Pound for pound, Bleu de Chanel is probably the greatest men's frag ever. It's such an all-around great scent and crowd pleaser. Performance isn't bad, either.

Bleu and Nautica Voyage are my most complimented. I have Creed and have gotten mixed reactions on it.

For the players on a tight budget, you can get these oils on Amazon which smell extremely close to the originals and last all damn day. I have the Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and Creed impressions. I get compliments all day. I compared the oil to the real Tom Ford and couldn't tell the difference.

Bond no.9 colognes have many clones and smell similar to others. I even see it now in TK Maxx

No way bro. I guess there will always be replicas of anything...

But, seriously Bond No 9 is not a common line of fragrance. To me it's very unique and I'm big on cologne. Go to a Saks Fifth Avenue or Bergdorf Goodman and get some samples.

Niche fragrances are nothing special nowadays. Designer ones have caught up and even surpassed many in terms of scent, projection, sillage etc. Nothing wrong with going mainstream.

I'll be sure to check out Bond no. 9, but looking at fragrantica it's got mixed reviews.

Dolce & Gabbana The One eau de parfum (make sure to get EDP version). This is my go-to date cologne. No other cologne has gotten me as much compliments and positive responses from women. And its not outrageously expensive.

One thing this thread makes me wonder is - should one keep to a single fragrance and make it a trademark smell, or have multiple for different climates and occasions?

All of the above are pretty versatile, unlike heavier, woodier fragrances (can't see them working on a hot summer day), so they can be worn year round and in all occasions.

I love knowing that my smell is imprinted on girls and everytime they smell that corny A&F they think of me.

The thing is once a cologne builds momentum it will be cloned. Imitation is the best form of flattery. New Haarlem sounds like 10 others colognes But I respect anyone that has keen interest in fragrances.

Depends if your signature smell fits into the all-purpose, all season, all conquering category. Colognes that edge towards spicy / oud / leather ones - on a hot summers day will react and smell like a baby's nappy wrapped in indian food.

Skip the reviews and ask for samples. Trust me. It will drive hoes crazy when they can't guess what you have on because it's not common and is out of this world.

On the subject of scotch scents, one steady GF of mine would get really triggered by the smell of peaty scotches like Lagavulin, especially when she was on her period, to the point where she would leave the room when I'm drinking with my buddies on poker night. Now that's a great scent!


I think scents are a very personal thing, it's partly your personality, and partly your (literal) taste, as in what smells you like.

I like citrus-based scents: Armani eau de toilette (bergamot citrus), Miyake, Dior Eau Sauvage, Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte. Most of these are fresh and classic scents that have been around for ages. They feel like a drive with the top down on a balmy California or Riviera evening. Creed is also an old school brand (much more so than say, Armani) but it became trendy through savvy marketing. They used to be anything but trendy, and not that expensive.

Most of the time though I splash a cologne made by a small local French perfumery, it's great and pretty cheap, simple but neat. I buy it in large format (at least 200ml) and it lasts a couple of years because I use it sparingly (light splash after shaving or a quick spray before going out).

You shouldn't be able to broadcast your smell from across the room, your scent adds another layer to your persona once you bring your woman into your personal space. It's almost more of a tactile experience than a nasal one.

Despite it's popularity (still smelling it several times a day when I'm out and about), I ended up caving and buying Dior Eau Sauvage. It grew on me a lot over time, and I like how masculine it is (it's also a refreshing change from the more delicate Dior Homme that I've been using a long time).

La Nuit is the best imo, or was. It changed drastically after 2013, I think. The first two bottles were amazing, huge sillage and longevity, like a wall hitting you, always comments from girls, with just three sprays, but the last two -- 2016 -- lasted for maybe an hour and had skin projection. I went through one 2016 bottle in like two months because I kept spraying it so much and it would still just vanish after an hour.

From what I understand, this is due to the EU banning oak moss, which gave woody fragrances their sillage/longevity.

I pretty much stopped buying cologne after that, since I'm a fan of the woody scents.

(Have they come up with a suitable alternative to oak moss lately?)

Also has anyone tried F Ferragamo Black? I've been meaning to pick up a bottle as I've heard it's like La Nuit.
