Latin America for three months...thoughts?
Hey all, greetings from south korea! been reading some stuff on this forum before today i finally had the chance to register. i am a rising sophomore in college and currently in a soldier finishing up my military service. i am officially discharged next apil and basically have 5 months until starting school in september.

ive been taking online spanish classes in the army and plan to go to latin america for three months...Ive looked thru all the SA, LA threads but cant really decide on a place. Where would be a good/safe place to pick up Spanish but also have a good time ? My plan is to take spanish classes for two months, and then travel around for a month.

I thought of going through exchange programs offered at my college but since ill be doing an off campus term when i go back, im thinking of just taking spanish classes at a local language institute or something. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Medellin Colombia.
Take spanish classes at EAFIT university. Plus you get easy access to a place where you can meet some of the hottest women of Medellin.

If you have money and game I would recommend Colombia or the DR.

Lots of great stuff on the forum here about Dominican Republic. I think it is a must go to spot.

Swish,

I am also currently in the military, so I might be able to relate to what you'd like to get out of your travel. I've lived in Lima, Peru for the last five months as part of a military language program, and I would highly suggest you visit this country. There's no doubt that Colombia and Brazil have beautiful women, but anyone who tells you there aren't a surplus of amazing latina girls (INCREDIBLE ASS, very feminine, sensual girls) in Peru, especially Lima, is mistaken. The hot girls here are just as hot as anywhere else in South America. Speaking Spanish at a moderate level isn't necessary, but if you want an upper level (7/8+) girl it will highly benefit you. Also, one night stands are less common here than in the US, so be prepared to but in a couple of dates. I just got out of a great LTR (3 months) with a girl down here after notching a couple before her. I might have just gotten lucky, but honestly she was everything I could have asked for - didn't bother me too much during the week, great sex, wouldn't be seen without high heels and long hair, and wasn't needy. If you have any questions about Lima feel free to get in contact. Good luck.

i am in colombia now, and giong back to brazil. yes i like colombia, the girls very nice, but you have to speak some spanish and understand culture. colombians are very polite. also colombia is very spread out, in terms of 3 cities. bogota, medellin, cali. bogota i didnt really like as the hostels area is no good. cali is good, but not sure what you gonna do here, as i am not sure what jobs are here, its a small city.

Lima is good, girls very friendly, i wish i spent more time there, but the quality for the AVERAGE girl is low, compared to colombia. yes, there are hot ones, but relatively few compared to colombia. if you looking for a nice girl, i would say go to colombia, preferably medellin if you are going for short/med vacation.

the bad thing and this is really important, is that there is a fog most part of the year, so no sunny like in california. so you might not be happy if the weather is like that all the time...

I can recommend Colombia. Earlier this year, I did basically what you are planning on doing; studied Spanish in Bogota for two months then travelled around Colombia for a month. I liked it there so much that I went back again in August for a month and will definitely return there in the future.

I haven't been to any other country in Latin America but Colombia had it all for me: nice culture, reasonable prices, great weather, very well spoken Spanish and of course, very attractive women.

God damned them all, I was told we'd cruise the seas for American gold, we'd fire no guns-shed no tears, now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier, the last of Barrett's privateers!

Bogota is no Medellin weather wise, but it's not a raging inferno like Cartegena. Yes, it does have a gloomy rainy season but it also has a great warm season, right now Dec-Jan...I don't find it that bad... it's perfect.... sunny with highs in the upper 60's and lower 70's.....besides the weather issue.... its a city with a great pulse, varied and endless nightlife....and with 9 million people....TONS of ridiculously hot chicks!!!! I can't say enough good things about this city.....and it's not over run with gringos/slash sex tourist......I hope more people stay away....bonus for me...

Mars I know Bogota has some fine women. But the logistics just seemed like a bitch. Banging quality women in Medellin and Cali regularly, just seemed easier.

Just takes a minute or two to get the lay of the land....plenty of places to stay in the middle of the action.....it's a massive city and that throws a lot people off...but believe me in my 5 months here, I cant imagine living anywhere else in Colombia, as from what I have heard Medellin and Cali are great places (consensus is better looking women than Rolas) but these cities would be to small and boring for me long term.....I like big cities.......looking forward to my upcoming travels throughout Colombia....to get a first hand experience to compare and contrast these cities/towns....

Tully, I can fly to Bogota direct from here so chances are I'll be there sooner than later. I like a rainy/cloudy place anyway.

I'm hoping someone with my skin tone (light skinned) will do well there.

Seems like the race and skin tone joke/issue will never go away, it's like a bad tattoo.....hahahaha.....

you will dig Bogota Mech.......cool city with a lot of action. Honestly, the altitude of Bogota has given me more problems than the weather and of course my light skin tone!!!

Tully, I'm looking at hitting up Colombia in May. Will you still be around? And yeah, the skin tone joke is a dead horse.

RE: Latin America for three months...thoughts?
i also like big cities, thats why i prefer cities like sao paulo and weather is better in sao paulo... i think probably i stayed in the wrong area, where the hostels are, near plaza de bolivar... the area was kind of creepy. Someone told me to stay in the residential north, but there are no hostels there, so think i am gona rent an apartment. Yes, did find alot of beautiful women in bogota, also in terms of population its bigger, so you see many more people walking on the streets than Cali, where there are much fewer people and i felt abit bored other than salsa. Didnt go to medeliin though, everyone has said good things about it.

I absolutely loved Colombia. I also read that there are only like 3000 asians in Colombia and Venezuela. So you might just have sky high exotic value in those places.

Yes, if an Asian friend of mine were to ask me where to go in Latin America, I would have to say Colombia. There the term you look "chinito" is affectionate and warm. In Ecuador and Peru, for example, it is derogatory. I can see an Asian man with class, game and style doing pretty well in Colombia. I coudnt say that about most other Latin countries.

haha i am chinese, and they also laughed when i said i was chinito.. hahahah

DIDnt know its degratory in peru!

people were smilling anyway, why you think its degratory chochemonger.

whats wrong with chinese in Peru? i got many peruvians wanting to take photos with me. As far as i saw, the girls were quite welcoming. especially in lima, (dont go outside lima, especially dont go to cusco, its like only if you wana go after backpackers)... Peruvians are abit shy though, but they are definitly friendly, and they were very curious about me, they are not that into gringos, but asians they like because they are so much look like asians anyway. they remind me of people from poor villages in western china, hahahahahahha, there is definitly an exotic factor in peru too.

I was just thinking of banging, more than just having friends. In that sense, I would still advise an Asian man to go to Colombia more than Peru. If anyone has different experiences, just let me know.
