I'm wondering if anyone else on the forum has experienced this. Getting a boner over a girl who doesn't typically deserve one. Lately for me this has been 28 year old girls (I'm 21) who are in average shape/average looks, when I feel like I could be pulling much better if I put in the work.

Yeah, I'm a lot older than 21. Even at 21 though, I could tell the differentiate between serious differences in quality. There's two issues here. One, should you bang a 4 or a 5 when there's nothing better on the horizon? Two, should take a definite bang with a 4 or 5 over a shot at something better?

Neither of these issues are worth fixating on. Any player that I've ever known has his fair share of nights that he'd just as soon forget. It comes with the territory.

If we're talking about average girls, I don't see what the problem is. As long as you can do it without other people knowing. Don't spend time with them. Don't be seen in public with them. Only sex. Maybe it's just me but the boner test doesn't work for me.

I rarely get a boner upon meeting a new girl.

It takes a makeout or heavy grinding on the dancefloor and even then it doesn't always happen. If I've been drinking, it doesn't happen either.

Fortunately I have eyes so I can judge an attractive girl that way but it's rarely my dick telling me to bang her. Maybe a twinge here and there but not a boner.
