Here Ya Go -- Celebrating the Beta-ness of Obama
Warning. Do not have any liquid in your mouth when you read this.

Critic’s Notebook: Obama photo is a snapshot of a modern, equal marriage

Quote:...the photograph has a remarkable and specific latent message, too. Unlike many images of political marriage in which the man lays claim to his wife through a symbolically possessive gesture — touching her shoulder, raising her hand up or kissing — the embrace between these two people seems mutual. The first lady is, among many other things, a big woman, famed for her well-toned arms, and in this image of hugging, she’s giving as good as she gets.

The president, if anything, seems to need this hug and appears almost dependent and vulnerable. The obligatory masculine markers of leadership — resolve, self-sufficiency and emotional equanimity — dissolve into the obliterating communion of two people lost in their own love world.

...The photograph strongly suggests an ideal of mutuality in marriage, unencumbered by older ideas of possession and obedience that still hold sway in some deeply traditionalist religions.

Best comment:

Quote:With Tom Shales gone, the Post needs SOMEONE to lead the congregation in worshipful adoration of Our Dear Leader. Thank God (or Mother Gaia, if you're so inclined) for Philip Kennicott - what would we do without him?

I've seen dogs who loved their masters less than this.

Was sure that this was going to be the video of Obama crying when thanking his campaign volunteers before entering this thread.

As for the picture, meh, it's a hug. Yes, the text is stupid, but is this really thread worthy?

Yep, because the sentiment expressed plays right into the de-masculinization and feminization of the society that many find appealing. It would be another hamster-driven reason to support this guy.

The only thing beta is some people's obsession with Obama. You think its alpha to be that envious of a person? You think the "beta" Obama gives a fuck what you think?

Of course he doesn't give a fuck what I think because what I think is, in so many ways, the antithesis of what HE thinks.

But he absolutely does give a fuck about what opinion-makes like Philip Kennicott think, because it gives him a leg up. And above you can read what Kennicott thinks. And this is what vast swaths of those who find Obama so wonderful think.

And this is how those people think about man-woman relationships.

And this way of thinking is completely contrary to what, presumably, most posters on here think.

And that the head of our nation is perceived of in this way is,to me, quite quite significant.

Quote:Aside from breaking tradition by including wife Ann in his Massachusetts gubernatorial portrait, Romney insisted on incorporating the caduceus, which is associated with medicine. Michael Daly talks to the artist about Romney’s proud achievement.

Quote:This winged staff entwined with two serpents is the caduceus, and it was the only thing Romney explicitly asked to have included other than his wife.

The guy kicked ass and beat the Billion dollar Republican machine with his organization, motivated volunteers and ground game.

And these guys are calling him Beta. He made the GOP, and every dead end Conservative from Donald Trump to Limbaugh eat dirt. Loser beta Trump had a complete break down on twitter.

Suck on that, and think about who the beta is here.
