I think this is a good point. Men have practiced seduction since ancient times, and of course powerful men have always forced or coerced sex from the women who are under their power.

However, I agree with the distinction of recognizing the start of modern game, with the scientific understanding of the psychology and biology behind sexual arousal and attraction in women.

Mystery was certainly a pioneer in this field, but there were some other early ones like Pook, whose writings were eventually collected in the book of Pook.

Another key factor is the rise of the seduction community. You had various writings going back to Ovid, and certainly even the cavemen sat around the fire and talked about it. However, it took the rise of the internet before seduction theorists were able to share and test the best ideas and build up the modern theories of game.

I would make another important distinction. There have always been men who could get a lot of pussy, and even if they were naturals, they probably gave some thought as to what works and what doesn't. They also probably tried to tell their friends how to get laid.

However, the naturals from the olden times would probably say that no man can really understand women. Freud came up with his theories of psychology, but supposedly he admitted his theories only work with men, and he couldn't figure out what was going on in women's heads.

In comparison, I think the modern game/red pill/manosphere community has truly figured women out. We understand why they act the way they do. We now know what it takes to succeed with women, and know where the failure points are if we're not doing as well. It may not be easy to achieve some of the fitness or social skill levels needed to pull hot chicks, but we know what we need to do and know it's on us to do it. In comparison, men of earlier ages were operating in the dark. I know I was certainly operating in the dark as a young man.

Eric Weber in the 70s popularized the idea. R. Don Steele came a little later, then Ross Jefferies who was probably the first coach. Then Mystery and Style, and they launched (inadvertantly) RSD and a thousand immitators. I'm leaving a few out, there were folks before Mystery, but those are the key ones. Some of this is discussed in the The Game. I forget what they call them, but in the early days of the internet there was something like a forum (alt.something) that was hugely influential. People used to hypothesize ideas and actually field test them.
