I really wanted to do this. I know it was just drunken recklessness but I felt I needed to do it!

If you haven't heard what goes on heres a video.

Exactly the type of irritating yahoos I despised in Thailand. Slides look fun though.

I don't think I can stand in the middle of that without resisting the urge to sock someone in the face.

RE: Its official no more crazy tubing in Vang Vieng Laos
Good riddance. I passed through Vang Vieng earlier this year and lasted about 18 hours there. A beautiful area of Laos turned into the quintessential backpacker shithole, replete with drunken/high, shirtless Brit and Auzzie dudes and overweight girls in bikinis. The worst bunch of foreigners I've ever met in any place ever (and that includes the sexpats of Thailand!) The trip down the river via tube, kayak or otherwise is visually stunning; the riverside "bars" with their Mad Max-esque structures, incredibly dangerous slides, rope swings etc. and aforementioned clientele won't be missed.

I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?

I can't believe I stayed there for 10 full days. Without getting laid btw. If you are an extremely extrovert yahoo-ing and wooh-ing person then this is the place for you. I'm not that guy.

Vang Viang is one of those things that you did when you were younger and look back now thinking how stupid it was. You had a blast then though.

You're out there, eating all kinds of drugs, swimming in filth, miles away from the nearest third-world hospital. It's not a good idea.

Too bad it's over.

Aloha!

Most likely through an organized tour. Nowadays you can plan your own trip to the farthest wilderness of the world, and the first thing you see upon arrival would be three buses full of fucking tourists.

Always google whether there are tours to your destination and which days they're there.

The one thing I will never get is why yahoos like these fly halfway across the world to spend a week drugged and drunk. Cant they do that at home?

Why are these buffed and tatted up dudes crying ?

It just shows how muscle and tats are used as confidence hiders. Tats totally lost their value as things to do if you're a bad ass.
Value was already lost 20 years ago when tats became more or less mainstream but now with the current mamaboy hipsters it's so obvious it hurts.

Most of my friends are all tatted up and though looking but are beta's and scared of their gf's. (no hipster friends let that be sure)

I was there for 3 days last year.

I had an absolutely fucking blast! The slides, river-side bars, mud volleyball and hurling yourself off ziplines into the mekong delta were all amazing.

Damn shame if you ask me.

That's definitely not the Mekong.

I had a great time there last year, too. I was riding a motorbike through Southeast Asia and the typical tourist hedonism (the sluttiest white girls to ever walk this planet) was very welcome after a couple days of riding through the Laos countryside.

???

I've never been but it looks almost impossible not to get laid there: drink, drugs, women mud wrestling in bikinis! How did you not get laid?

Looking at it sober from 5000 miles away it looks like my idea of hell being surrounded by all those cunts but if I was there and off my face on mushrooms it would probably be a blast. Aussie birds though! You poor fucks who have to live in Australia.

My experience was very similar to Neil's, I spent about a week in Vang Vieng, although I only did tubing on the river one day. When I was there, there were actually a decent amount of hot chicks, Aussies, Israelis, Swedes, etc. The thing is it's like MTV spring break meets Apoclypse Now on this random river in the middle of Laos.

Overall it was a lot of fun, getting drunk, tubing, going down the makeshift waterslides, etc. But the crowd there is pretty obnoxious, drunk 18-24 year olds, lots' of your typical loud mouth Aussie and Brits. If you're a really wild, extroverted partier you could have success with the women.

I'm more of a mellow low key chiller type, so I wasn't exactly feeling the crowd, and the peer pressure to keep getting drunker, and people trying to write on you with markers is also whack.

I don't know if anyone got a chance to check out the nature around Vang Vieng, but it's world class, amazing scenery, I'd easily go back just got the eco-tourism. I regret not doing more, but was lucky enough to spend a day mountain biking 3-4 miles out of town to the blue lagoon and some of the surrounding caves. The blue lagoon was cool and the cave in the mountains above it was probably one of the sickest I've ever seen.

I rode Thailand on a Honda XR250 and at that time Laos and Vietnam were no go zones for bikes with foreign plates. I really want to ride Laos, the terrain of that whole area of Thailand, Laos and China is unreal beauty.

This! The people there were very annoyingly drunk 24/7. Most girls were ugly/fat and of course this is a place for loud aussies, just like Bali.

I would probably not get laid at a full moon party in Thailand either since i'm very wearry of extroverted behaviour but would like to see the Aussie yahoo's picking up local girls around the world.

I got the bike in Hanoi for 150 USD, it was the typical Chinese made 150cc scooter. It had Vietnam plates and I didn't have any trouble crossing into Laos, Cambodia and Thailand. China would be a challenge, though, foreigners aren't allowed to drive.

Riding through the mountains was amazing in Laos and north Vietnam. Even on the shitty scooter I was had it was some of the coolest riding I've done. South of Vang Vieng the terrain mellowed out and made for some long days in the saddle. I wish I had been able to get my hands on an XR250 for that trip but they just don't exist in 'nam.
