So my trip to the Philippines finally got approved. I will be in Davao for roughly 26 days. What would be your day-to-day outfit in a place like Davao?

I'm thinking I will take the following:

dark jeans
khakis
solid t-shirts
button down shirt?
athletic shoes
desert boots
dress lace up shoes?
swim trunks
socks
boxer briefs

Do I need to take any cool weather clothes like a sweater? I've traveled light before and ended up looking like a backpacker bum. I don't want to repeat that. But if I could away with not taking an oversized suitcase, I would.

Also, would you take your laptop to the Phils? I have a Samsung Galaxy cell here in Korea. Should I take it and switch out the sim card or will a phone like that attract unwanted attention?

During the day v neck tight shirts with jeans. At night long sleeve with nice pants and shoes.

Well its pretty safe here, but pickpockets are popular. Although not as much in Davao as Cebu and Manila. Condoms are a big thing. Yeah I would take your laptop. Bring your phone just don't take it when you go out and get drunk. That's where you will usually get pick pocketed. When will you be here? I think I will stay in Davao for 2 more weeks, but then I'm going to thailand. Send me a PM if you will be here when I am and we can meet up for some drinks.

I have had a lot of success with form fitting shirts. Also it's very hot, don't worry about cool gear except for maybe if you go on some air conditioned bus rides. Dress in clothing that will keep you cool. Davao is a city so wearing nice clothing is very practical as well.

A travelling friend told me the situation there already changed compared to last year. Girls want money, more young westerners arrive, lot of companies are opening call centers and stuff like that.

It must be an amazing place right now, I guess it cant get too bad within 12 months but still I'm a bit worried...

That's an article focused on trying to sign you up with some investment fund, so I wouldn't trust it for anything. Also it only talks about money; if your concern is about how much pussy the money could buy, then the whole world is indeed a downward spiral.
