazing spot to day drink.

I couldn't stand downtown because I'm not a club guy and the clubs pretty much suck down there. And there are no cool bars at all.

North park is the spot, but still not great for pick up. 30th and university is where u wanna go, lots of cool bars and restaurants. If I ever moved back (which I never, ever will) I'd live off Adams ave close to north park, it's similar to the 30th and university scene but more of a hidden gem, and the hipsters are more tolerable.

It truly is a city of mediocrity and I had to get out, I was becoming a stoner alcoholic. I don't surf and I hate hiking which meant all I did was workout, go to work, get wasted, repeat. I knew I was drowning but had no incentive to change my life because even pulling in a meager 50k I could afford anything and everything I wanted out of life (including all the weed and blow one could ask for) just went back for the first time and nothing had changed.

As far as gaming goes I found it very tuff. Almost everybody rolls in groups (including myself) you almost never see girls out by themselves and when they are their stone cold sober cuz they have to drive home after.

People in NYC ask me why I left and I have a stock answer, great weather, awesome Mexican food, but boring as fuck.
