Just out of curiosity... if you had herpes or molluscum or some other skin disease that could pass through skin-to-skin contact, you think you'd be good, if you left ya draws on, just stick ya dick through the hole and wrap it up with a condom?

Cotton boxers or boxer briefs would be between the skin-to-skin contact, therefore no skin-to-skin contact in this scenario.

I know it seems like a random question... just something I was thinking about.

Some notes regarding to some posts above:

1. I strongly recommend against taking Valtrex regularly without doctor advice (the only thing which is worse is to take a couple of tablets during outbreak and skip the rest when you feel better). It is a prescription drug for a good reason. The last thing you want is to have your HSV developing resistance to acyclovir. Life will be MUCH worse.

2. HSV is retrovirus, so it is not possible to get rid of it once you got infected. You can have no outbreaks if your immune system is good, and you can limit them, but the virus is there.

3. You can get (or give) herpes from/by unprotected oral sex. Most cold sores on lips are caused by HSV 1, and you may get genital herpes from it. Look on her lips/tongue before sticking it raw.

True story

I was dating this chick that was a model/actress..No lie this chick looked like Rosalyn Sanchez the actress. Anyways, we're both coming back from a dc lounge and we're heading back to my place. dont forget if you have a cold sore, its HERPES! yay!!!!! Also I think the #'s are hugely underrated, think about the fact that 90% of people dont even know who have it. Those are only the ones who are getting tested. I used to get tested every 6 months or so..... I think the reality is if you are successful with women, even if you are obsessive about using a condom you WILL get an STD eventually.

Thats the only good reason for monogamy I can think of.

Futher, the Stats stated on commercials paid for by big pharma and their literature reported by institutions whose research they fund claim that it can reduce the risk greatly for one using VALTREX. However Dr.GP, not Doc Earring, added that the TNT-total needed to treat, to prevent infection in one couple where one person is 'infected' and t'other is seronegative...well it's a lot higher than Big Valtrex would have you believe because geuss what dude? They have profit at stake and WANT you to buy some drugs that until this year were under patent protection in the US so there was no generic...

And the whole viral shedding, is a fucking theory. The theory has shown strong evidence in people who are recently infected and in turn highly contagious...but VALTREX doesn't fund research on people who've been infected for a long term, developed strong antibodies and in turn are not highly contagious...know why? bad press.

Do you, for certain, as in been tested with blood samples know, that you don't have HSV-2? Cause they don't screen for that at the clinic unless you request it because of the stigma...since the stigma is so strong people fucking off themselves over one of the most common, if not the most common, infections known to human kind.

In reality, Valtrex probably inhibits the body's own natural tendencies to fight the infection....not saying don't take it.

And condoms will go a long way for you in preventing an infection if you do not have it.

Shedding theory came about because people got infected by a partner, who was 'unaware'...so someone shows up to the clinic, says I just got this sore, my bf/gf doesn't have it, what's up Doc? I've never had a single girl tell me she had an STD, but the odds that every girl I've ever had sex with was unaware approaches 0%. I wouldn't be surprised if people with even HIV are hiding their status.

The thing about herpes:

It's gross, but it's not dangerous. It cannot harm anyone. Nothing happens to HPV infected people. It's basically the common cold of STD's and honestly I would never tell a girl if I had it unless I thought it would be long-term relationship.

Do you have any links to recent cases which didn't involve HIV?

I only read about two cases when a guy was prosecuted for transmitting STD to a girl. Both involved HIV, and the first one also involved rape, so they are not quite relevant. Also both happened in Russia where it is a crime to knowingly pass HVI (but not other STDs), so it may be different in other countries.

I think it is very considerate of you to have told your past gf of your herpes. I;m sorry it didn't work out. That said, I do think it continues to be important that you tell your future partners about it as it can be transmitted even with condom protection. Although harmful to men, herpes is twice as harmful to women. Women with herpes require c-sections during childbirth because exposure to a herpes for a new born baby can cause herpes in the eyes (which can cause blindness) and in the face, as well as encephalitis, and more serious complications to the babies organs. For a woman , this is a serious decisions that has to be made to be with a partner sexually with herpes. This is why choosing sexual partners and unbridled sexual contact with people you don't know is irresponsible.

You deserve to meet someone new but I hope you go about it responsibly. However, I do recommend you look for a partner that also has or is infected with the herpes virus . This may not be hard to find, as terrible as that may sound. You may want to look for support groups. you can join. I hope this isn't a terrible suggestion. Just be up front and make sure to build a good communication and friendship with someone before you open up.

I personally know a couple who, the husband, during one of their breakups, slept with someone else, got herpes, and the woman still got back with him and married him. I believe she got herpes from him because they had a child and she had a c section.

I can recommend this book about the psychological aspects of skin diseases, by a Harvard psychologist (Grossbart): Skin Deep. I have eczema myself, used to have mouth herpes and acne. Im working on managing it though, and this book is an important part of that.
