Banana Republic
Republicans are really big on exporting democracy to the Middle East.

Yet, they are all for suppressing democracy and disenfranchising voters at home.

Why do people actually support these thugs? Incredible.

Florida Early Voting Fiasco: Voters Wait For Hours At Polls As Rick Scott Refuses To Budge

Quote:Once again, Florida and its problems at the polls are at the center of an election.

Early voting is supposed to make it easier for people to carry out their constitutional right. Tuesdays are notoriously inconvenient to take off work, so many states have given voters the option of turning out on weekends or other weekdays in the run-up to Election Day.

But in Florida this year, it has been a nightmare for voters, who have faced record wait times, long lines in the sun and a Republican governor, Rick Scott, who has refused to budge and extend early voting hours.

RE: Banana Republic
Vote early, vote often, isn't that the Chicago way?

Not exactly sure what the issue is, it's not even election day. If this were election day you might have something.

Is anything preventing these people from voting on the actual election day? Is anything preventing people from obtaining an absentee ballot in the case they won't be present on election day?

But please keep complaining about the grand conspiracy theory that Republicans are trying to dis-enfranchise voters by closing on-time for early voting and heaven forbid, making people show I.D. to prove they are who they say they are when casting a ballot.

I can't understand how requiring someone to show a form of identification when voting can be spun in to a racist ploy to disenfranchise minorities. There were fucking counties where more people voted than there were residents registered to vote in the county in the last election. The Republicans probably have their own way of committing electoral fraud, but they're much more imaginative than the Democrats who are raising people from the dead to vote for our dear and glorious leader, premier Obama.

For starters, in most places, they don't bother counting absentee ballots unless the race is tied and there are enough absentee ballots to make the difference. That's a costly and tedious process.

Not all employers give their employees time off from work to vote.

The places that have made the biggest push to stop early voting are swing states with a lot of Republican politicians and large numbers of Democrat voters, and minority populations.

The move for early voting happened largely as a result of Republican bullshit in places like Ohio and Florida during the '04 elections. I'm talking about bullshit like giving out 30 voting machines in white republican districts, and only giving 2 or 3 machines to a district comprised of mostly minorities who tend to vote Democrat. And yes, that shit happened.

And there were only about 80 dead people who voted in the 2008 election out over 100 million living voters. Those numbers aren't significant enough to justify the games the Republicans have decided to play.

I agree about absentee ballots, but since they are predominately from military (which leans Republican), it would counter your arguement.

Also agree about most businesses not letting people go vote, which is a shame, but not sure how that is biased towards one side or the other. But let's be real, people often use that as an excuse when they simply forget to do it, because they had more important things to do like: watch T.V., get their nails done, go to a happy hour, etc.

What law says that early voting must happen? It's election day, not election month or week. If anything, any early voting is doing the exact opposite of what you are saying and maximizing voter turn-out.

I'm sure the Democrats politicians in swing states, where they are in charge, would never, ever do anything like that.

I get it, I'm absolutely sure that games are being played, but to think that only one side is doing it is: naive at best.

Surely it's common knowledge that the republIcans fix votes and elections ? Around the world we know all about George Dubya getting the Florida vote fixed, it's why people laugh so much when Americans talk about democracy.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.... I thought this was going to about the brand!

I live in Europe. Of COURSE you show ID. It's the most reasonable requirement in the world. If you're too slobby to know where you last misplaced it, voting is the least of your concerns.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

RE: Banana Republic
If you're so sanctimonious about voter fraud, why aren't you throwing a major fit over the fact that most hispanic immigrants are descendants of illegals, that Democrats are recruiting illegals to vote, and the whole US electorate would be an order of magnitude to the right if it wasn't for that sly and vile undermining of the rule of law by Democrats and civil rights activists? Romney is going to win the white vote at margins not seen since Reagan who won massive landslides, yet he probably won't win because of 20 years of active colonization agenda. Hmm...

In other words, what you are trying to say is that only white people should be allowed to vote in the US election.

The same thing has been happening the other way around. I work with touchscreen technology and it is probably a poorly configured touchscreen.

Another reason not to trust electronic voting.

I early voted and it was my first time voting. I was actually surprised that no ID was required, all I needed to do was give my name, address, and DOB.

As for the store, it's generally overpriced, but can have nice stuff. Wait for sales. Big Grin

He's actually just rehashing a growing and very serious political concern for those on the right, one outlined very clearly by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (South Carolina) back in August:

Quote:“The demographics race we’re losing badly,” said Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (S.C.). “We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.”

Did these guys have visas to come to the US or were they "illegal immigrants"?

RE: Banana Republic
More to the point of a banana republic election, why is the SOS of each state overseeing the state a partisan politician? This is how elections are conducted in Canada.

Quote:Elections Canada is an independent, non-partisan agency that reports directly to Parliament. We must be prepared at all times to conduct a federal general election, by-election or referendum, administer the political financing provisions of the Canada Elections Act, monitor compliance and enforce electoral legislation.
